Hero shows A♥ J♥ (One Pair, Jacks) (Pre 32%, Flop 20%, Turn 11%)
UTG+1 wins $8.83

Poorly played hand from near the end of my session, possibly due to fatigue/tilt. I believe my line was fine until the turn, where I simply should have folded. Is that correct?
Would a raise/fold have been a better, or at least suitable, alternative on the flop?

Hey Harrier88,

i am not an expert but i will try to say something here:). I would like to ask ourselves why do we call at first place? We play vs good player and we know good players are really tight from UTG+1 position. I just checked the SHC for FR and from early position you raise only AK and TT+. So you can imagine taht your range is behind villains range. So form this range we beat here only AK and TT. Maybe the easiest thing is to fold.

I'm assuming you're talking about my preflop call? I actually believe that one was justifiable, because I had position on two big stacks who were already in the pot, and AJs also offers decent opportunities for straight and flush draws. If I hit one of these, the fact that villain has a big hand himself would actually work in my favor, since he would have a harder time letting go of his hand.
Calling down all the way with top pair was obviously foolish in that situation, but like I said, I wasn't at the top of my game at that point :f_biggrin:.

As played, would you say the flop would have been an easy fold? After all, that kind of flop wouldn't have been that bad for villain to make a bluff c-bet.

No i am not implying on flop fold. Now we have quite difficult situation but definitely we cannot fold with TPTK. Also you will find yourself in difficult situations when you hit A because of domination and you won't get paid off often when you have better hand. I also noticed you have just a bit more than 80bb...is there any particular reason to not be full stacked? Maybe you would have nicer playability postflop with suited connectors. It would be interesting to hear also other opinions. I still think that UTG+1 range is to strong to profitably call him.

MP3    31.69%  30.30%   1.40% { AJs }

In my opinion, everything was well played untill the river, where u cant beat anything. U only beat QJ and KQ, and if opponent is not a fish, QJ is not in hes opening range enough of the time, same with kj. Kj and Qj is very small part of hes range when betting on river.Ur getting 3:1 so u need to beat 25% of hes range for break even point. Put it in poker stove and count. I wouldnt even count in QJo, QTo etc. QJs and KJo is in hes range tho.

Also if ur gonna call river, then ur better off raising small on the turn and fold to action, then check the river.

You may be right, but I still believe that the implied odds I get in case of hitting a straight or flush are enough to make calling at least an option, despite the domination problems. I'd also love to hear different opinions on this, though.

Typically, I reload whenever I'm down by about 10BB. I don't know why I didn't do it in this case. I guess I either lost the previous hand and didn't have time to reload, or I didn't bother because I was going to end the session a few hands later anyway. Or maybe I simply forgot.
In any case, that situation obviously weakens my point about implied odds.

Not sure... I believe calling the turn would only make sense if was willing to call the river as well, for which my hand simply isn't good enough, as you pointed out.

I was wondering myself whether I could have made a raise at some point, but I feel the turn is the wrong place for it. We can't really represent anything except for maybe a set or a straight, and I don't think that's enough to make UTG+1 fold any made hands in his range.

What do you guys think about playing raise/fold on the flop? One potential problem I could imagine is that while I could probably prevent villain from betting the turn that way, I probably couldn't stop him from betting the river, in which case I would have to make a call due to the odds.

If u reraise on flop, chances are he will shove any draws he has because he has so much equity against anything. But if u reraise on the turn, he cant shove hes draws since he has much less equity now. And u can represent everything on the turn, str8, set, 2 pair. why wouldnt u?
The raise on the turn makes him pay with draws and to see free showdown. But im not a expert on this raise on the turn for free showdown thing. But its a possibility :). When the draw completed on the river, u definitly cant call now.
