question from a friend of mine :

at microstakes, nl10/nl5 in zoom & rush poker, what would you recommend as a 3betting range from the blinds vs unknown villain that steals? Should we go for value heavy or a polarized 3betting range?
also, what about the cold calling range OOP vs CO/BTN open? (considering no cold callers so headsup pots) (vs unknown villain, again.)

You have A♠x:spade:, blahblah607 has 78 or A3s, FrankyFix has 88 or 5♣6♣.
You were going for the check-raise river as you assume somebody made the flush and will bet.

hello pleno
how many hands would you defend from the blinds vs different ranges

vs
25%
35%
45%
60+%

assuming that villain isnt extremely exploitible in folding to 3bets or something like that

Hey pleno, ur thread here is so nice it made me play again :)
( sorry for my bad english )

I have been grinding my roll from 100$ to 10k like 4 times each in 2 month for the last 2 1/2 years. Then i
cashed everything out or started playing plo/HU/tourneys etc. or made a 6 month break.
So after 2 1/2 years of poker it really got me nowhere because of my bad
ability to keep my roll and focus at one game. Ur thread really got me
focused again :) 6 max forever i hope.

Anyway i havent been playing for almost a year, now i am back and i tried to
work with ur HUD. But i find it really hard to define color ranges with each
stat. Actually i could probably ( not even sure ) do it with the pfr but i dont know
about 3bet%, CB etc. Could u probably help me here? i Still use HEM1 though.

Nice thing to have wud be something like this for each stat ( i know iam asking for much here :P ):

CO PFR: 0-10% nitty, 10-20% tight, 20-32% moderate, 32%-45% lose, 45%+ fish.

What i also want to know: Where do i get all the content of all the stuff you know?
Its often kinda hard getting information in the first place but also u never know if that what ur learning fits into your game or not or if its true at all.

If i formyself sit down and lets say i try to think about cb% of different player types, i could never really say: ok vs his cb%percentage i can checkraise
boards like xxx and xxx because his range is just to wide and he will fold alot.
If i do that i will probably miss out his certain player type in which he might still call to much on the flop etc... I really struggle to get all the knowledge i need.

best wishes, Naems

in which spots do you overbet rivers?
how much do you bet on the river when you c/c in BB and turn goes ch/ch? do you vbet 2nd pair then? lets say you c/c T9s on QT4r Turn 6o and it goes ch/ch, river is 3, you bet?

Hey, yeah I've played a bunch of 500nl recently. Its a tough, but fun game.

What spots do I overbet rivers?

It completely depends. Generally I actually make bigger sizings on the turn than on the river, I've seen recently that people are making their mind up on the turn and if they call the turn, they call the river, so I try to make their mind up for them.

Example, something I've been doing recently.

UTG opens, we 3bet CO. Flop is 1033, I bet 3/4 pot, they call. Turn is whatever rag and I pot the turn, its working ridicuously well at mid stakes, but I wouldn't recommend it at small stakes.

I don't think you really need to have an overbetting range, generally just stick to more traditional standards and barrel the right boards.

IE, always 100% 3 barreling when boards is xxx Kx or xxxQx, generally xxxAx is a little different as people call say A4/A5/A10+ on flops such as 238 etc.

In regards to value betting, it depends, generally A10 will be more of a value bet than 109 in the situation you said because we dominte 10x that checks back, however A10=109 generally if villain opens UTG/MP.

Vs min raises I don't like to deviate from my strategy, we are generally getting a really good price so I call very wide. Vs 3x, from the cut off say, I will 3bet my suited marginal hands, like Q9, Q8, K10, 96, Ax etc.

regarding second questions, kinda mentioned it above, but I would defend relatively similar to a HU range (we get a better price evn because of the small blind :)) if villain is not a complete nit.

A question of my own, if I may: Leakbuster, do you recommend it?

hey,

not particularly. What I would suggest to do is get a good winning player to send you his stats, complete position by position. Then see what the biggest discrepancies are between the two stats. Usually at lower stakes it is down to aggression. Would be far more beneficial for you than leakbuster imo.

Personally i feel like preflop agression is so beneficial in becoming a better player overall. It forces you to deal with alot of 3 bet pots postflop which in turn focuses you to think harder about handranges since the pot is bloated and you might be committed 1 or 2 streets after the flop.

I recently started playing zoom ( 5 nl ). I got quite ' TAG'-ish stats but upped my 3 betting to something like 7% and looking to add another percent or 2.

I feel that taking pots down preflop is underestimated alot.

I do have a problem with 3 betting. I noticed i'm actually 3 betting depolarised as a std almost. Which is fine if people call to much since i can 3 bet a hand like KJs for value vs a donk. But i'm also doing it a bit too much vs TAG players. Which might be flushing down some EV since i'm forcing out a big chunk of their continuing range. Should i instead 3 bet more hands that are at the top of my folding range and have some blocker value?

ty for all your time , info and work :f_love:

Hey,

Thanks for the nice words. At small stakes you shouldnt 3bet the top of your folding range as generally players call more 3bets, if you are playing against guys with a high fold to 3bet % then we should start flatting KQ/AQ/AJ even AK and 3betting a8,a9,a7,k9 to show an autoprofit.

Vs the standard fish we should have kq/aq/kj/ak in our 3betting range as we expect villain with a dominated range :)

Our plan is to 3bet with hands that will dominate his range and we think he will call with weaker range +bluffs, and flat those hands that we think we are ahead of his range but if we 3bet he will only continue with stronger range?
Also I am folding 90% against 3bets I know it's way tooo much. Any ideas how to start opening up, otherwise I will get very exploited later.

Answered this above too :)

If you are folding 90% its going to be a massvie mistake. What is your openign %? You are probably opening WAY too wide, or just not defending, generally 60% would be a more optimal fold to 3bet %.

Villain looks decent, resteal ~10%, raise cb ~25-30%, only 150 hands, plays 20/16. He has mostly draws here, so what is the correct approach? Call and jam all blanks on the turn? By blank I mean no heart, no A, no 9.

Hey there,

I think just folding is best here. We could even check back here as there are not many equity shares that will fold, the only thing that will fold flop which we are happy with folding is small pocket pairs, and out of a BB defending range this is obviously a very small part.

I would consider 3betting this flop if it had a different structure.

K64hcs seems like a way better board to 3bet as people will c/r 6x or pocket pairs, as well as bluffs and their value range for c/r is extremely thin.

On this board I expect too much to continue as his bluffs are usually semi bluffs that will have the required perceived equtiy to go with the hand.

Hey man,

Completely understand and sympathise with that. But don't worry.

What is pleno1's equation of poker?

Initiative + Position = Profit.

If we raise the button, at small stakes they will realise we are weak, hwoever they will make PASSIVE adjustments, meaning that they will DEFEND WIDER not 3BET WIDER, if they are defending a wider range then we can cbet 100% and likely show a profit with our initial cbet.

If anything we want them to think we are weak ;)

Hey Patrick,

With all the bumhunting nowadays in poker, I implented the stat: 'Raise when limpers in pot' in my hud to differentiate the seemingly 'good' regs that know how to bumhunt and the ones that don't.

Thusfar it has worked quite well and thought i'd share the love and ask what you think about it :)

Oh and how are the ponies?

Hey,

I think I forgot about the ponie joke, remind me

I quite like the stat yeh, generally you should be able to see from their vpip/pfr how nitty/bumhunty they are though :)

Colour coding regulars is an absolute must though.

I generally mark huge fish, green/yellow
Bad regs pink
Good regs blue

And works out pretty good like that.
