Heh technical things are now trying to kick my ass so to speak. For some reason PT4 now has problems with filtering hud stats based on player amount. Pokerstars on other hand wants to add final table theme into 9max stt sng games... Which is bit annoying as it becomes bit harder to recognize if its 9man or 18man final table.

Great video! Love to get to see a topreg playing some of his daily routine. And I want MORE MORE MORE _grin:

Your English was quite rusty at the beginning but quickly got better and better and I had no problem understanding.

Good luck reaching SNE

The timing for the video was great as I have a couple of days to rebuild a multitabling setup.

A couple of things I've always found strange are:
1) not switching all animation off (doesn't it prevent the eyes from extra strain, as well as speed the computer up?)
2) having the preferred seat at a totally different place at a Fifty50 table from a 6-max one (that must result in extra eye movement; I get the point that it's easier to distinguish one table type from the other in a smaller fraction of a second this way, but placing the 10-max preferred seat at 5 o'clock does the trick too).

Year 2014, The First Half

So it's half point of the year now. My original idea was to have 600k VPP at this point. Well reality is quite far from it as I now have around 400k VPP. But still it could be worse and I don't see this situation bad spot to start second half :)

Some data:

Games: 22025
Played: 622 hours
EV prerb: 2896$
Prerb: -5631$
Postrb: 35491$
Bonuses: Couple k$ from BoP bonuses, no specific info.
$/h: Around 60$/h

So roughly estimated I have played around 3650 games per month which is decent. But there is still lot of space to improve. These days I can play with normal day (two sessions) quite easily 250-300 games per day. So if assuming e.g. 20 of such days in month it will already sum into 5k+ games month. So it just requires motivation to grind and "only sky is the limit" :f_biggrin:

From results side I cannot be very happy, but still it has went decently. Around 40€ per hour (accounting hours outside of tables) is still pretty nice hourly salary. Of course with bit better run and more active grinding it could be much higher also, but at least there is space to improve.

So next the mandatory giraffe (red is EV, green is prerb results and yellow is postrb results):

So as it can be seen my results has been quite breakeven (prerb wise) for the year. Some serious digging and upswings here and there. Well reality is that it's relatively tough to find lot of edge versus players in these games when playing 30 tables and four different structures. Still if I can achieve SNE and keep my prerb results close to breakeven I am going to be happy results wise :)

So how does it look for second half of the year? I need 600k VPP more. Personally I have always had bad habit to leave things for the last moment. E.g. in school previous evening was good to study for exam and if some report had to be made in 3 weeks it could clearly be done with tomorrow.

Now the clear fact is that I need to make 100k per month. So I will target more than 100k for July. Though I have planned that before in this year already now it starts be mandatory. This project work cannot be left into last moment so this month I am going to do it for real, dammit!

Month so far: 4520 VPP

Thanks :)

I will see if I make something some other time. Any hopes what you would like to see? :)

Thanks for feedback. I could try to change position. I doubt those animations have much effect. I don't really see them most of time.

Pretty solid results considering you are 30-tabling, would be awesome if you can stay at least BE when u reach SNE. Good luck with the rest of your chase and see you at the tables!

Lets put bit of update for the project in form of giraffe:

Relatively close to 500k VPP currently. So there will be decent amount of work for end of the year. 110k months on average or so. Has been some volume problems in summer as games seems to be running somewhat badly. But have been moving my sessions bit later time.

Would not mind to see bit of upswing though. Pretty ok with EV side, but being almost 13k$ below it starts to be bit ugly. But yeah variance wise with small EV ROI it's nothing unexpected.

Hi ghaleon, your blog is very inspiring! But... where is some update? It's more than two months without this. How your progress with SNE? Do you have problems with volume after add by P* Spin@Go's? I see that now our games are very tough and has really small traffic by this shitty format. I'm afraid about future with SnG's... Maybe fishes, when will not hitting a higher prize pool so often, then will leave this format, hmm it's very hopeful.

I am also waiting for updates Ghaleon but I assume you are too busy with SNE chase.
Look forward for end of the year update.

Have been blogging in different site recently. I currently have around 620-630k VPP so lot of work left to do.

My table selection is loose enough to not have took that big hit from spin&go. Of course games getting tougher is always bad thing for those playing them. But my current settings in sharkystrator accepts 6max game with 4 regs (not including me) and 1 random. In 9max its around 6 regs and in fifty50 I think its 7 regs. Depending a bit on what color I have given for each reg.

Here is graph for the year so far. It could be better, but I am relatively ok with results so far. Now this is with SNE rakeback. If I am unable to make it rakeback will take some 6-10% hit, which currently would mean that postrakeback profits would in reality be around 43-45k$ + couple k$ from battle of planet bonuses.

Around same as my profits from previous year. Not sure how playing hours are this year compared to previous, but those are currently probably quite close to each other. Made 400k vpp in 2013, but I have also been multitabling lot more and higher limits.

Will make accurate report of different formats and bin limits at end of the year or when I have achieved "millionth vpp". I can promise that if I get that one you will not see me in tables for the rest of the year. At least if you dont somehow end up in same live table in Oulu :f_p:

Why do you care about essentially 'play money' games in Oulu (with the prizes being restaurant discounts and rating points only, afaik)? Why don't you go to one of the two legal places for real money live poker in Finland - Casino Helsinki (the other being PAF Casino in Marienhamn on the Aland Islands)? Or has real money live poker been allowed elsewhere in Finland?

Yes closest place to play real money live poker legally is Helsinki. But to make bit of reality check: How likely it's for someone wanting to play some hours of live poker to go to Helsinki (600 km distance to one direction)? Very unlikely I would say. To have any sort of sense in such move you would need to plan at least couple days trip. Travel expenses, hotels, food and such are not that cheap unless you have some place to live in. E.g. some friend/relative there.

So how it works in practise? There are quite a few private live games going on that I know of and lot more of those that I have no idea. Also we have had public real money poker games in local bar for 3-4 years more than once in a week on average. Most visiting in that bar knows games are for real money. Have there been problems with law? Nothing. So laws itself are just words scribbled on paper, if they are not forced in action. Now bar itself or anyone involved are not collecting any rake, but obviously those games bring more customers and more income for the bar. So pretty much everyone benefits from this in practise.

Games itself are just small buy-in like between 5-20€ sng mostly. So it's more about having some live poker for joy now and then and not about making money. Like for me I have over 50$ avg bin in online games so in one session I use like 10k$ in bins overall.

My point is that online games are drying up, so it may be worthwhile to move to a city with decent live games... Helsinki itself is too expensive, but maybe some suburb is OK.

I'm standing better in this respect, as I have no visa or language barrier with Minsk (a city that's very cheap for expats) that has an MTT club and 5 casinos with NL and PLO (0.5/1-5/5 run regularly, 5/10-10/20 - on occasion) :f_love:

I doubt games would go that bad. Though if different countries start to tax and limit player pools then it might be bigger danger.

With SNE rakeback it should be with good expectation to make more than 100k$ next year. For me that sort of money is still huge. Not sure how much one can do in live side on average as played hand amount is obviously just fraction of what its online and rake tend to be somewhat big in live?

Happy birthday and Halloween! Let your grind be a nightmare for your opponents, not for you! (You have to outplay all of them with the recent Stars changes.)

A big wrap-up of the first 30 years of your life and success would be a nice read, it's quite an important milestone, I don't know how I'll feel when approaching it and looking back :f_eek:

Sorry for not continuing the talk about life play... I was talking about venues with reasonable rake (like 3% capped at $75 for midstakes; iirc, the Helsinki rake is bearable too)... even then, the profit highly depends on the will of particular fishes (what stakes they're willing to play and how often they're going to show up), and it's typically mid 2 figures per hour, so the monthly profit isn't as spectacular as hardcore online grinders have had in 2014... the problem of course is that the online field is drying up, governments and poker sites have shown a tendency to squeeze out profit in every way they can, and the current players' profit from online poker is unsustainable, I'm afraid.

Have now around 740k VPP. So need to make around 6k on average on every day for remaining year. So bit of grinding still needed. But it helps quite a lot that I dropped table selection completely and mainly playing just 60$+ turbo games. So just maximizing VPP production and during two sessions so far I have got around 1.2k VPP per hour.
