SB posts SB 0.5 BB, BB posts BB 1 BB

Pre Flop: (pot: 1.5 BB) Hero has A♥ A♦

fold, fold, Hero raises to 3 BB, fold, fold, fold, BTN calls 3 BB, fold, BB calls 2 BB

Flop: (9.5 BB, 3 players) 9♠ 3♦ 5♣
BB checks, Hero bets 6 BB, BTN calls 6 BB, fold

Turn: (21.5 BB, 2 players) J♣
Hero bets 15 BB, BTN calls 15 BB

River: (51.5 BB, 2 players) K♣
Hero bets 20 BB, BTN raises to 50 BB, fold

His raise on the river is pretty strong, i thought i could go for small value because worse can call me down. Like one pair hands. But his raise indicates, sets. 2pairs or the flush.

Hi advancedTN1984

Preflop: looks fine

Postflop: you can also induce with that really small raise but generally people don't have much to bluff with there.

But the question is, what one pair hands can call there? TT? What else? Some Jx floats?

What about his line on the river? Don't you think that his line is the best one? So bet small / fold ? Or would you rather check / fold here ?

Betting the river is fine if you can get value from enough hands.

The question still stands, what do we get value from there?

Backdoor flush + slowplayed sets and even some 2p are possible. Some Kx (2p) are possible too. I just don't see a lot that we get value from

The problem which i have with such spots is that i am out of position on the river and that's not nice. I have betted twice for protection and value. Another option on the river would be a check call. But he hasn't that many bluffs on river either. Lets say he continues with all backdoor flush draws on flop. Then the turn he only continues with clubs. 9x. TT and Jx. QQ,KK. Also his sets and 2pair hands. I cant imagine lots of 2 pair hands in his preflop range, so only sets. On the river i am betting against worse hands. so basicly his overpairs. 9x. Jx. But most overpairs will be affraid of the king i guess.

What will hapen if i only check river? And what can i do best, on a raise, small one like 20bb or a large one like 50,70 bb?

If you decide to bet, you must fold to a raise since you are 99,9 % of the time beat there.

I do agree with Bogdan, that I also don't see many worse hands call on the river, so maybe the best play is just check/fold. There is not a lot bluffs villain could have. This just smells like a slow played set or a runner runner flush. In case of the latter, I don't see anything else than A♣Q♣. He could float that one on the flop and pickup the nut flush draw on the turn. Also likely is A♣9♣ and 9♣T♣ and 9♣8♣

Okay, I now also dont see that many hands. Thanks a lot.

That's correct.

If we check there's nothing worse betting (not much anyway) so it's a ck/fold.

So that's our best line despite how "nitty" that looks at the surface.
