Preflop (Pot:120)
Player 9 FOLD

Player 2 RAISE $192
Player 3 FOLD
Player 4 FOLD
Player 5 FOLD
Player 6 FOLD
Player 7 FOLD
Hero CALL $112

** My opponent is a TAG, very solid player. I know for sure if I 3-bet he would fold so I just flat **

Flop(Pot: $424)
7♣: 7♥: K♣:

Hero CHECK
Player 2 CHECK

**Checked the flop – with the intention of C/R - thinking he would Cbet almost anything on that flop **

Turn(Pot: $424)
7♣: 7♥: K♣: K♥:

Hero BET $240
Player 2 RAISE $800
Hero CALL $560

** Bet the turn to try and get value – but expected a RR anyway since my opponent is aggressive **

River(Pot: $2024)
7♣: 7♥: K♣: K♥: T♠:

Hero CHECK
Player 2 BET $160
Hero CALL $160

** just called the river - because no worst hand is going to call a RR

I know it's not the "correct" way to play aces, and I took a big risk there
but given my opponent - I thought it was the right play

not sure about the turn though - should I have checked it? to avoid the RR?
and the river?

would love to hear your thoughts

It's hard to evaluate your hand. Your play is based on your opponent. At the same time you don't give us any information on him (stats, special reads etc).

In general you should 3bet preflop if you are that deep. Why are you sure that he will always fold against your 3bet? If you don't 3bet him you will have problems to get it in on three streets. In the end you will loose value, especially because you are out of position as well.

As played, the rest of your hand is played well.

Oki I might be wrong here but on this river I would raise... his bet looks like a block bet so much and you raising the river here should make no sense to him unless you have TT. He could decide to call of light with some kind of pocket pair don't you think? I mean he is betting 160 into 2024... there has to be a possibility to get more value than that? I don't ever see him raise a bet here without a king.

If we raise and he decides to push we have a little problem
I don't see him calling with worse hands - a blockbet doesn't make sense if you want to call a bet anyways. Furthermore bet/call turn, donk river is kinda strong and i don't want to risk more chips then necessary.

Thanks guys for your input :)

Sorry I have no stats to give you but I have played with this guy before and seen him fold to a 3-bet often. Plus I kept a tight image at that table, so I'm sure if I did 3-bet they knew I was strong.

I didn't raise the river, thinking he wasn’t likely to raise me on turn with just a pocket pair. I thought he either has it or he's bluffing – in which case he wouldn’t call and I would'nt get to see what he had :) info is worth some value no?

How much would you raise him on the river?

Oki, I don't see him ever bluff shoving over a raise on the river but I can see that you don't wanna risk losing any more chips here.

So now that the hand is played out and evaluated could you tell us the result of the hand or PM it to me? I am very curious as to what he was holding.

Also he didn't bet/call turn, he raised turn an led river with a min bet.

I wouldn't bet the river since it is not the better play. You played it perfectly well imo (I still don't like the preflop call though).

Depending on how much history you have with the guy and what type of player he sees you as, there are cases here I would be raising(with my semi strong hands or turning something weak into a bluff). With no significant history though I would just sigh, call and feel I got a lot less value from my hand than I should. Which it turns out in this case you really didn't if we only take into consideration how the hand played out and what he was holding.

I would always 3bet this pre btw, want as much money in there preflop as possible with any premium holding.

I was surprised too :) It was a Premier Skill League freeroll, where players are slightly better than in a normal freeroll, and play tighter because of the point structure. I think his fish play came from thinking I was weak. He never put me on aces. And that's kind of the point isn’t it?

Wasn’t happy with the way I played this hand, that's why I posted it, but I still think he folds pre flop so imo it was a value of 2344 vs 424 from his initial raise, had I 3-bet pf.

No, the raise EP with T9o is awful.
Check flop then raising turn is.......... disastrous.
The river bet is gay.

So he's a fish because he's a fish, not because you did an incredibly smart slowplay. Your slowplay is bad because you lost a tons of value against every single hand he would have raise/call or raise/broke preflop.

You are result oriented.

What if he had AK ? He raises, you call. flop Qxx, you check, he bets, you call, turn x, you check, he checks, river x, you bet, he folds.
Or you can 3-bet pre, he 4-bets, you shove, he calls and you win his stack.
