Full Tilt, $0.02/$0.05 No Limit Hold'em Cash, 5 Players

BB: $8.81 (176.2 bb)
MP1: $7.36 (147.2 bb)
MP2: $3.80 (76 bb)
Hero (CO): $5.70 (114 bb)
BTN: $5.15 (103 bb)

Preflop: Hero is CO with Q A
MP1 folds, MP2 raises to $0.15, Hero calls $0.15, BTN folds, BB raises to $0.50, MP2 calls $0.35, Hero ?

Notes:

BB is 18% VPIP, 13.1% PFR, 2.3% 3Bet
Having checked in equilab after the fact, my AQs has only 36% equity vs top 2.3% of hands (TT+, AKs)
Correct to fold?

I believe BB is squeezing a bit wider than 2.3%. I would 3bet AQs myself pre. As played I would call.

Guys with tight 3 bet stats are not a wide squeezers, you know.
I do not see a reason to 3 bet myself...

AQs is one of your best hands there and you have absolut position, so i would call. And sometimes they squeeze wider, usually 5%

Value 3bet against the uncomplete stack possible fish.

As played i would fold vs squeeze. Bb has a very low 3bet and squeeze is probably lower.

You can call the squeeze with AQs, he made it too small. You have position and fish in the pot so it should be relatively easy to make a profit. Just be very careful against BB and be prepared to fold your top pair on flop sometimes (assuming you have good enough sample to know his 3bet is really that low).

What would you say is a decent sample? I had about 300 hands

The bigger the sample size, the better.
1000 hands at least.

To me, the problem is that the 3bet was called. So unless MP2 is a really big fish (the stack size isn't enough to say that, you need some stats on him for that), he is representing a premium hand as well, having called a tight 3-bettor.

Out of position this would have been an easy fold, but here it's indeed more interesting. The problem is that with 2 players like that the chance of 1 of them dominating you is very high, so what would be the plan for this hand?

Normally big ace hands dream of hitting the ace, or to use it as an out while bluffing (making for a weak semi-bluff, or a strong one, depending on your position and the board texture). Here plan 1 is not really possible, because it's a 3-way 3-bet pot. A totally different animal than a heads up 3-bet pot (in which case it would still not be a very reliable plan often).
And what about plan 2? bluffing a 3-way pot is a lot more dangerous than bluffing a heads up pot.

Of course in position you can try to make sure you don't lose too much, but what are the odds of winning a lot from this spot? I don't see any of them showing up with a dominated hand in this case. you're crushed by the top end of their range, and you're only doing ok against half the bottom end of it, considering MP2 just called, and therefore wasn't even trying to bluff.

I would have to say - it would be an easy call against a 3 bet, and a possible call even against a super-tight 3-bettor in position, but I think against a tight 3-bettor AND a caller, it's starting to look like a fold to me.

300 hands is not huge but it gives you an indication of a player's style so you can assume that he is rather nitty towards his 3bets. You can also assume that you are dominated and should play carefully.

on the other hand his squeeze is really small giving you over 3.5:1 odds to call with absolute position as well.

It is a definite call Pre flop and just play carefully Post flop.
One good thing with most nits is that, because they play few hands, they also have hard time to let them go when they play so you normally have great implied odds when you hit.

Edit: a quick note on the equity mentioned in the OP. the 36% equity is for you beating the hand by the river, not the odds of beating after the flop, so, in essence, it is wrong. It would only be right if you were all in pre flop. Now with 3.62:1 pot odds you still have great odds and position :)

I could bet money that MP has no idea that he called a tight 3-bettor :f_biggrin: I think you are giving way too much credit to nl5 player with that stack size. He will have a lot of dominated hands in his range.

Again someone is making the mistake to talk how he would play vs a 3bet when in fact we have a hand in which there is a squeeze and this changes the line of thoughts a little.
Of course we can call THE SQUEEZE but have to be very careful if we hi TP and a villain activates.

Very easy call. Position, soooted, and 3-handed. Yummy! I wouldn't even bother looking at anyones stats before calling. I bother more about post-flop play. This is where money is won or lost, not only a measly fraction of 1bb pre-flop equity like this thread seems to be about.

I think I'd call this one, too. There's a fishy guy in the pot and we got position.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I had folded it and watched in horror as 3 spades flopped.

Do not suffer as hitting a mono board will happen rarely.

Correct to fold.
Calling $0.5 could put you in an awkward position because the opponent will continue to bet. Perhaps the best move was to raise $0.3 instead of calling.

why not 3-bet yourself to isolate the non-fullstack recreational player? i think that is a way more optimal play and doesn't get you in this sort of situations. as mentioned before mp2 would call 3-bets with dominated hands.
