Finally worked out I don't need to be logged into image shack to use their services!

Here is my SH $.50/$1 week to 10 January for those interested. The narrative to go with this was posted a couple of days ago.

So yet again, after caning at the start of a new limit, I've started going backwards at a rate of knots.

I can live with this, as I know a large proportion of the reason is poor play, but it still takes a fair bit of will to not react poorly!

The hardest part to deal with, as I'm sure it is for everyone, is finding the loose tables with hoards of 50 - 80 VPIP / 25 - 50 PFR fish and having them hit every time v your solid starting hands, or against your more marginal, late position hands.

I am not really a tilty person but I've found recently I tend to tilt a little (mainly) in the form of 3-betting / capping the turn (and occassionally river) with top pair-top kicker / two pair / overpair / set when better hands are possible.

I've been doing this against looser players and not giving them credit, but inevitably I guess I still have to respect a turn check/raise or turn raise after a flop check/raise oop.

It takes a HUGE amount of concentration to ensure you play optimally when you keep taking sick beats v crazy nutters when playing soooo much tighter than they are - and I've found myself wanting a little over the last couple of days. :(

And, to be fair, I've been playing too long into these sessions when the days are so hot here at the moment it takes even more effort to maintain concentration. Lesson learned (well, hopefully!).

This sort of poor run after a nice start has happened at each limit from FR $.25/$.50 so I'm familiar with the drill. I know for sure a big part of the reason for the variance is due to failing to apply the strategy correctly, so I'm re-reading articles, reviewing sessions to see where the errors are occuring. I'm also reviewing hand evaluations more than I have been recently to get my head in the correct space, and I'm intending to watch at least one video a week for the foreseeable future.

Lets see how we go - I'll try to remember the idea is to receive donations from the fishes, and not donate to them!

Anyway, an update (WARNING: Any squeamish readers please look away now) :

FR $1/$2 to date: 342 hands @ 9.3BB/100
SH $.50/$1 to date: 5578 hands @ 1.0BB/100 (so in my last 1k hands or so I've dropped my lifetime win rate by 1.9BB/100 - uuurrrrggghhh... cough.. cough). :baby:

BR ~$610 :baby::baby:

Another 1 hour session, 2 tabling SH $.50/$1, 1 FR $1/$2.

No problem playing both as over 45 hands of FR play I played 2 hands - and pwnd both!!! A big 1BB upswing ( ) there - WOOOHOOO!!! :P

SH was nice to me finally after a couple of nasty days, up around 20BB - WOOOHOOO!!! (again, only this time without the irony and toungy smilie; cheesy grin smilie this time to indicate "happiness").

Update:

FR $1/$2: 384 hands @ 8.6BB/100

SH $.50/$1: 5721 hands @ 1.4BB/100

BR ~$620

Also, I have a dirty secret that is impacting upon my bankroll. I will keep to myself for the moment as it's secretiveness(?) may create intigue, debate, conjecture, argument, speculation and, more likely than not, extreme and fervent ambivalence - and anyway the truth is NEVER very interesting. :P

You took a shot outside BRM?

Anyways, nice to see you're doing better than the last couple of days.

@ Kimber88... no, much, much worse... :(

Thanks for the support though - hopefully I can get my game into some reasonable order and just get on with it!

@ opal99... hmmm.... no.... but a really good idea though. I'll wait 'till you're completely distracted by your exams and then who knows? :P

One of the reasons I started this blog was as a record of my progress.

I felt this was necessary to maintain perspective, which can be incredibly hard to do in the face of variance and as of yet unidentified leaks in my game.

And despite being acutely aware of this, I still find myself reacting emotionally to variance.

And yes, it is counter-productive; yes, being results focused is not as important as being process focused; but hell, it's easy to understand when you have sessions like this one!!! YAAAAAAYYYYYY!!! WAAAHOOOO!!!

I seriously considered ending this session after 100 hands - I'm running at around 50-60BB/100 at that point. Of course I had to continue - at that rate I would have been at $1/$2 after another 600 hands!

Update:

FR $1/$2: No change

SH $.50/$1:
Session: 314 hands @ 17.2BB/100
To date: 6286 hands @ 2.3BB/100

BR: ~$690

Good to see you're getting back up :)

I know what you did btw. You bought into a tournament that your BR didn't allow and you failed to cash. ;)

Thanks! :) But to be honest, my last post was pretty much just fluff and me being mildly ironic. :P

In reality, what happens over 20k hands is far more relevant than these little ups and downs. It's just nice to be moving toward a bankroll allowing higher limits, than away from that roll, you know?! And sometimes I just gotta share!!!

Weellll... I have been hankering for some MTTs and did actually play one the other day - but it was a $2 rebuy and I ended up just out of the money after being pretty short stacked the whole tourney.

All in all, acceptable. This other activity just leaves me feeling a little dirty afterwards, and I'm worried I won't be able to stop.

Short session update:

413 hands, down $4 or so. Which was a nice result really as after 200 hands I was down $50!

Initially I was losing to the 40%+ VPIP nutters when they continually hit their 4 to straight flushes and straights on river - and just too hard to fold v these 50% of any two cards types.

At the end of the session I was sucking out on them! This is the worst (and most profitable) example.

Just. Very. Sick. Enjoy!:

0.5/1 Fixed-Limit Hold'em (6 handed)
Hand recorder used for this poker hand: PokerStrategy Elephant 0.67 by www.pokerstrategy.com.

Preflop: Hero is SB with A♥, T♦
MP2 folds, MP3 calls, CO calls, BU folds, Hero raises, BB calls, MP3 calls, CO calls.

Flop: (8.00 SB) 9♣, 2♥, K♥ (4 players)
Hero checks, BB bets, MP3 calls, CO calls, Hero calls.

Turn: (6.00 BB) 3♥ (4 players)
Hero checks, BB bets, MP3 calls, CO raises, Hero calls, BB 3-bets, MP3 calls, CO caps (All-In), Hero calls.

River: (17.50 BB) 4♥ (3 players)
Hero bets, BB calls, MP3 calls.

Final Pot: 20.50 BB

Results follow (highlight to see):

Hero shows a flush, ace high (Ah, Td)
CO shows a flush, king high (Qh, 9h)
MP3 shows 3 of a kind, fours (4d, 4s)
BB shows a flush, king high (Jh, Th)

Hero wins with a flush, ace high (Ah, Td)

This is just not cool... if I'd been any of the others I'd have been a little terse afterward. (Except maybe for MP3... what the hell were they thinking???).

Lol that's what I was gonna post just now!:P He bet on something he thought there was no way he was gonna lose. And he didn't I guess . Is 1seednoir1 reading you correctly Waiboy?? We know what you did. C'mon admit it !

My guess will be that he's joining a NL HU game way beyond his BRM and just taking the blinds or something like that and leaving.

Nice try lads... actually, I'm okay with using my real money for sports betting, I wouldn't use my poker bank roll for this.

And what's dirty about sports betting, huh?!

Gotta be Federer for the Aussie Open too. I know Murray is looking the goods, and there are several other top guys in contention, but the Fed Express just looked AWESOME cleaning up the Kooyong (?) Classic today in 'stralia.

Close enough to kill this thread!

I, phew, this is hard to admit in such a public forum as this, have been unfaithful to FL. :(

I have read most of the SSS strategy articles (to silver anyway) and have played on several occassions on NL20. I feel disgusting, but a weight has been lifted from my soul. :P

In truth, I really want to get back to playing NL MTTs on a regular basis (ie 2-3 times a week) somewhere toward the end of the year. Once I've nailed FL to a semi decent level (hopefully $3/$6, but who knows), then this will be my next challenge.

While I know the strategy between SSS/BSS cash games and MTTs is quite different, I just want some sort of bridge between the two - to kind of keep my NL eye in, so to speak. I just can't be bothered with SnGs either, although these will probably fit in around the MTTs I would guess.

Sure the link is pretty tenuous, but the cash games will have me thinking more in NL mode and are really only there as a distraction from the true game of FL!

I TOLD YOU THE TRUTH IS NEVER AS INTERESTING!!!! :P

So I'm starting at the bottom grinding some SSS - only as a break from FL perhaps once/twice a week, sometimes not at all, without keeping a separate bank roll, and only using stats as a basis for moving up limits. Which I will only do after a minimum of 10k hands at any given limit with a decent win rate. At some point after beating a couple of levels at SSS I'll move to BSS.

Of course, this will have some impact on my BR from time to time. I will be unable to hide the impact as I move up, so at some point I have to come clean.

On second thoughts, I prefer BDL's idea - High Stakes HU blind stealing it is!! Two hands to glory!!!
