Hello,

I want to start to play HU. Starting with the 1$ HU Sng (Pokerstars) and building up so that I can maybe play later HU cash.

I have some questions:
- Starting with 50$, is that enough? (non-turbo HU SnG, I have played poker in the past)
- Is Hu SnG the best choice if you want to play later HU cash?
- Are there here in the forum HU players? Blogs?
- Are there websites/persons who stake?
- What are the best books?

thnx

winnerke 123, greetings!

You are where I was a while ago.
1. My best guess is that $50 [USD] is probably enough to start playing HUSNGs [regular speed] , but note I have not played on Stars, just the i-poker network.

2. I am not sufficiently qualified to answer about HU cash. The great difference is that, in cash, you can just walk away if you are feeling bad.

3. If you look, you will find many blogs here by successful HU cash players, and by HUSNG hyperturbo players. I am not aware of any blogs by expert regular speed or turbo HUSNG players - but I may have missed something.

4. If you google on the subject, yes, you will find websites out there which specialise in the HUSNG format.

5. I am not aware of any specialised HUSNG books - you will find several that are good on cash - I have often heard Will Tipton's name mentioned in this context.

Comment.

Please note that these are not the words of an expert. In my opinion, HUSNGSs are a field where Pokerstrategy.com is currently weak. There are no dedicated strategy articles. There are a number of videos, which you may find helpful, but there is no coherent, integrated educational model for PS members to follow. The site has a partnership with the specialised site husng.com, which provided us with some of those videos, but the partnership is intermittent, rather than being visibly active.

If you look on YouTube, you will find a lot of free educational material out there, which will be helpful - provided always that the rest of your life gives you the time to take advantage of it.

Never forget that the hyperturbo format is a different game from regular and turbo.

I have my own blog for regular speed HUSNGs, but I would not describe it as educational.

Hi winnerke123,

I'm not very knowledgeable about HU games and can't answer many of your questions, but I'll answer a couple for you.
I would think 50 buy-ins is a good bankroll to start at the HU SnG's.
There are tons of HU players here and you can find hands being reviewed in the hand evaluation forums.

Glopslart has a blog that you may find interetsing: https://forums.pokerstrategy.com/forum/thread.php?threadid=279427

I hope this helps - and good luck at the tables.

EDIT: Too funny - I had started my response before Glopslart answered... Thanks Glop!

Thanx for the response !
For the moment I play with 5$ (not deposit the 50$), but with 5$ it's difficult :f_biggrin: If it don't work, still possible to deposit 50$, but at least I could try with 5$

Indead, It's difficult to find some information. In the past I was always staked, and that worked better for me. Now it's difficult to find the mistakes, to learn, ... . There is no much information for the HU SNG (non-turbo). But I will search some video's and blogs and let's hope it will work

$5 is not enough on its own. Either deposit, or play freerolls till you have enough. This site has excellent materials on how to play MTTs, and freeroll MTTs in particular.

Hey Dazalef,

Personal abuse of fellow PokerStrategists is unnecessary and a breach of our forum principles.

I have deposit, so I don't understand what's the problem?
I just asked some questions about the HU poker. Not a personal abuse

Hey winnerke123,

You may want to check out ragney's HU hypers blog

As for HU cash, just look through the Your Poker Blogs and Successes and challenges boards.

Anything with Gordon, GordonGekko or Raskolnikov in the title. These will all be HU cash apart from I think one 6 max player.

You can also check out Raskolnikov (GordonGekko) in his Champions Stand Up One More Time Than the Rest video series.

Have fun

Laz
