Jennifer Harman Raises $130,000 for RSPC Nevada
Over 120 players including Phil Ivey , Phil Hellmuth and people's favourite Daniel Negreanu turned out in support of the latest Jennifer Harman charity poker event this weekend.
With only 9 days to organise and advertise the event, the turnout was less than last year when the figure approached 230 and the amount raised touched $325,000. Nevertheless, there was still a glutton of stars and supporters out to raise money in the Jennifer Harman spearheaded event.
The appearance of the poker megastars Phil Ivey, Phil Hellmuth and Daniel Negreanu goes along way to highlight the clout of Harman and perhaps their love for animals, notably the later who donated thousands in the after game auction.
Also on hand were some celebrities from outside the poker world, most notably the voice of Bart Simpson. Nancy Cartwright who supplies the voice of everybody’s old favourite Simpsons character before Homer took the mantle in the mid-nineties was the mc for the night (whether she used her own or Bart’s voice is unknown).
The auction was where the real fun was and where Negreanu came to the floor, bidding over $28,000 for a date with poker player Lacey Jones.
Also up for auction was a dinner for 12 at chef Dakake’s Vegas’ restaurant with Jennifer Harman and baseball legend Pete Rose. Blackjack mastermind Andy Bloch outbid everybody else for this special evening with $10,000 being his outlay.
The end of the evening saw some hilarity when a tray of deserts leftover from the event was sold off. Negreanu and Layne Flack each purchased cakes for $200, while two-time World Series of Poker bracelet winner Jeff Madsen helped raise an additional $180 by bidding for four cakes.
“They stayed all the way until the end. They count on this event and this is a big chunk of money that they can do things with. Last year, they built a new wing. With the economy, people are abandoning their homes and leaving their animals.”
