The blinds are the reason behind the action in Texas Hold‘em. Without blinds, each player could simply wait for AA and there would not be any motivation to play with weaker cards. It is the blinds that encourage you to invest money before the flop because they are the primary target of an open raise. Any open raise is, first of all, an attack on the money that is already in the pot, i.e. the blinds. An open raise from the cut off position or from later positions has come to be known as a blind steal.
