Nicolas Cage acts as Amarillo Slim

The life of Thomas Austin Preston Jr., commonly known as Amarillo Slim is being filmed - by and with Nicolas Cage!

Cage will be playing the star role and will also be doing the production. You can look forward to a high-class movie.

The film is based on the biography of Amarillo Slim "Amarillo Slim in a World Full of Fat People" which was published in 2003. In his biography he reminds himself of being one of the best poker players of all times. He definitely is one of the most interesting poker personalities in the poker business.

As early as the sixties he was travelling around the land of boundless opportunities with Doyle Brunson and Sailor Roberts always looking for another game and new opponents.

In Las Vegas these three shared a joint bankroll. After six years the trio fell about though. When the joint bankroll was lost, they decided to follow different paths. Everyone was successful on their own. Slim could win the WSOP in 1972 in which only eight players took part. His companions could win the tournament in 1975, 1976 and 1977.

Slim did a lot for advertising poker in America. He played with famous people like Richard Nixon and Lyndon Johnson, appeared in countless TV-shows and helped poker to become popular and accepted among the broad public.

Among his strive for playing poker, Amarillo Slim is a passionate gambler. The quaintest wagers arose due to this like for example the golf match against Evel Knievel. However, not played with a golf club, but played with a hammer.

Nicolas Cage and Slim have already met and as officials say are enthusiastic of each other. They have made friends and apparently Slim is sure that his personality is demonstrated very well by Nicolas Cage. The movie is supposed to be in the cinemas by 2008, just in time for the 80th birthday of the poker legend.
