I never played poker in a private club at all. In the Netherlands it's illigal to do it.
Only on school, but that was without money involved.

Yeah, I actually have, and it was one of those experiences that quietly resets your expectations. I joined a private club based in another country through a mutual poker contact, went in a bit skeptical, and ended up genuinely surprised by how smooth and social it felt. Different time zone, different playing style, even the table chat had a totally different vibe, players were more patient, pots developed slower, and the strategy leaned more exploitative than solver-heavy. What really stood out was how personal it felt compared to public apps; people remembered hands, joked about past sessions, and the games felt curated rather than random. It reminded me why private clubs became popular in the first place, it felt closer to a real home game, just online and international. Honestly, that experience is what later made me explore communities like Bluffing Monkeys, because when a club is run well, poker stops feeling transactional and starts feeling like a proper game again.
