Hey the master himself. Hope you keep visiting my blog and put some comments in it. I will put some things in this tread how I use the things I read in your book.

Turnplay makes no sense indeed. But I thought if villain c/c the flop what difference makes the turncard. Never heard of the delayed cbet.........stupid me!!! :megusta:

Today I did the same stupid play. But in this hand I prob have to raise villains donkbet and fold on a reraise. With calling the flop I really don't know where I stand and I think you must call the turn also. Hope I learn from my mistakes.......but the learning way is a hard way!!!

i wouldn't be sure. i prefer to call flop and fold turn mostly, flop plays usually mean a wider array of stuff :f_biggrin:

as it happened were you behind from the flop? or was just a draw :O

Yesterday some “important” things happened in (poker)life for me.

First thing is that I have set up a challenge for me. I want to reach and beat NL25 before the end of this year. I’ve builded my bankroll to $290 from the $50 I received from Pokerstrategy so I think (with Bulding a Bankroll) this goal is possible. Lots of study, hard work and making volume will get me to achieve it!!

Second thing was that I had little time to poker but I wanted to play some hands. What the hell I tought and started 1 table NL5FR Zoom just as experiment. I focused playing just one table the second hand I got TT (see above) but when I was playing and focussing on the game things were getting better and better. I played a hour and slowly was winning some money. After I closed the session I thought: Zoom is’t that bad, I think I like it…….I gonna play Zoom!!! The only restriction is that I only play one table at the beginning of every stake. If things are going to fast I make more and more stupid moves that cost me money. Playing one table like I play a normal table is the solution, I hope. A great advantage that Zoom has is that I can start when I want. I don’t have to wait or tableselect. Just hop in and play. And with 1 table Zoom I make the same volume as 4 tables regular.

Third thing was when I was done with poker I sat down in the garden with my wife. Took a Paulaner (German Weissbeer) and started to read in “Building a Bankroll” on my android-phone. My wife looked at me and said I was nuts that I was reading on that thing…….Me: Yes a tablet would be fine……She: Why don’t we buy it…….Me: Yeah right now……….She: Yes. So I ordered a tablet. Now I can play poker in the garden in the summer and read the ebook on a bigger screen. I really think it’s +EV!!! Special the reading part because if the weather is nice I always sit in the garden with a glass beer or wine. :f_cool:

When I went to bed yesterday I was very happy!!! Ready to put much effort in learning poker and climbing the limits as far as possible………..maybe one day I take my family on a holiday to a far a way country with money earned with poker!!! _love:

Startingroll challenge was $150. Every 5k hands or maybe 10k if volume increases I post a graph and/or stats to keep track and adjust my game. BRM stays moving up with 25BI and moving down with 20BI.

It will be a long and hard road.

Yesterday was a terrible day gone down 4BIs. A combination of bad play and bad beats happend to me. For the first time since I play poker I wouldnt mind BRM and play at a higher stake. This was the moment that I stopped the session...........

Some hands that I played.

Hand 1:

No reads on villain. Because the BB calls the 3bet I think I've enough odds too call his 3bet. Middle-pair on the flop and I decided to bet when both players check into me. Reason I think often Im ahead here and I want them to fold hands that can improve like Ax, Kx and Qx etc. Draws completes on turn so I check it out to go SD cheap.

Great blog will follow as im working my way through Verneers book too, I have read it it about 12 times so far :)
Did you win or lose this hand? what reads did you get from villian as you went to showdown? Although i see you only have 36 hands, was there any notes you had that swayed your decision? :)

Was he ultra aggro on the turn in previous hands ?

Would be easier to judge a hand if you gave stats on villains :)

In the session I played I tagged players according this chapter. Only thing to do is making notes. Question about this is if you make notes when you play or when you review in HM? Maybe someone can answer that.....

This chapter has helped my play more than any other, I tend to do both...some notes whilst playing and some when reviewing later in hem. I'm playing very low volume at nl50 at the moment playing only one table at a time so notes and reads are essential to help me find my edge.

I often play mss but even so Verneers book has been very helpfull.

I try to get as many reads as I can from all hands that go to showdown...even if im not playing in that hand, here is a good example, its free information that hopefully I can use later on :)

In this example the aggressor cbet small on the flop when missed...I then hope to see any other plays he makes and see if this confirms he always bets small when he misses...I like to have at least 3 reads to confirm this

On the river btn bets out with...... :f_biggrin:

This is how im starting to use reads, its not infallible but it seems to be working for me. Its amazing how much free onfo there is in one hand!!! :)

lol I started writing this and keep adding to it the more I think about it!!

The other reason i'm finding these kind of notes so helpfull is that its helping me to define ranges too as I keep track of hands thay call with etc...

Hope this helps and was not to basic for you, i'm just learning this myself too :f_biggrin:

Also I had better add that btn was a big fish so I try to factor this in when writing notes as the preflop aggressor may play differently against a rock, reg and shortstack etc...

First, all the hands where played on Zoom and I didnt have any reads on the players there. I find this a huge disadvantage that I dont develop reads on Zoom. On the "regular" tables you sit with a couple of guys and if you did 2 orbits then you should see if they play loose or tight preflop. And because its very important to develop reads I return to the regular tables. Learning poker is not make volume!!!

Roopopper you say you read the book 12 times!!! :f_eek: I'm still stuck with the solid preflop play. First want to understand one thing then move to another. Reads and notes are very difficult for me. Any help with this is welcome!!! Thanks for that!!!Will read your blog soon.

Yesterday I didnt play much spend 6 hours :f_eek: to get Google Play (not legal :P) on my tablet. When I fixed this my mindset was so f#cked up that it was wise I pick some beer and gonna rest in the garden. It would be my Z-game if I played. I hope to make a large session this evening.

I disagree w/ your thinking here.
obviously the SB stack is too small to give you implied odds to see the flop w/ your weak suited A.
and (to me) the BB cold calling the three bet should be more frightening than encouraging. what hands could he do that with where you would be a favorite?
sure, you're going to have position, and your call closes the pre-flop action, but you need a miracle flop to have a real chance of winning.
I think fold and wait for a better spot.

pre-flop - I think I would have either

b) 4B to ~$2 and folded to shove

I just hate playing 3B pots OOP, especially AKo

when villain donks then re-raises you, he is showing he is willing to play for stacks.
assuming that he is not an idiot, this means he can beat a pair.
on this board, his line looks a lot like a somewhat slowplayed sets.

take it from someone who excels at paying off sets:
you need to stop doing this, even if it means you get bluffed off your overpair now & then.
losing the ~$1.05 you have invested so far is much better than sending the rest of your stack off to keep it company.

on to other things:
I have read Verneer's book twice so far.
I think it is good at this stage that you don't go for volume until the basic concepts become second nature.
otherwise you will just make the same mistakes more often & faster.
try to work on just one (or two) things at a time until you are comfortable with them. when they become your new "normal" way to play and you no longer think about them (like trying to figure out what to do) THEN start with a new concept.

as silly as it sounds - start with hand selection, position and general preflop play.
this will help you on 100% of the hands you are dealt.
postflop play only matters when you see the flop, and 75% or more of the time, you won't!
so deal with all the pre-flop issues first.
this is VERY important because the two biggest pre-flop issues (hand selection & position) cause most of the problems you run into post flop.

about zoom... first of all you 100% need a HUD. it is your eyes!
another thing that i also do is to only play 2 tables and make heavy use of the "fold and watch" button. if you're getting into a tough decision in one table, click the "sit out next hand" button in the other and concentrate...

then after the session you may also want to sort the hand history by biggest pots and see what people stack off with, but that's not reeeaally important.
hope that helps :f_biggrin:

still if you don't want to get involved with zoom that should be better. it's like poker crack for me :f_eek: but i think that it's possible to still play a thinking game in zoom

A whole new thinking thing!!! Why do I bet?? Is it value or is it bluff???? Every time I play now and I make a move Im gonna think this. Why? Makes it sense if I do this or will I look like a complete fish?? Goodbye chartpoker, hello thinking poker!!!

Example I played yesterday. Normally when I get QQ I dance once in the living and think bet, bet, bet, shove.......now I was thinking "QQ, ah nice" bet for value preflop. 4 times the big blind because Im in MP here. BU calls with stats 21/0/0 over 34 hands. Ah nice. The flop comes "o shit an A" I bet to take the pot (bluff??) and asume if villain calls or raises me he has an A. Villain calls and I decide to play it passive to showdown but fold on a riverbet. If I played this a couple of weeks ago and villain showed Ax after my 3 bets I thougt I had a bad beat but now I think this play is better. And yes sometimes you fold too much against a fish. But the fish will call too much and you decide which is worse......

I really like this comment. It describes how I was thinking to get better. Just one thing at the time. If you put enough effort in study the results will follow.

Hello mate , what HUD you consider to be optimal for Zoom FR/SH ?
I guess very simple , VPIP PFR AF 3BET , any other stats should be considered ?

CBET and FCBET is very important in SH I think, along with the stats you mentionned.

"optimal"? i dunno :f_biggrin: i haven't really worked that much on mine

but an "optimal" hud for zoom definitely includes the steal stats. so attempt to steal/fold to steal/3bet steal/fold steal to 3bet
then you can just fill up with whatever. i have (fold to) cbet flop/turn/float/that kind of stuff... and also a whole lot more useless info in the popup :f_biggrin:

Yesterday 416 hands, all SH, and did make a profit!!! Things went really well!!! Just value bet and only bluff with a cbet if villain CAN fold.

Some hands:

Villain was a real whale playing 62/10 over 30 hands so I asume that TPGK is good enough to bet 3 streets value. Flush on the river making things very easy.....

Again a whale (I don't call this fishes anymore) 62/0 over 15 hands. Gives me a freeplay and I hit the nuts on the flop. C/R the flop and betting the other streets for value.

Villain 66/19 _love: over 72 hands. Had a read on him that he very lights min-3bets my PFR. I decide to flat his 3bet here because I think I'm ahead. Because villain showed much preflop aggression I let him bet and call it down. Otherwise I might scare him away. MP was a passive fish with 52/0 over 24 hands.

nice hands :f_biggrin:

third hand seems that villain knows something about betting for free cards but not much you can do i guess.
i think that i would play the same but i feel that it's somehow not optimal

I'm reading the chapter 3-betting and beyond. I'm rereading some parts several ttimes to understand them. One thing that I really learned from reading is that I now more play the villain instead the cards I have or hit.

Example if I see someones PFR is 30 after 50 hands I asume if I got KQo I'm very often ahead of his range so I will 3bet him. In the past I looked at the chart and thought "o, pfr.....KQo......fold". Makes a lot of diference.

My "thinking" still needs a lot improvement and then the winnings will come too.

Also ordered "Easy Game" written by Andrew "BalugaWhale" Seidman as a present for my birthday. Read a lot of good things about it and will be my next read. Think these 2 books are enough at this time to become a better player.
