Thanks for the replies guys! I'm now looking 100% into my game and every hand i play per session.

I just played a session where i marked every single hand I went into a big pot with and am going to post all of them on the sample forum in the next couple of days. (except the ridiculously obvious ones)

Even plays I think are standard shall be posted for discussion as i look to totally revamp and improve my game one hand at a time.

On a Side Note;
I think I may be doing so badly at NL200 because I've had to pretty much throw table selection out the window otherwise i wouldn't even be able to play any. Because there are so few tables I have to pretty much sit down at tables with regulars and whilst the pot avg and vpip is still big they know how to play SSS players much more effectively than players on NL100 and tighten up their range specifically for me. Their 3bet% is large but not against "that tight SSer playing JJ+ AK+".

In short, I'm facing better, more adaptive opponents and i have possibly not been able to comprehend thus far how much i have to change my play and tighten up my play to beat them.

i have to change my play and tighten up my play to beat them.

you have to change your approach, imo)

when you are struggling with a limit, its always about approach)
stop just trying to grind it, instead learn it)

what i recommend:

1) datamine it heavily) with HM you really can take advantage of having stats in FR games)
2) Get yourself table selection software and make a buddy list of extremely aggressive players and calling stations
2.1) Reduce number of table to 6 for some time. Its imo better to be a winning player playing 6 tables, then be a losing 16tabler)
2.2) get yourself an equity chart and practice playing optimal equity game) easy to do when you have HM and database)

3) find a guy who plays the same limit and learn with him) You can do a lot of stuff, like sweating each other or commenting recorded sessions
4) record a vid of your nl 200 session and post it on the forum) i can review your session if you want and if you can record it)
5) rewatch all nl 200 vids
6) take advantage of knowledge base on this forum) use search and reread all the great strategy posts)
7) spam sample hand forum)

and stay positive))
good luck)

well I only play on Nl100 Party atm so can't help you on 200 although some players play on both limits at the same time ;)

Thanks for your tips Xylere, I understand now that its not just a matter of playing for twice as much $ than before. Didn't think it would be so hard when i moved up, hence I've decided to relearn everything basic upwards :) I've actually already started with some of your suggestions and i will post for any of my readers who are interested;

  1. I am datamining as much as possible right now. gained 50k hands (several limits, not just $1/$2) in the last 4 days.
  2. I Do not know anything about table selection software! What do I have to look out for? PartyPoker has max 12 tables available at one time, normally no more than 4 with above 10BB avg pot. So far I have just been playing on these 4 tables and leaving when vpip < 18. How much will Tableselection Software help when i have such limited tables numbers?
    At the moment I highlight sources of money with a green tag with hem HUD, sources of trouble in red.
    2.1) When I started playing NL200 i was playing 4 tables with 5 tables of NL100 at the same time. I shall cut my table n0's down even more for the moment.
    2.2) I've been using Pokerstove to make my own equity calculations so far, but I shall print off Xarry's full equity chart for easier use from now on.
  3. Who else plays NL200 SSS here? :P Gerv Soon I'm guessing ;) Then we can review each others sessions etc
  4. How do I record a video of my play?
  5. Frequently rewatch NL100+ SSS vids anyways but looking into NL200 vids in more detail now. They are all highly useful.
  6. Havn't read through the NL Strategy Section of the forum in a long time, so this is a definate must do.
  7. This Is something i must continue to do, I let up with my posts recently, but I'm back with a vengeance now ;)

The last point is the hardest bit Thinking about how well i managed to do at NL100 in the end should help I think (+$1k), Knowing that many of my losses are to inferior starting hands also helps me to think positively.

The Main Thing I want to do is make a video though. What do i do to make one?

I think sweats are better if you are short of time because you get direct feedback, because makign Vids takes a whole afternoon + probably an evening for Rendering..

If you come on Skype regularly, we can talk abit more in detail :)

to make a video, either use Camtasia or Camstudio (google/bittorrent them) - make sure to record the video in .avi (it's somewhere in the settings), it'll save lotsa time. Then tell me and I can host it as streaming video, it'll make it more accessible to people who could help =)

Thanks Swiss, I'll get round to a video or two Asap, but first;

DaPhunk Is No Longer NL200 + A Handy Tip!

Yes, thats right I am not playing NL200 anymore. Its just too much for me. Why? Not enough BI! Thats where my handy tip comes in! ;

DaPhunks Handy Tip;

  • If you are on a bit of a downswing do not play poker as soon as you wake up(5 am)!!! You will get coolered ;)

I woke up about an hour and a half ago and decided that i was not going to be able to sleep any longer. I decided it would be a good time to print off Xarry's Equity Charts and practice playing a perfect equity game on NL50 and NL100, So thats what I did!

The tables were surprisingly juicy and i settled down playing 4 tables of NL100 and 5 tables of NL50. I thought that i made some nice decisions without making any major mistakes (except one misclick costing me $4), I also tried check/raising 2 freeplay flushdraws (both with 1 Overcard, one with gutshot also) against some Aggressive villains thinking i would gain more FE and force them to make a mistake more often.

For almost every hand i was calculating my equity needed and using the charts to look up what equity I thought i had against a range. As with almost every session since my downswing started, I was sure that On average I would be up by some $.

However, This is what actually happened;

I lost $200.... Every time I isolated an MP2 fish and pushed with my pair of Aces A9s, he had ATo. When I push against the 40 ATS villain with 99 he shows TT. When i push the rest of my inital 27BB stack on Turn against 50/5 Calling station with my QQ he has KK. When I push my KK on a low card flop villain has a set of 8's etc....

Its so easy to blame Variance, But i know thats not the way forwards. I have to focus on the fact that If my game had been Perfect I would have a few Hundred $ more in my roll and eliminate my mistakes. I still can't help feeling that I've been on a constant cooler for the last 15k hands though... Can't remember the last time my Won Showdown % was above 60.

To relieve some of this pressure I shall be grinding my mini roll on stars for 2 days and forgetting about the stress of my ever decreasing Party Roll.

Good luck at the tables all! I will put off updates for a couple more days so that anyone who wishes can catch up with the action

DaPhunk Thinks PokerStars Likes Him More Than PartyPoker!

Its "All in" the title. My break from Partypoker to use my new $100 at Pokerstars has somewhat surprisngly gone extremely well. Only a couple of Badbeats and I've had plenty of calls from weak hands where I myself have won, I even sucked out myself A couple of times against Higher Monsters. I'll let my Graph do the talking though :)

Oh, on a side note; Pretty strangely Pokerstars put a couple of terrible hands all-in for me without my clicking. Twice now a table has popped up saying "Run out of Chips" When I havn't myself put any hands all-in recently on ANY of my tables. The 2nd time this happened I looked at the HH and was horrified to see something along the lines of this;

Hero (SB) Starting Hand; 7 :heart:9 :club:

BU raise to $1.25, Hero Raises to $4.95 (All-in)

What the ????? I would never do that! Anyone got any ideas how this could have happened? I don't need to use my keyboard to any way play on Pokerstars So It can't be that. Its really disconcerting me how this could have happened.

Meanwhile I'm still running horribly At PartyPoker. I guess I'll just stick with it and hope that i hit an upswing eventually, whilst continuing to memorise more and more of the equity charts.

I'm Also going to make some test videos in the coming days, starting with NL25, Followed by NL50 and when I'm then confident I'm not going to crash out of my games or freeze up I'll do a $0.5/1 video.

GL at the tables and such. Pretty scenic picture coming next update so stay tuned!

hmmm, I'll e-mail support if it happens again. I didn't save the HH or anything so i don't have anything to show them.

Brief Update, I played a 350 hand session of NL200 today it went horribly. I got my chips in with 5 hands and lost every single one.

1) KK - Pushed On Flop as overpair. Beaten by set of 6's.
2) AK - Pair of kings on flop. Beaten by Backdoor two pair. J9!!!!!
3) KK - All-in on Q high flop. Opponent called with AQ and hit A on turn.
4) KK*
5) QQ - restolen by a8o, A on flop.

here is KK*;

Party Poker
No Limit Holdem Ring game
Blinds: $1/$2
9 players
Converter

Pre-flop: (9 players) Hero is MP3 with K♥ K♠
4 folds, Hero raises to $8, CO folds, Button calls, 2 folds.

Flop: 3♥ 6♦ 8♣ ($19, 2 players)
Hero bets $12, Button calls.

Turn: Q♣ ($43, 2 players)
Hero is all-in $17, Button calls.

River: Q♠ ($43, 1 player + 1 all-in - Main pot: $43)

Results:
Final pot: $43
Hero shows Kh Ks
Button shows Qh Qd

This is just more of the same from before (only a bit worse). Hands I thought That I'd won somehow getting owned. Makes it hard to think straight....

From Flicking through my HH's It now seems more so than before that the hands i thought I'd played terribly where actually decent ones up against miraculous two-pairs, retarded draws that hit etc. I was losing so much I think I got a bit carried way being overly critical of myself.

Of course, I'm not saying I don't have a lot of work to do on my game, Just that I took the cash evaporating out of my roll too much to heart.

DaPhunk Is Going CRAZEEE!

Only A quick Update Because i have little time.

1. I'm sorting out some things I need to do before I go to Switzerland next week.

2. As I now have much free time apart from this, I am absolutely going for the great Chase promotion. The Leaderboard has just been updated and I lie in 5th, MILES behind the top spot! I need to spend Every waking minute playing!

I achieved 812 Partypoints yesterday towards the promotion. Here is my graph for the duration of the promotion so far;

I am so motivated to do well in this Challenge. I really feel like I have to win, which will be hard as the guy in top spot must be an absolutely nuts insomniac looking how far ahead he is!

Gl at the tables etc. I will let you know how many PartyPoints I generate per day, with mini-updates.

Hi, I would like to know how many tables at once, which limit and how many hours dayli are you going for during the promo?

Thanks for Asking Alland. To answer your questions;

1) As Many Tables as possible up to the maximum of 18.
2) As Many Tables as possible on NL100. When These run out I add some extra NL50 and occasionally some NL25 tables into the mix also If I can't get Any more on the higher limits.
3) I structure myself to play four 1.5 - 2 hour sessions per day for the duration of the promo. Seeing How far behind I am I may play even more though. Every Day including Sunday.

Some Extra information for you; I am constantly checking to see If i can add more tables, and I am constantly using Alt+Tab to scroll through tables to check that i haven't timed out on any of them. To make sure I stay +Ev I stay away from Marginal Situations such as complicated stealing scenarios and play a very simple game. If I am unsure on a play I will make a weak fold. (within reason)

Mark,

I dont want to spoil the fun but I saw the following sentence written by you:

When These run out I add some extra NL50 and occasionally some NL25 tables into the mix also If I can't get Any more on the higher limits.

https://secure.partyaccount.com/pc/pc_details_earnpoints.do

And I quote:

Raked hands played on separate stakes will not be added
Raked hands played on different tables of the same stake will be added.

Example: If you play 18 hands on a $.50/$1.00 limit table and 22 hands on a $2.00/$4.00 limit table, you will earn 11 points (for the 20 at $2.00/$4.00).

Therefore I dont know if it's point-wise good to play on lower limits for the sake of points

But good luck with the promotion, see your doing well :)

thanks for da answer daphunk :-)

I consider temporary moving my roll to party and give it a shot next week, but I am not sure yet. usually play nl25-nl50SH, but if I want to win anything I would definitely have to play nl100 for the week. I have taken shots at nl100, but I am no regular.

and I have nothing to do next week which is also a +

what do you think? any advice?

alland if you play now NL25-50 and only tried NL100 few hands grinding like crazy for promo is probably bad idea.

Cheers gerv and others who wish me luck. To respond to your statement I still like the fact that despite a reduced n0 of points at lower limits, they still add to my point total. I feel even if they give me fewer points than I get at NL100 its still better than nothing! I need every single point i can get

p.s. Alland I'm only able to grind like this on NL100 because I'm so used to it and I have a large number of Buy-Ins for it. I suggest that if you transfer your roll to grind a Limit you're used to.
Back in august when Partypoker had a similar but daily leaderboard I got money from that just by playing NL25FR SSS so NL50 SH may well be able to get you enough points for a small prize :)
