well that's kind of true, but it's not exactly the same. Pokerstrategy's main focus is on individual videos.

I guess pokerstrategy does have the beginner's course - I'm not too familiar with it though, probably should check that out.

If I think back to when I was first playing in NL2 as in total noob no experience, I didn't really want that many videos to watch or anything. I remember really wanting to start off with experience as my teacher, so personally I wouldn't probably be considering a video course till I'd got a real feel for how online poker worked.

Obviously I would much rather I had the hindsight to start learning from vids straight away, but for me personally the desire to learn from videos was not there at first, not for a while, maybe 4 months or so. So I dunno if total beginners wanting to learn the game are the best target market. I think if you want to do a course, its better targeted for people who are doing ok, but wanna step things up a notch.

i was thinking the same, I doubt a beginner will pay or share revenue. And also you are too far advanced for giving advice to the beginners and expecting to be paid at your real value. There are tons of free poker videos on the net and even Galfond or Ivey could't gather enough beginners to teach them on order to show enough profit.
I guess group couching as TwiceT does is the best way to control the ratio time invest/profit together with a site of presentation, a forum, a dozen of videos produced by you, different level of access, diff packages etc.

Have the same problem:), just bought your book (which I find it very good till now) and Application of no-limit by Janda, and just struggle myself to read them instead of playing.

feedback much appreciated - still re-evaluating the idea in my head. I was thinking of the most basic human psychology when it comes to evaluating purchase decisions such as this one.

Maybe it's the target market that I should be thinking about (I agree that total beginners may not be a good idea, especially since you cannot charge so much).

About free material around: I think those material are free for a reason - They are bad. I just wonder how much money a beginner is willing to invest. This probably requires the student to know/believe that his initial investment will pay for itself.

How does something like "EARN 1K A MONTH PLAYING PART-TIME POKER in 3 months" sounds like? Of course I'm not sure if I could deliver such results at the moment, but I do think that it's very possible to create a really effective course, provide I dedicate enough effort to it. People's initial reactions to this will probably be skepticism but I think this problem could be overcome with testing and testimonials (and I'm definitely willing to test it out with several of my friends)

It'll probably take 100s of hours to create and test, but at the same time not only would this be quite an interesting experience for me, but if the theory and material provided is solid enough, it should still be extremely relevant in 5 years time, enabling this to be a good source of passive income

mbml, in my opinion you should really consider this idea of yours. YourDoom and Gordon are on to a winner with their formulation here: they're getting TONs of customers (even if you only judge by their community posters) and must be making some nice $$$, though they only created this content and now comment here and there on blogs. It just seems way more EV than coaching/writing.

Like the others, I think you want to target those players who are trying to make something of themselves, and have already seen/read a lot of content. You want them to think you can give them a structured route to success -- i.e. a well structured course with daily blog writing, homework, and feed back from you and the community, that will keep them progressing from A to B.

I think one of the reasons Gordon does so well is because he insists that students do homework, and this makes them feel like they're getting something out of the course (more so than just watching videos). When they do it, and post it, they feel successful and happy with their investment (regardless of whether they're getting better). Because those blogs are public, these "happy investors" advertise for you, and more people sign up. Your idea about 1K a month is decent, since it's easily achievable and will be a solid goal for people to work towards.

IMO, if you did something like this, I think you'd need to find a way to involve yourself with customers more than other course-coaches, but without spending too much time. Maybe, as part of your course, you could have something where you mark a students homework. Only takes you 5 mins, and you'd give the impression that you're really involved in the course, unlike some other guys on the market.

Anyway, sorry for rambling, but I've also been thinking about these courses a lot and think it's one of the best ways to make some $ coaching.

Edit: also, starting around $300-400 for most basic courses seems optimal to me .. NL25 guys can still consider this.

Yeah I think a good target market would be someone around my level, nl50. I think earlier than that there would be hard for someone to pay a price that would make it worthwhile for you to create/run.

I'm around about the level where I've been thinking maybe I could get some value out of doing a course like one of these (or just get some coaching) and have been thinking about it.

I wouldn't reinvent the wheel too much, just do something similar (with similar price points) to what the other guys are doing. But a little bit better.

If you want an example student for marketing to take from nl50 to nl1k I'll sign up. :f_biggrin: It's probably about time I got some coaching anyways...

Another huge thing to consider is marketing. I've a friend who tried to do something similar last year with a trading service. But despite being brilliant and very profitable, he could never really get it off the ground because he was out marketed by far worse.

Hi, mbml. How to construct CC ranges vs different OR %s?
Is 25-35% rule for 3bet ranges is applicable to constructing CC ranges? I mean mb ~30-50% of OR %?
For example pot odds method, vs 3bb OR non blinds I need ~40% equity, does every hand in my range need to have 40+% or its better to calculate range vs range?

hmm the % thing doesn't work so well.
I think I did a video on that, you might want to check it out, it's part 2 of the constructing preflop range theory videos I think.

I'm mildly disappointed with this month, given that my peak was at 33k and that I ran 10k below EV. I guess I shouldn't complain too much though.

Rakeback: ~12 000 (120 k VPPs)

I'm left with 500k points with 3 months to go. I'm kinda screwed and I will have to pull off some crazy marathon sessions in the coming weeks.

Clicked observe on the NL1k zoom game today cos I saw there where 10 to 15 players online, saw you grinding it up. Hows that going? Is it possible to play many hands before the pool dries up?

well the game runs when there's a fish. i don't mind playing if there are fish or some weak regs. if there are like 7-8 regs and more than half of them are stronger than me I would just leave.

May sound like a stupid question, but how do you judge if a reg is stronger than you? Guessing its not just a lack of identified leaks or weaknesses.
