Well as part of our December Santa promo you can actually win a free coaching session with me

Free Christmas Coaching from our experienced players & VIPs

All you need to do is post in there and apply stating why you think I'm so awesome :f_biggrin:

Or why you think I should stop bluff-raising the river and getting called by K-High :f_confused:

Hello!

When you talk about youtube content, do you refer to madorjan's channel ( http://www.youtube.com/user/madorjan/videos )? When I look at the boomer2k6 channel, I dont see any poker related videos?

Yup it's maddy's channel where all the shows are kept.

Mine is for gaming and stuff and I'm also part owner of Caravel Gaming with Ribbo where we do card games mainly, currently concentrating on Hearthstone but wanna get some Hex content on the channel as well when I get my new PC and maddy agrees to fight me on it :)

Had a really great coaching session last night, was pretty psyched after it despite the fact half the time I was just in awe at what Polaris was doing

http://www.justin.tv/pokerstrategy_english/b/497836022

That's the replay and I recommend you check it out and if there's any desire for me to do further content regarding GTO bots or just AI's in general I can come up with it. There are a ton more Man vs Machine hands and I can even do something like play vs Neo Bot or something similar

For those not in the know, Neo Bot is a learning exploitative bot which plays a default "exploit based on population" strategy until it learns your tendencies and then strives to exploit the crap out of you...which it does, it's pretty strong although obviously it'll start off pretty weak vs a balanced/GTO-style strategy right up until the point, about 10k hands in, where it catches up...then issues.

Hello, Boomer.

Which of the limits do you play online?

I've taken an extended break recently for personal issues but my normal online stakes are 2/4 and 3/6 although these days it's probably more like "Anything 1/2+ which looks good". Limiting yourself to a single stake can make you miss good opportunities, if the game is good and it's not an unacceptable risk you're doing yourself a disservice by avoiding it. That said I'm generally going to look at 2/4 first and then decide what to do when planning. Since not all my income is from poker sources I have a greater latitude when choosing my games.

However I'm probably going to be more into LHE HUSNGs when I make a full on comeback which I'll probably be around $15's - $30's to start off with then work on up. Been working a lot on developing my game model recently, some of which you'll see in my next video series. I team up with someone you guys may know :)

Well I guess since the Caravel Gaming Youtube Channel does a lot of Hearthstone I should play it...so I did with maddy the other night

Me: God dammit 4-3's so embarrassing
maddy: Open Your Pack, you can do better next time
Me: OK, prolly be somethign rubbish

I don't think maddy's talking to me atm....

That said WELCOME TO 2014...a month late

Lots of cool stuff going to be going down this year. New theories, new ideas and new concepts.

We're throwing out the old and welcoming in the new and probably getting very confused in the process...see the video coming next week

I'm not setting myself any concrete goals this year becasue my life's too much in fluidity at the moment but for good news I will be getting a new PC this week I believe and that PC WILL be able to live stream much better and just do more advanced GOOD STUFF than a 4 year old laptop can

I'm reminded of the scene from the Matrix with the Red and Blue Pill for this year.

You take the Blue Pill. Your journey ends, you wake up believing tight is right ABC poker beats anything over micros.

You take the Red Pill, you're staying in Wonderland, you're coming with me and with any luck I'm gonna show you how deep the rabbit hole is and how far we all still have to go.

Waiting for some updates

Hey who let these Spiders in here???

Oh yeah blog that's it, supposed to update every now and then

One of the "downsides" of the fact I discovered poker in my mid 20's is that I never had that "freedom" of playing completely full time as a student or young adult. I'm actually kind of wierd in that I committed more to poker as I got older not the usual way.

The up side of that equation is that I have a degree in Chemical and Biochemical Engineering and am a fully qualified accountant (socialising...fuck that!!) and thus occasionally also get things thrown my way, especially at Tax year end because who likes tax???

So basically been hyper busy recently which all came to a head last week when I ended up getting ill probably because I forgot I am north of 30 and can't really work 16 hour days anymore without needing to do things like sleep or talk to people or something.

That said it's definitely fun times and "lots of work" is much better than "No Work" believe me, I think "I'll be your friend" and "Pleeeeeeeeease" ceased being legal tender about 5 years ago.

That said, fun time awaiting with my new coaching on 3-betting starting Friday and I also have something for you low stakes guys planned too and I promise that if/when I do a Silver level coaching I will ban myself from using Combonator for it (If you hear weeping during the coaching IT'S YOUR FAULT!!!)

Couple of decisions I did make, I think I'm gonna start playing in some of the bigger FL MTTs this year, I've generally tended to avoid LHE MTTs as I want to stab myself in the face usually after I've played them but they were low stakes and I think the higher ones have better structures and since I can both afford the buyins and, with a busy life schedule volume is reduced, a little stab now and then can't hurt too much, pretty sure I'm +EV in those tournaments but I'll have to see the field.

Also once I've got back into Grind Mode proper and have got myself fully on track I want to start looking at 5/T+ by year's end. Although there's probably very little demand for material from that level on PS I feel like after so many years I really want to max test myself, I don't want to come to the end of my poker career. (which will happen one day I'm sure) and say "Y'know, I probably could have done better". If I burn a few k doing it, at least I tried, and I got the answer I was looking for. Tbh now, it's become more about the challenge than the $$$.

Still gonna play HUSNGs though because they're mint :)

Hope you all have a Great Easter and I may even give away a coaching in my "Third Floor Problems" coaching....just make sure you attend if you can :)

Yeah I'm definitely going to look into the SCOOP FL Events.

Wouldn't mind a nice tourney score.

Also I've just bought PT4, with the $10 discount available here because always looking for value :)

Have to say I'm impressed by it and will probably be fully switching over to it. It doesn't seem as system taxing as HEM2 and just seems a little easier to deal with and get information out of.

I believe my life's work has been completed

One of the top NL coaches on this site played a HUFL SNG "for fun"

He then played some more and even sent me HH's

I may not get there with ya but this made me happy :f_biggrin: :f_biggrin:

Haven't posted on the forum in a while and also with the end of my previous coaching session I've been pretty absent the last two weeks:

This has probably been a good thing overall because I currently have a decision to make.

Last week I was informed by e-mail, similar to the way HollyMichelle was here, that I have been deemed surplus to requirements as the EN Poker School Coordinator (citing "More Commitment Needed") and as of the end of the month after nearly 4 years with PS as a coach and 18 months as the EN Poker School Coordinator I am now back just to my regular coaching role

To be honest, it's not a big shock to me that I've lost the work I've done here, although I am surprised what has gone. I'd have put my mortgage on FL coaching going first as that's been diminished vastly in recent times so I always felt it was what was going to be on the chopping block

So now what's the plan?

Well I am a fully qualified accountant so therefore secured myself a contract job pretty quickly and from there we just go into the future and with my life it's pretty hard to gauge what's going to happen 1 week from now, never mind 4-5 months :)

I'm enjoying the work I do with CaravelGaming and we'll be at the Magic: The Gathering GP in Manchester this weekend, possibly even doing a live stream so that will continue.

The only thing currently left in doubt for me is my coaching role at PokerStrategy.com. I have to admit, there's a part of me that wants to just sever ties completely, maybe even with the entirety of poker as a whole and be done with it.

But there's a much bigger part of me that still loves the game, love teaching it and wants to stay around.

However this has been a pretty hurtful experience in recent times and, outside of maybe a video introducing HU play, I think I'm going to take at least a month away from PokerStrategy.com completely and collect my thoughts. I may not be back, but then again I may be back better than ever

I'll let you know how it turns out...

Boomer has worked so hard for our community and now to be honest im a little mad at the company for not appreciating what Boomer has done. I know how much load it put on him personally.

I admire Boomer for this dedication to his work with Poker Strategy. I am just so happy that Boomer and I have been good friends and talk regularly. This guy is one of a kind and I of course will support him wherever he goes.
