David Sklansky是美国著名的扑克玩家和理论家，他在《扑克理论》中提出扑克的基本原理(FToP)。以他的观点来看，这是扑克理论中最重要的陈述:<\/p>

\n每当一个玩家的打法与他知道对手牌时的打法不同，他的对手获利；每当一个玩家的打法与他知道对手牌时的打法相同，他自己就获利。
\n<\/i>\n<\/p>

\n由此产生的结果是一个玩家通过让对手犯错来获利。如果一个玩家知道对手的牌，那么至少存在一种正确的打法让期望收益最大化，即产生最大的收益或最小的损失。只要这个玩家一偏离这种打法，他就在扑克的基本原理上犯错，这将导致达不到最佳的期望收益。在扑克游戏中，可能获得的收益与损失是一样重要的。<\/b><\/p>
