Hi guys, guess i'll start with a quick intro. My name is Andy and I live in the UK but i'm 21 now, not 18. ![]()
Started playing poker about 2 years ago when my friend introduced me to it. I immediately enjoyed it just playing on Facebook and small tourneys at my local casinos. Didn't take long to realise I was better than the average fish so as with all things I enjoy I began to work on becoming good at it. For the first year I wasn't taking it too seriously, just depositing small amounts at various sites and donking it off.
I was also studying Economics at uni so poker was never my priority.
My first real shot at online poker was starting NL2-NL10 over at ipoker but I found cash games less than ideal for me. Was too easy to tilt off money in those. After withdrawing from ipoker I took a good 8 months break from playing but about 2 months ago i decided to give poker another try. Having graduated from uni I really did not feel like getting a 9-5 job for the rest of my life. I guess I got the degree just as a backup of sorts but I've always been very entrepreneurial and never intended to work for other people. Guess i'm just another schmuck who wants to see if they can make a few $ from poker instead. ![]()
So in mid February I had $18 leftover in my Stars account and started playing $1 regular speed 45 mans. I chose the 45 mans as i really enjoy MTTs but the time commitment and variance of them is a problem for me, so the 45s are sort of perfect. After a month I was up to $500 and began to add some $3.50 regulars. As well as I was doing in these, I decided it was time to switch to the turbos cos that's where the money is. ![]()
Since switching to the turbos i've hit a sick downswing over my last 400 SNGs and had to drop back down to the $1 games with a $150 bankroll. Here's the lovely graph:

It's been pretty crushing and it seems I just expect to lose every all in I face now. However, even though I expect to lose it doesn't seem to tilt me or affect my play at all which is a big advantage to have. Given that half the donks at the 3.50s don't know the first thing about ICM or ranges i'm hoping I will start to see profit as I play more. Fingers crossed for an end to the downswing soon!
Today I just deposited $300 for the 50% reload bonus so I will move back up to the $3.50s and depending how the next few sessions go, I will have to decide whether I can continue to play or not. If it goes like usual i'll probably withdraw everything and apply for a staking deal of some sort with sngmentors or protege (are we allowed to mention those sites here?). Another option would be to move down or switch to the non turbos to rebuild.
Anyway, hopefully i'll find time to update this regularly and if any other 45 players want to make or invite me to a study group then that would be great. Cheers for reading! ♠_cool:
