Personal info

Hi. I'm 27 years old and working as a school teacher on a primary school. I have a wife and 1 son of 1,5 years old. Poker has always been a hobby but because of the birth of my son I had to quit poker for a while. I recently opened my old blog, but that didn't succeed too well.

Poker
I've played around 500k hands and playing a home game every thursday. I recently deposited 15$ on Pokerstars and made it to 75$ dollar. Currently my bankroll is $96 dollar.

Today i've bought Pokertracker and changed my name in my old hand histories because I wanted a fresh start with fresh new goals.

I will use this blog to write down my thoughts after a review or a potential tilt.

Theory

  • I have read the most importent pokerbooks
  • I watch the pokerstrategy videos (at least 1 per day)
  • I review my sessions (earlier with leakbuster now with leaktracker)
  • I use the handposting forums when i'm unsure with a hand

You sound like a man on a mission. I do like your idea of starting fresh. You have probably changed since the birth of your child (babies tend to do that).

My new start

Hey lately i've emcumbered (if thats a word) myself with poker theory. Every day i've been watching video's, reading articles and handposts. I've also read a couple of pokerbooks. So last two days I was confident because I can beat NL2 and my sessions had a gigantic winrate but were way too long, after 1000 hands my winrate started to drop (see the first graph) and yesterday i was up $8 dollar and dropped to -0,45

After the review yesterday I saw I've lost a LOT of money because of bad play and even though I thought I was playing ok I really was playing bad. I've made bad bluffs and called when my gut said I shouldn't.

Cause

My main problem is I find it hard too pull the brakes when I'm running good. After about 1,5 too 2 hours my play starts to deteriorates (if that's a word) and i'm slightly tilting. The main cause for this is that last year i've been diagnosed with an attention disorder and concentrating too long takes too much energy. This has nothing to do with my intelligence, but when i'm at low energy stopping myself is really hard even though I know i'm loosing. This is my main leak. That's why I needed to make some strict guidelines.

My sessions now can not take any longer then 1,5-2 hours. When I'm feeling I'm playing my B-game I need to quit the session.

Solution

Even though my sessions will be shorter I will have some more time to evaluate and relax, wich will in return build up my energy level etc. During my review I've found a couple of leaks.

Leaks

  • Before a Blindsteal look at the FTS ratio and after a 3-bet be carefull with continuing play
  • Keep watching pot odds when drawing
  • Don't always contibet (look at F to C-bet ratio)
  • Trust my gut and fold when I think I'm beat

These leaks are on a post-it on my computer. Now on the third day of my new blog I was on a good run again during the first half of my gameplay. I was able to make a BB/100 of 82 over 748 hands. After reviewing I've folded when I needed to and hardly made any mistakes.

I know I can make a BB/100 between 10 - 20 on NL2 (with tilting in between). Before moving up to NL5 I want to play at least 10 days in a row with 0% tilts while keeping to my session limit rule.

My current bankroll is $103 atm, not bad since I started less then a month ago with $15...

Anyway I won't move up to NL5 when i'm at $120 since I'm working on my play at the moment.

Personal..

My wife is pregnant again and tomorrow were going for the first echo! :f_biggrin: I'm sooo curious, since last pregnancy wasn't really what we've hoped for (but my son is doing great now).

I'm still teaching kids 4 days in a row and will put my university master plans on a hold for 1 year. I want to concentrate on the pregnancy and want to go up the limits.

My main goal is to have a $1k BR by the end of this year.

Hey moharith,

Sometimes you need to take a breath and let it all sink in. You were close, the word you seek is emcumbered.

I struggle to play because of lack of energy (I'm old and unhealthy) and when I do play when I feel like that my play deteriorates (the other word) fairly quickly.

You are right in the fact that you need to be able to recognise when to stop a session. If I start on a heater, then I just keep getting looser and looser until it starts to become obvious.

And congrats to you and your wife. :]

I don't know how it happened but I tilted to the max! ♠_cry: :f_cry:..

I was gold member today :] had a 100$ bankroll :] (after grinding NL2 for 1,5 month) but took some bad beats.. (i've been griding ok since 2 months)..

Then I decided to join NL25 zoom! ... When I had 110$ I decided to join NL100 zoom!

Then I went all in with KK.. and now my bankroll is 15$

:f_mad: I really messed it up..

My play is okay over the long run.. but my tilt messes it up soo much.. i think its better to quit for now :(

I took some NL5 shots that worked out okay. Had $15 dollar on a NL5 table, went all in with TT at a TA88 board, but villain had AA.. That was the start of the tilt.

Have been playing poker and studying theory every day now for the last 2 months.. (played each day for about 2 hours) ...

Oh no :( So sorry to hear that :(

Take a break, that's all I can say. Don't deposit more money that you can't afford to spend on this at the moment. When you have some spare money again that you could deposit and once you've got your mind cleared again, then maybe go for it again and give it another shot.

That's about the only advice I can give right now! In the meantime maybe it would be worth it to read a book like The Mental Game of Poker? Perhaps that could help with avoiding further tilt issues in the future.

Hopefully we'll see you back in the grind soon, and hopefully we'll see you crush then :f_cool:

But like I said, don't rush things, get your mind and money straight first :)
