My general gameplan is to get 24 tables going asap since im going for a milestone atm, then after i double up i check how the table looks like and if i have a position on the fish im obviously not leaving the table, thats just about the dumbest thing you can do. If the table is bad i will get a new one.
The reason i started playing MSS over the last week is mainly the fact that there's a shortie infestation on Pokerstars FR tables which basically forces you to play short stacked half the time anyway. Your pretty much forced to learn it or you will leak money vs them. Its amazing how many ppl make even basic mistakes such as preflop betsizings and ranges when playing 40-60bb deep. Whats even worse is that over 50% of shorties doesn't know what they're doing either.
As for the variance, its pretty much the same as playing 100bb deep in terms of bb's, but it is higher in terms of Buy-Ins.
You can also get a decent edge playing a mix of short and full stacks by basically messing up your hud stats. Its a lot easier to play hyper-aggressive with a 40bb stack then it is 100bb deep. Like just take a 4bet range for example on the BU my 4bet will be about 6% playing 100bb deep, but playing 40bb deep it will be about 15% and it will end up evening out at around 10%.
Now since many players depend on their huds to make most decisions what will happen in this spot seeing a 10% overall 4bet range on this position it will be a lot easier to get paid off when playing 100bb deep and you will have a bit more fold equity playing 40bb deep. This is especially powerful on sites like Party where you can change your name every month.
I was actually really surprised that my winrate is actually higher then playing full stacked and on top of that i get more hands per hour so my hourly is significantly higher. I did run good tho so in the end i suspect it will be similar to 100bb play.
Perhaps you are not winning with MSS because you are not playing it completely. Built upon a statistical model, it appears that such things as always c betting against a single opponent, is a sound strategy. Yet, you have decided to not employ it. I think that your decision was based upon an unfortunate Variance. Some of the profits to be found in MSS are relatively small and Variance could, for a period of time, make them appear to be non-existant. Expecting immediate substantial profit in every element of the strategy is, I think, a mistaken expectation. Long-term profit, on the other hand, appears to be a very favorable probability.
I have been playing the strategy in Live "Capped" (restricted buy-in) Poker Casino Ring games and for the first time in my life I have enjoyed a solid profit after hundreds of hours of play.
Two reasons why I think BSS is better than MSS in 2nl or 5NL:
1. With MMS, you are limiting your payoff against weak players who will stack off with weaker hands, which of course happens a lot at these stakes.
2. You don't have enough fear/fold equity against fellow regs. With 100BB however, you can steal a lot of pots since regs are more hesitant to risk their big stacks with TPTK on a wet board. But with about 50BB, they may call you down with hands like TPMK.
When I play MSS at NL2, I play TAG. Very, Very tight. 8/6/2. At NL2 you can find very loose and bad players, you can play just TOP hands, and you willbe payed.
I start to play MSS at NL5 FR. I see, that players are nitty and play very very TAG game. So they will usually fold to a preflop raise, or a C-bet.
I play LAG style. I don't know, I am just lucky, or It is profitable to play LAG style on TAG tables?
