\nHet was 1970. Benny Binion, eigenaar van casino \"The Horseshoe\" nodigde een zestal pokerspelers uit. De zes uitgenodigde spelers speelden een aantal dagen een cashgame. Verschillende pokervarianten kwamen aan bod: Razz, 5-card stud, 2-7 lowball draw en natuurlijk ook Hold'em. De cashgames hadden een vaste start- en stoptijd en na alle diciplines werd de winnaar bepaald. Johnny Moss werd gekroond tot kampioen van het event, dat we vandaag de dag kennen als de World Series Of Poker.\"WSOP-Bracelet\"\n<\/p>

\nVanaf 1971 werd het WSOP-event gespeeld in een freeze-out toernooi format. Hierdoor werd er dan ook al snel gekozen voor een 'open' inschrijving. Gestaag maar langzaam groeide de WSOP uit tot een toernooi van formaat. Waar in 1982 nog slechts 52 deelnemers waren, waren er 5 jaar later al 2100 Pokerfanaten van de partij. Afgelopen jaren waren er meer dan 20000 deelnemers aanwezig om mee te dingen naar een bracelet.\n<\/p>

\nWSOP 2009<\/span>\n<\/div>

\nDit jaar zal de 40e verjaardag worden gevierd van het WSOP. Een indrukwekkend schema van 57 events is het gevolg. Zowat alle pokervarianten zullen worden gespeeld, en met buy-ins tussen de $500 en $50000 is er voor iedereen wat wils. Het Main Event dat 3 juli van start gaat springt het meeste in het oog. Inmiddels is het al een 12 daags event, waarvan de finaletafel pas in november zal plaatsvinden. Verder springt het Billion event in het oog. Een event waaraan alleen braceletwinnaars mogen meedoen. Ook het jaarlijks terugkerende Ladies Event staat wederom op de kalender.\n<\/p>

\nHet blijft natuurlijk lastig om in het grootste pokertoernooi van de wereld favorieten aan te wijzen. Zal Phil Ivey een bracelet pakken?
