Thang Luu wins Event 6

Thang Luu won the $1,500 Omaha Hi/Lo Event. In the heads-up he defeated the Englishman Spencer Lawrence. He secured his first bracelet and a prize money of $243,356.

Luu started into the finale as chip leader. Lawrence was able to catch up on his way into the heads-up, and both opponents kicked off the finale of the last two with almost even chip counts.

Luu was able to rake in a big pot on the board of . Both players got really busy on the different streets. After Luu's river bet, Lawrence pondered for a long time - too long to call in fact. Luu thus won the pot without a showdown and took a 2:1 lead in chips.
Shortly afterwards, Luu won another monster pot with a nut flush, and Lawrence dropped under 600,000 chips compared to Luu's 2 million.

In the decisive hand Luu raised pre-flop and Lawrence called. The flop came with , Lawrence checked and Luu made a continuation bet. Lawrence raised, Luu re-raised and both players were all-in. Lawrence showed , Luu flipped over . The turn came with the , the river gave Luu the full house with the .

It was a deserved win for Luu. He especially made an impression on the bubble with his aggressive game and secured the chip lead on the second day. At the WSOP 2007, he finished second in the $2,000 Omaha Hi/Lo
Split Event, and was only barely beaten by Frankie O'Dell.
