wow, thats profitable as hell. how many tables do you play at once
My MT ratio is ~3. I'm very strict in table selection, that's why I usually don't play more than 5 tables at a time.
Ok guys, I'm back after a hectic time (Vegas + party at home). Vegas was fun and I promise I'll write an update today or tomorrow about how the last few days went, just didn't have the time yet to do so. Also have to eliminate 7 forum pages of in arrear hands on the dutch community, so busy times ahead. Going to edit my downswing article as I noticed there are quite a few spelling and grammatical errors in it.
[brag]Also, I'm having quite the run at the midstakes so I'll probably take a shot at 5/10 later this week:

Since 01/05 (and yes, that's PTBB and not BB).

Timor sick stats again, I would like your know-how
Actually it's all shorthanded, and of course I was in a reasonable upswing. Closed July with about 2000$ profit because variance evened out. Right now I put some parts of my roll on Stars and Full Tilt to have broader table selection. Too bad I can't play all that much due to reexaminations.
Officially my first post as a full time pro.
I graduated (with distinction ;)) with a degree in Management this week. But in my mind I had made the decision to go pro a long time before I even graduated. I think that currently, there's still too much money to be made in poker to be passing up on. I'm certainly not going to be grinding for the rest of my life, but the plan is to go pro for a year or 2 (unless something heavily changes in belgian tax law, like in The Netherlands this week), and then reevaluate. I still have to consult a tax expert concerning my winnings, but those are things to be taken care of later as I won't have to fill in a tax form until June next year. I'm also moving out of my mom's house later this week and finally I'm moving to my own place. The place is quite expensive, but it's kind of hard to get an appartment/house you can rent if you can't show a paycheck.
I'm currently playing NL400SH (mainly on PartyPoker, but also Stars and Full Tilt). I dropped NL600 for the time being because I had some losses taking shots at NL1000, had a moderate downswing at NL600, and had to cash out a bit to pay for my rent warrant, and some provisionary living expenses. Also, since I'm going pro, I want a more conservative BRM of at least 40 buyins on NL400 (I currently have 51, BR at 20400$). When I get to 27k$, I'm taking up NL600 again. It shouldn't really take all that long, because my hourly winrate NL400 is 80$ without rakeback. For those of you that are worried about my low samplesize, I also have 28k NL600 hands, where my hourly winrate is 65$. The 2 limits combined, I have 88k hands for an hourly winrate of 98$. Granted, still a bit on the low side but I think it's sufficient to back up my claim of a winning player. Even if I'm only half this good, I still earn more than any average starterspay.
Btw, I choose to work with hourly winrate instead of (PT)BB/100 hands, as that is what matters when you're going pro. It's easy to have 5PTBB/100 winrate when you're playing NL600 on 1 table, but that's not going to suffise to pay the bills.
My goals for the future are:
[ ] Grind at least 45k hands a month
[ ] Move back up to NL600 SH
[ ] Earn enough to buy a car
[ ] Take down a big tournament cash (+10k)
I also promised that I would be writing a Vegas report about the last days. I always forgot about it, but here goes. Some things are a little fuzzy because it's been 2 months, but whatever. For those of you who want to read about the first few days, you can always browse back to http://raisydaisy.pokerstrategy.com .
Tuesday 01/07:
It was the first day we had a chance to have a long sleep to recuperate from the first few hectic days, so that's what we did. Had a pretty late lunch and afterwards we went to the Fashion Show Mall to buy some contact lenses for my right eye, and some other stuff. The eye doctor was really friendly, as they were in general in the US. She thought it was kind of funny that I forgot my contacts and played a poker tournament with only one eye. Also, it seemed that my eyes had worsened further on since my last checkup, so meh. Better not forget my contacts next year when I'm already blind.
I wanted to profit from the weak $ as much as possible so I bought myself an Ipod Nano + skin, Levi's jeans, a shirt, some shorts and other random stuff. All in all, things had about the numerical price in $ as they had in Belgium, so on average I made about 33% profit (even more with the Levi's clothes, because they were discounted).
In the evening we paid the Strip a Visit: everything from the Harley Davidson Café till the Bellagio:

Also passed by a huge M&M's shop: 4 stages of the most useless M&M's stuff you can imagine. Name any daily object and there's probably an M&M's version of it to be found in the store: posters, lamps, a car,...

The jacket in the pic hereunder costed about 3000$. A lot of money for what is probably one of the worst jackets I've seen in my whole life ♦:

Later on we went to the Mirage. Dimi, my accompaying friend, played a 50$ SNG and I was off the the 2/5 NL cash tables. There was generally a relaxed atmosphere, except for one abbrasive guy who kept making inappropriate comments about the dealers bosom, who were clearly fake. She probably was a stripper before. I always make a habit out of it to be rather quiet at the table in the beginning until I get a feel for the table and gradually I open up more when I feel that there aren't many good players, which was the case here. When people hear I'm from Belgium they start asking me all kinds of questions about the beer and food. One guy even had a brother in law who lived in Brussels, and it surprised me how much he knew about my country. Abbrasive guy asked me if I ever tried a beer called "Flat Tire", which according to him was Belgian. Now, I'm no beer expert by any means, but it would surprise me very much to see a Belgian beer having an English name. I ordered one (btw, drinks are free at the tables, that's why there are so many bad players I guess ;)), and the bottle said "Bottled and brewed in Belgium". Lol, American breweries abusing our good name, because it clearly wasn't Belgian. Whatever, it still tasted ok. Nothing really exciting happened pokerwise, took some pots here and there and had about 200$ profit. Dimi already went home because he busted out on the bubble with a huge suckout against a drunk woman after being chip leader the whole time. He was clearly frustrated and didn't know how to handle the beats all that well ♦
The playerfield at the table thinned, until we were effectively playing 6max. I witnessed some Dutch guy losing a huge pot: Each player had about 300BB effective stacks. UTG raises, Dutch guy reraises, Button flatcalls and UTG as well. Flop is 933. UTG checks, Dutch guy bets, Button folds and UTG raises. Dutch guy calls and turn comes a total brick. UTG bets nervously with very shakey hands (a HUGE tell btw, he clearly had a big hand), Dutch guy raises and somehow they manage to get the whole chabam into the middle. Dutchie shows Aces, UTG shows 99 for nines full of threes and takes down a 3000$ pot. Dutchie took off with tail between his legs, but was rather persistent as he bought in again half an hour later with 1000$ again. I liked it: if the guy is overplaying Aces that much I clearly hoped for a big hand to stack this guy.
Nothing really happened afterwards until the end: 2 hands before I intend to quit I get A :diamond:K
and raise it up. BB flatcalled. Flop comes 3 :diamond:6 :diamond:9 :diamond:. Button donks, I raise to a pretty sizeable amount and he calls. Turn K :spade:. BB checks, I make a pretty sizeable bet again and once again I get called. At this point I'm not really sure he has only 1
and he probably has at least a pair to go with it, perhaps even better. River is an 8♣ and I'm left with TPTK on a pretty dangerous board. He checks and I'm not feeling all that well about my hand, so I'm happy to go to showdown and check. He shows 99 for a set and takes down a pretty big pot. Net profit for the night: -300$. Yay. I was rather pissed about playing less than one pot an hour, being pretty carddead, and finally right before leaving I didn't even have any profit. But to use a pretty beaten-to-death cliché: that's poker.
Wednesday 02/07:
Just chilled a little bit by the pool and played some poker, nothing really interesting. Pulled off a huge 3 barrel bluff against a guy purely based on physical tells, which was probably about the first time ever I did such a thing. My play was kinda reckless because people don't like to fold on the 2/5 cash tables but I just had "that feeling" that he wouldn't be able to call. Got a beat with KK vs A4 for all of my stack (120BB) later on when the guy calls my preflop 3bet and calls my c-bet on the flop with air to take it away from me on the turn. Turn comes an A, giving me the nutflushdraw as well. Stacks get in andI lose anyway. yet again I vanish into the Vegas night with net loss. Whatever ![]()

Thursday 03/07:
Went to the Rio to chill a little bit in the PartyPoker VIP lounge. Free food and beverage is always nice
also there was a PlayStation 3 and a DVD player to our disposal. It wasn't really crowded so it was kind of cool to have the room practically to ourselves. I also got a bag with tshirts, a longsleeve and a hoodie in it, all too sizeable for me, so it as more of a present for Dimi instead of me except for the bag. Later on we went to the room where the Main Event was running, and we took a seat in the crowd cheering on the featured table. Scotty Nguyen was playing right in front of us. Oddly enough, we didn't hear the word "baby" more then 5 times during the 2 hours we spent there. You can't count on anything these days.

Overview of the room

Featured table
Scotty Nguyen baby

Furthermore we encountered:

Antonio Esfandiari

A blurry Chris Moneymaker

Daniel Negreanu doing a fish-impression
So far I hadn't done one of the famous Vegas nightclubs yet. Dimi wasn't really up for that, so I decided to meet up with Rob, some friend I know from Leuven (my student city) who was also in Vegas together with friends. They in turn had made reservations for bottle service at Tryst together with some other Belgians (including some of the higher managers from Unibet), so I decided I would joint those guys for a hopefully fun night. For those of you who don't know what bottle service means: you basically rent a corner of the club the whole night, and pay per bottle. Tryst is one of the most famous and luxurious nightclubs in Vegas at the Wynn hotel, so starting price for bottle service there is probably about 400$ (don't know for sure) and can easily get higher as you order more than one bottle. Those guys were already there and I had played some poker first, so it was already kind of late (1:45AM) when I arrived at the Wynn. The bouncers told me I couldn't get in anymore because it was too late, so that kinda sucked. Some hot girls of course had no problem with entering the club. I was persistant and realized that girls get what they want with their looks and guys with their money. Since it was Vegas, I figured this unwritten rule of society to be even more true, so I asked the bouncer how much I would have to pay to get in. He consulted some clipboard guy who apparently determined who got in, got back to me and replied "100$", which was kind of baffling. Whatever, I already had my mind made up for a night at Tryst so I couldn't really care about the money. After all, this is Vegas. I still tried to lower the price by bargaining but it didn't work, and after 5 minutes of going back and forth (well, only forth) I still agreed to pay the full 100$. I shook the hand of the clipboard guy with a green bill in my hand and I was in. Lol, I felt like a real baller for just being able to get in like that when there was still a line of 30 people waiting desperately, as if 100$ was nothing to me. Bear in mind, this was not the entry fee, so at the desk I still had to pay 30$ to enter. I felt this was going to be of the most decadent nights of my life, and it hadn't even started yet, lol.
Anyway, I was finally in, and my first impression of the club was just "WOW". Probably the classiest and decadent club I've ever visited. Pics (not mine unfortunately):

The place was crowded with hot and drunk women. Yummie! Anyway, I met up with Rob and the other guys of his group. Most were already quite drunk: they had ordered numerous bottles of vodka. One guy was already sitting in the couch with his head between his leg, completely wasted. Socialized a little bit with some unknown and asked if I could get a glass too. He said sure, I took some vodka and he shook his head. He grabbed the bottle and immediately tripled the dose. Lol. I got drunk pretty fast this way and had a great time. Danced a little bit. Unfortunately we didn't stay very long anymore, so I hadn't had a chance to check out some more eye candy on the dancefloor. Damn, those women were fine, probably the hottest I've seen in my whole life. I miss Vegas when I see so many plain women on the streets here in Belgium, it just doesn't stand up in a million years to what I saw there ![]()
Outside, there was a big limo waiting for the guys to take them to their next party destination. I didn't know where they were going but quite frankly I didn't care anymore at the time: I was so wasted everything was fine for me, and I still had lots of energy. So I went along. Inside the limo I met Davidi Kitai, Belgiums first bracelet winner who had taken down a 1500$ NL Hold'em event earlier in the World Series, making an amazing calldown with K-high in the process. I congratulated him on that and said it was a pretty amazing call. He smiled and agreed ![]()
So the limo dropped us off at some stripclub. I hadn't been to a stripclub before like ever, so at first I didn't quite realize what the place was, until I saw the naked women walking around the place ♦ The rest of the evening is the kind of story that fall under the denominator: "What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas" ♦ It suffises to say that I never spent so much money in one night and I got slapped in the face by a stripper for not paying for a lapdance I didn't ask for
The woman asks if I want a dance and I say "Meh, try to convince me", meaning "talk to me a little bit and I might be up for it if you seem kinda cool". She starts dancing on my lap though I didn't really say she could, but I let her anyway (nasty, huh ♦). At the end she says I owe her 80$ and I refuse to give her that because I never said I wanted a dance in the first place. I offered her 20$ to get rid of her, she takes it and gives me a bitch slap in return before taking off. The slap was kind of hard, but I couldn't stop laughing nonetheless because I thought it was so funny. My first time at a strip club, and already this kind of behaviour, lol. I should be ashamed.
I left the club at about 6AM, completely wasted, after having the most decadent baller night in my whole life. Just writing about it makes me wanna do it all over again ♦
Friday 04/07:
I woke up pretty late with a huge hangover. Man oh man, why do I have to drink so much. Whatever, it was worth it. I don't remember the day quite well actually. The only thing I do remember is that we went to Ruth Chris' steakhouse, one of the better steakhouses in Vegas. Getting up really late and having not eaten anything, I was pretty much starving when we arrived there at about 7PM. The place was very nice. Also you have this host who takes care of everything for you: he advises, orders, makes some small talk,... . The guy was really friendly and we had a talk about European vs. American attitudes and openness. Generally people in Vegas are so much nicer than they are in Europe.
We ordered some appetizers, a bottle of wine and a huge steak. The piece of meat was so big that we both had to eat for half an hour before it was fully consumed. Man, that thing was big. As we were eating, we decided to have a bet on the steak Dimi had: he had to guess how much it weighed, and I had to say whether I thought the steak to be heavier or lighter. The loser would have to pay the tip, which was expected to be around 40$. Dimi said 750 grams, and after a long thought said it would be heavier. After consulting our host and some conversions from ounces to grams, it turned out to be 900 grams (mine was 700 btw). We asked for the bill, I paid 100$, Dimi 100$ +40$ tip. Ship it.
I'm going to cut the post off here, it's already long enough as it is. I'll write about the last 3 days later on. If you made it until here, congratulations
Yep, very nice read. I made it till the end. ♦
Good luck on the tables and don't try to steal my blind!!!!!!!!
nice poast ![]()
FWIW I think 40-50BI BRM is far from nitty for a pro and borderline aggressive IMO IYAM, and 45K is pretty lazy ♦
Does anyone knows when/where can I see/download the WSOP 2008 (Main event specially)?
