SB posts SB 0.5 BB, BB posts BB 1 BB

Pre Flop: (pot: 1.5 BB) Hero has 6♥ 5♥

fold, fold, fold, Hero raises to 2 BB, SB calls 1.5 BB, BB raises to 5 BB, Hero calls 3 BB, SB calls 3 BB

Flop: (15 BB, 3 players) 8♥ 2♦ 5♠
SB checks, BB bets 10 BB, Hero calls 10 BB, SB calls 10 BB

Turn: (45 BB, 3 players) 6♦
SB checks, BB checks, Hero bets 24 BB, SB calls 24 BB, fold

River: (93 BB, 2 players) Q♥
SB checks, Hero checks

Is river ch ok? If SB would be 3better, I would shove, but, I dont see what could he have except set. He cant call my shove with any worse hand imo, considering his range.

Hi M,

Preflop is probably OK to call, not thirlled about it.

Flop is interesting. What is your plan on blanks? Notice you don't have much space to play vs BB, his next bet will be a shove.

River thoughts: SB calls more than just sets. He can still have A8s, 78s, 89s, 76s, 99, TT, maybe JJ as well. It's also possible he has but will never call stuff like A4, A3s but my point is you highly under-estimate his range here with the odds he gets preflop. I would say if you have aggro image with image, vbet is the way to go. If not, checking back is fine, you can't really go wrong, it's vbetting that can be -EV, check back won't be.

I agree he could have A8s, 78s, 89s, 76s, 99, TT, maybe JJ as you said, but on river I think he can't call those hands if I shove (unless he is huge fish, which he is not). I also don't have crazy image that I bet bet shove with air after just calling preflop and being 3way.

So you suggest fold preflop and fold flop? I thought bb could give up turn, otherwise I fold.

So you expect BB to cbet overs 3way with his stack size in a 3bet pot? If you don't hit the turn, do you bet it and then shove river as a bluff, expecting to make him fold JJ? Either you can vbet or you plan on bluffing when you miss (most often) because if you say you only hit to win at showdown but can't bluff when you don't improve, nor can you value bet when you improve, your flop call should be quite -EV. Even if you can bluff sometimes, or vbet when you hit, it seems super marginal to call with BB so short since he will shove turns too often for you to call.

I agree about preflop, flop has to be a call, there are a lot of good cards for our hand anyway, even overlooking the fact that this is pretty much the best board for us that doesn't give us trips, two pair or an awesome draw.

SB's range can be so wide here given that you minraised pre and that he was getting odds to call the squeeze with literally anything he called your open with, so there is absolutely no point in guessing what exactly his range looks like or how he plays different parts of it on the river.

If we look at our own range though, which is the only variable we [should] know, it's pretty clear that two pair is incredibly high up there, so there is absolutely no way that we could ever check that hand back on the river. What you're saying about the EV is silly, we shouldn't be looking to avoid making -EV plays, instead we should be looking to make the highest EV play.

Problem is short BB betting into 3 people. Relative to his range, our hand is not doing that great anymore. Furthermore, good turn cards are irrelevant when there is not real turn and river play given BB's stack.

We should have an idea of his range or at least the strength of his range. Can we expect him to have air? No. Can we expect him to slowplay AA? Probably not. We won't be extremely accurate but we always have some info on that. He also calls flop, that narrows his range even further.

I did say we should vbet but Hero states he will never get called by worse. How is that better than taking a free showdown then? I think 8x won't fold that often so we have a vbet, especially following the logic that should be applied for preflop and flop that hitting our hand will usually get us called quite often.
