Phil Ivey loses £7.7 million edge-sorting case

London High Court rules in favour of Crockfords but calls Ivey 'honest'.

Phil Ivey's battle to reclaim £7.7 million from Crockfords Casino in the High Court has just concluded in London. Judge Mr Justice Mitting ruled against the poker pro.

However the Judge did call Ivey a truthful witness. After the hearing Ivey commented:

"I am pleased that the judge acknowledged in court that I was a truthful witness. I believe that what we did was a legitimate strategy and we did nothing more than exploit Crockfords' failures to take proper steps to protect themselves against a player of my ability. Clearly today the judge did not agree."

Lawyers for Crockfords argued that the edge-sorting techniques 'defeated the essential premise of the game' and therefore there was no 'gaming contract'.
