Hi mblm,

I am trying to decide where I want to go with poker. I am playing midstakes at the moment (NL200-NL2k, NL400 on average). I tried to play ZOOM, but it seems this is not my forte. I think I have an edge on NL200, but am probably breakeven on NL500.

I take it you know a lot of other poker players, may I ask If you know someone who is successful at non zoom games, has an hourly of $200+ and keeps a blog.

Pre Flop: ($0.24) Hero is BTN with XY
5 folds, Hero raises to $0.40, 1 fold, BB raises to $1.28, What would be your 4bet bluff range?

How can I calculate my bluff 4bet range in similar case against reg? What is the formula? :f_smile:

i don't know... and honestly zoom is almost the same as normal poker for mid-stakes and high-stakes. Not sure why people keep insisting that there's a huge difference. Almost everyone multi-tables at Stars anyway and you'll get almost the same dynamic.

This guy folds 90% to 4-bets so you should just 4-bet him every single time he 3-bets you until he adjusts. If you make it 2X, you would need around 55-60% fold equity to breakeven and you are printing money in this spot against this guy

Which do you think is better for 3b bluffing in and out of position, blockers or playability? And as such what would you 3b bluff CO or btn v MP hands like 97s , AJo or A5s

My approach is that the more villain calls 3bets the more I should have hands with good playability. If villain 4bets more often than calls then I prefer blockers. Playability is only useful if villain calls our 3bets and we go postflop. If villain only 4bets or folds then it doesn't make sence to bluff with a hand like 97s.

what mesification said makes sense but the truth is that if you want to come up with some solid frequencies it's really hard to memorize so many different ranges to use.

I'll probably look towards having a good mix of different types of hands.

any difference between playing 60bb-75bb and 100bb stacks against opponents on postflop?

it depends on how the SPR changes. I would usually end up using a smaller raise size to deal with such players so the SPR on the Flop would usually be very similar and I don't think I'll change my ranges too much.

Perhaps the postflop bet size might be slightly different, but other than that I don't think anything else should be too different. If I were playing with a 40bb stack then things should differ much more

What is the shortest time, in that you can beat micro up to low? In your opinion.

Hey bro,

How would you construct your 3b ranges against a villain that calls all pps, even when oop? So we're in CO 3betting UTG for example.

I'm doing quite well 3betting and cbetting boards with high cards; and recently tweaked my 3 bluff range to include more broadways in this situation so if they get sticky I have 6 outs to the (likely) best hand over something like 67s. But what about 3betting TT/JJ? With those I might even be able to get 2 streets of value on low boards against some opponents. Or do you think they still work better as calls ip?

Thanks

edit: calls pps and doesn't 4b bluff. So his defending range is something like: 4b AA/KK; call 22+/AK and sometimes AQ

And about defending 3bets. If we fold 100% our w/r is -3bb/hand. When facing a 3bet my w/r is -0.6bb/hand so I'm doing better than folding, in your opinion is this a reasonable loss rate? Or should I review hh to try find some more profitable spots?

(I play nl20 btw)

Pls don't ask me such questions, or questions like how much I would be able to make in micros, or my expected WR etc.

I have no idea ...

@holmeboy:

First Question

The best way to counter someone flatting 22-66 is to 3bet more medium pairs like TT/99. A hand like KQ isn't an equity favourite against a pocket pair. If someone is flatting many non-paired hands, then it makes sense to 3bet some stronger high card hands.

Example: KQo > medium suited connectors

Second Question

If you are losing -0.6bb/100 you are doing really well. It probably means you are not defending enough (your weakest defending hands should be indifferent between calling and folding).

Example: You only call 88-TT and AQs vs a 3bet
These hands are so strong that naturally, your loss rate against a 3b is going to be pretty good. So think about defending KQs/AQo/AJs, 77-55 as well, or perhaps even wider.

Thank you sir. It all makes perfect sense.

There is less fish and the regs are much stronger. People are able to play huge volumes due to the ZOOM format, so the edges are very small. I think you get the point. Poker is poker, zoom or regular...but the opponents are different.
