i would like to record a short poker session for some1 to look at my play. Can u please suggest a good free video recording program for me? It would be good if it would be some simple, easy to use software which can produce compact sized, not too large video files.

Camtasia trial maybe? If you don't need to record a hud then pretty much anything will work.
try screenhunter 6.0 from wisdom. it is free and you can capture parts of your screen.

Have you tried EpicRewind? The version works great and has a mode to capture desktop games and videos. The rewind buffer allows you to choose to save a video of something after it's happened.
