Doyle Brunson nie jest po prostu jedną z legend. To człowiek, który dla pokera jest tym, kim był Tony Montana dla handlu yeyo w Miami. Niewiele jednak brakowało, by zamiast żetonów ze stołu zbierał z tablic koszykarskie piłki. Gdyby nie kontuzja, której skutki odczuwa do dziś, być może Elgin Baylor w Minneapolis Lakers brylowałby jedynie w podawaniu ręczników i wiązaniu sznurowadeł.<\/p>

The Gambler - trudne początki<\/strong><\/span><\/p>

\"\"Definitywny rozbrat z koszykówką spowodował konieczność poszukiwania nowej pasji i rywalizacji, której Doyle wciąż był głodny. Po ukończeniu college'u znalazł się przy pokerowym stole, przy którym w owych czasach było mniej bezpiecznie niż dziś chroniąc się przed mżawką pod białym kapturem w północnym Harlemie.<\/p>

Razem z \"Sailorem\" Robertsem<\/strong> oraz okazjonalnie uczestniczącym w turniejach WSOP do dziś \"Amarillo Slim\" Prestonem<\/strong> stworzył Brunson gamblerską paczkę, która podróżowała po Teksasie w poszukiwaniu wielkich gier i wielkich pieniędzy. Znaleźli to, czego szukali, i wzięli to sobie. <\/p>

Mimo, iż w 1977 roku nie było jeszcze na świecie Sapheala, w Horseshoe zaczęło pachnieć magią, kiedy to w finałowej ręcę kolejnego Main Eventu Doyle był na flopie daleko z tyłu, dzierżąc... \"\"\"\" i parę dziesiątek przeciwko dwóm parom \"Bonesa\" Berlanda<\/strong>. Efekt był jednak identyczny, jak rok wcześniej - runner-runner full house i drugi tytuł mistrzowski no-limit Hold'em. Od tej pory przeciwnicy Doyle'a wolą na flopowym showdownie ujrzeć w jego ręce parę asów...<\/p>

The Legend - owacje na stojąco<\/strong><\/span><\/p>

\"\"Do dnia dzisiejszego Doyle Brunson zdobył dziesięć bransoletek WSOP<\/em><\/strong> (ostatnią w 2005 roku, w wieku 72 lat), jeden tytuł World Poker Tour, dziesiątki tysięcy fanów, miliony dolarów i szacunek o sile niezmierzalnej nawet wagą słów. <\/p>

To on napisał pokerową biblię - \"Super\/System\"<\/strong><\/em> - którą każdy szanujący się gracz musiał kiedyś potraktować jak muzułmanin pielgrzymkę do Mekki. Wniósł on nieoceniony wkład w popularyzację pokera i swoistej etyki gracza, dzięki której współcześnie ową grę nazwać można profesją.<\/p>

Dziś Doyle jest już dziadkiem, ale jego umysł potrafi pracować w tempie, jakiego większość jego równolatków nie potrafi sobie nawet przypomnieć. Jego pojawienie się na turniejach cyklu World Series traktowane jest jak papieska pielgrzymka i słusznie nagradzane zostaje burzą szczerych braw. <\/p>

I tak jak każdy z graczy pragnie tylko swojego sukcesu i potknięć rywali, tak wszyscy oni mają jednak nadzieję, że Doyle wytrwa jak najdłużej. A wyeliminowanie go musi być chyba najbardziej bolesnym z karcianych zwycięstw.<\/p>
