Fwiw, I know of a gay guy who makes gay jokes himself and sometimes jokingly calls other people fags.

For the most part, not the jokes themselves make em offensive but the perspective you view it through does. And if noone gets hurt? Why get offended?

dude, the people may laugh on the outside when they get called a fag. but on the inside they might be hurting and you may not even know it. they may not even know it because they use laughter to mask their true feelings for so long, that it just becomes normal to them. of course i can take a light joke, or one placed in good humor...obviously. i would say i have a great sense of humour. i have a gay friend and my other friend used to call him and his bf the fags all the time. and theyd laugh about it until one day they told him they actually found it quite offensive. and he hasnt said it since. but yeah im all for the joking if you are a gay man making a gay joke about another gay man, or a black person making another joke about a black person. im not one bit uptight. i just respect others feelings and get to know them well before making any politically incorrect and downright disrespectful comments about someone.

i was bullied in grade 6 when i had to go to a new school. i know how it feels and i wouldnt want anyone to feel like i did back in that time of my life.

Thing is i am so far from being racist in any way that i don't care if my jokes can be interpreted as offensive. The american media are such champions of taking offense to anything and everything, to keep any kind of rational dialogue about religion or politics from happening.
Imo if you lighten up and totally ignore race, or even make fun of it, you're being much less racist than if you're going around preaching why we must have a shitload taboos in our society and even aknowledging that someone is black/whatever is offensive.

ANY prejudice comment is not ok in my books. prejudice means: Preconceived opinion not based on reason or experience.
