Over $100,000 Raised From Harman's Charity Event
Jennifer Harman and a collection of pros and amateurs descended on the Grand Sierra Resort in Reno to raise money for the National Kidney Foundation. The $200 re-buy featured the lady herself, Andy Bloch and Howard Lederer. Over $110,000 was raised.
The Jennifer Harman lead Charity Event was eventually won by William Roberts. The event featured well-known Full Filt pros and a host of local players. In the end however, it was William Roberts, a local from Reno, who grabbed first place and a luxurious crystal trophy, valued at $5,000. He'll also be bought into the Reno World Poker Challenge. Other top finishers included Tom Galusha (2nd), Jim Fisher (3rd), Wei Jin (4th) and Armas Schwartz (5th).
Roberts was on hand after his victory: “It's always great to play poker for a good cause. I was just glad to be a part of it. Jennifer did a great job and everyone had a blast."
As well as raising money for a good cause, the event was seen as an opportunity for the high stakes cash games and tournaments to take a back seat as the pros enjoyed some pressure free (relatively speaking) poker. Tiffany Michelle, who attended the after show party said “We're going to be up all night and we're going to go crash some low limit, like $1/$2, poker."
In a press release distributed on Sunday, Harman expressed her elation at the fundraising effort: "This is the largest field of any charity event I've hosted. The outpouring of support exceeded any expectations. I can't thank the poker community enough for its generosity." Over 1000 rebuys were added during the proceedings in what was the largest event held at the Reno casino.
Jennifer Harman does not stop here though. On the 17th April she will head for the bright lights of Las Vegas for her annual Nevada Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals fundraiser.
