4bet pot with AKs

Hey everyone,

No stats on villain. After his 4bet I put him on a general range of KK+,AK, maybe QQ, AQ and bluffs.
On the flop I thought he may want to c/r shove his overpairs so I take the free card with my FD. Turn is standard I guess.

On the river I obviously have many AK, AQ in my range so it may not be the best place for him to bluff however he can get me to fold my KK, QQ, JJ. For value I only see him play AA this way.
Is this an easy call on the river?

We may not 3 bet pre but just call. We may 3 bet.it is up to your style of play.
Postflop is ok.

I also agree with calling PF as default play.

As played postflop I like it.

really good analysis of a 4bet pot situation considering the stake

also considering the stake i give him less credit for check raising overpairs but maybe i'm wrong, overall i would say people play face up trying to shovel the money and their checking range is weak but it's certainly not out of the question

My standard play would be to call preflop. When we 3bet, I guess we cant fold to 4bet, but could we 5bet instead of call? On the flop nothing worse will call, so I like checking back and we need to call the turn because he could have some worse hands (preflop bluffs) and we have a nut flushdraw. The river is a call because he has alot of worse Ax in his preflop 4bet range.

In a 4bet pot villains play straight forward and will bet their overpairs.

Thank you guys for the replies and I'm glad you like the way I played it!

Is flatting with AKs pre really the standard play here? I think he has so many small pocket pairs, broadway hands I dominate or just hands he'll fold that it's better to 3bet IP.

I personally have no idea what they're talking about. You have literally the top left corner of possible hands preflop. Of course 3bet and call a 4bet (not sure if it's a pot sized 4bet - probably still call). I mean these guys must just not have a 3bet in position strategy. I have no clue. The only possible explanation is that they are mixing it up with 5betting or flatting.

Maybe they think you should be calling a ton of hands here and need protection with a hand like AKs but theoretically the blinds should be squeezing very wide if you are going to call very wide. I know this doesn't happen at the micros but if you're trying to be correct then you should really have a tight calling range preflop to defend against squeezes and then have a thought out 3betting strategy (that includes AKs of course). I really have completely no clue why you would be scared of getting 4bet here.

COvsMP I prefer to call AKs. As you said we may be facing small pokets and broadways vs which postflop we have excellent chances and we will dominate them. And if we 3 bet, most of them will fold...

please tell me you mistyped something here...

you're saying you don't like to have much of a 3bet strategy here because if you do they will fold preflop and you will win money?

yeah i read it. i even quoted it. you think calling will win you more than 4.5bbs postflop. oh i see so the player is drawing dead preflop and he can only put in money bad postflop out of position.

do you have a 3betting strategy here? i mean what is it?

I think the main reason here is, that we usually think about 3bet with AK as about value 3bet. Problem is that its´probably not profitable to stack off AK preflop CO vs MP. So you can be in difficult spot when you facing 4bet. But often there are many situation when 3beting is actually the best play - for example you know that villain 4bet 1 % range (KK+) and calling 3bet a lot OOP. Then it´s OK to 3bet here and we have easy fold vs 4bet. Another example is when MP is shortstack and/or maniac and we can stack off profitably.

If the point of 3betting was to go all in, then why not 3bet all in with your 3bet range?

Can anyone give me what they are 3betting in position roughly (this exact spot if you really need to be specific). I'm really curious as to how it's possible that it's going to look halfways presentable. If you are folding AKs to a 4bet then are you only continuing with AA and KK?

very viable strategy in microlimits tbh

The problem is that MP often will stack off with KK+. vs that range we have 23% equity.
Some MP will stack off with QQ+, AK and here we have 41.90% equity. It is not ok to stack off vs that range either.
