6k Challenge Day 1

172 games played
4 hours and 46 minutes
4 tabling
0$ earned
ITM 37.8%!!!
Ran above EV 17.2$

Today was very interesting day. At times I felt god like mode in HU's but then there were also times where I played C game or C-. I am very happy however that after 7 days of playing poker today I finally had at least an hour (all combined) of very solid A game. During that time I was playing very good in both 3 handed and HU's. Bluff catching and bluffing well, thin value betting great, value shoving vs right opponents, adjusting and re-adjusting pre flop ranges on spot, making perfect reads hand after hand. It was just awesome feeling and it gives me great hope that I am moving my game , mindset and focus in the right direction.
2nd important thing is that I can actually 4 table. Today was way better compared to previous days and I do mean way better. I can talk spots while I play and I got used to elpsycho's HUD and it takes me very little time to find info for HU which is essential. Studying with elpsycho is going great so my confidence and ability in solid game plan gives me wings to keep grinding and see whats up after larger sample of games. So far things are OK or good but they can certainly and will be even better.
3rd and perhaps very important thing, today I had close to 38% ITM which is actually my goal for the whole year. I didn't feel any upswing or major downswing during today's grind. I did however feel that I could have won and played better in certain sessions and HU's. Not worried about it now, that will all be sorted out over time for sure. The thing that got me worried today is that despite this ITM instead of having 4-5% pre RB ROI I actually had 0% or 0$ earned. This is a bit harsh reality of spins for me, I am used to grinding heavy and steady and getting paid for what its worth. Today I saw that despite ITM I set I have to win those multipliers towards 10x which BTW I think I am not playing my best as I am 4 tabling - either that (pressure) or setups - it could be both. I will wait for 6k tourneys and see what ROI I will get with that 37-38% ITM. If I still get 0% or BE definitely something will be very wrong with the game.
Finally, I was thinking of doing one more session but I already have more games then I set for today and I want to hit the bed soon (rest 8 hours!) - tomorrow teaching guitar and music 3.5 hours and have study with elpsycho + another 150 games planed for grind.

6k Challenge Day 2

Total games so far 300
Profit -12$
EV profit - 27.24$
4 tabling
Total 8 hours 25 minutes

Very active day for me!
Continued with my work out routine and went for coffee with my best friend. After that had total 4 hours of guitar and music teaching along with 3 hours and 39 minutes of Spins grinding.

Today's grind was not as good as yeesterday's despite winning couple 6x games! Ended in minus for the day 4 buy ins in 128 games and was runing bellow EV 1.96$. ITM for the day was 35.2% and definitely felt at times that variance was pushing me left and right.
The most revealing thing that occured today is that I will need at least several thousand games to get used to tendencies for this limit. This challenge will be perfect for it because I am under no pressure to make money from poker in next 40 days but rather to make profit after it.
Some typical things are shoving standard NASH 3 bets vs opponents who are not opening nowhere near NASH in HU. This happens when I 4 table, start to play on auto pilot and have wrong expectations.
Actually I think that my current game plan would be great for 15s+ as I expect far more aggressive tendencies both pre and post flop. On 3$ limit opponents play differntly both pre and post flop and I need to adjust a bit which gets me to work on my game.
Other realizations for today, I need couple more things in the HUD to maximize edge in HU. Will put those tomorrow and see how that goes.
Studying didn't happen today with elpsycho but tomorrow definitely there will be studying!

One thing for sure is that there is days and weeks ahead of me going over complete game plan for all blind levels and spots to write out asumptions and then check them mid way through the challenge and then re-adjust if necessary.

Tomorrow teaching 2 guitar and music lessons, studying with elpsycho, grinding 150 games minimum and meeting with a friend for drinks during the day. When I wake up I will work on weekly time management for all the priority areas mentioned yesterday.

Poker Stars will increase the rake and it is bad news for me and elpsycho but I still think games are profitable to get to that 5% ROI pre RB on 7s. Also, my guitar and music teaching has been going towards my expectations! Looking at my calendar, this week I am teaching 10 students!!! During the week I expect one more student to join us (he confirmed it today, waiting for day and time confirmation) plus two more students that are not taking lessons on weekly basis but rather by weekly or every 10 days or so. Overall I am very happy how my teaching is going and if I keep it going I can certainly save half money for the mortgage just from teaching - that is if all current students continue to take lessons for 9 months - which with teaching is never that stable, students come and go, new ones come in etc. At certain point I will have to find new students and my plan is while I am working with current students to start making waiting list now and let new people as the new spot opens up. Ideally I would like to teach music 15 hours per week or around 2 hours per day on average to keep maximum quality and value for those students. As I said right now I teach 10 students and that is rouhgly about 12 hours of teaching + 2 students that are not steady and 1 new student that will start this week = I am already at around 14 hours per week which is awesome!
Inf future, I will talk more about teaching and music plan by the end of the year with focus on new website, book and online course.

Total games so far 450

ITM 37.1%

Total 12 hours 39 minutes

Another quite busy day!
Completed my mourning routine which consisted of waking up by 10am, working out (push ups) , eating breakfast and having coffee with best friend. Another friend joined us and I am happy that I saw him as well today. After that went home and was making time management for the whole week based on current teaching schedule! I did Monday through Thursday, Friday Saturday and Sunday left. Time management is very brutal and I will share it here in some future updates. After all that, I had a landlord stop by with guy to fix washing machine! It lasted about 2 hours and that was the least productive part of the day for me but I had some laugh and some Serbian Rakija also :) After they left I grinded 1st session for the day and managed to put 47 games in. Following grind were 2 guitar and music lessons from which I spent about 1 hour discussing general strategy with elpsycho (studying) and put in 1 super long session 4 tabling with 107 games. Now the day is over and I am super excited to rest for tomorrow.

Regarding actual game play today, I started figuring out some things in Spins - it's like they are speaking back to me. The biggest edge is in the HU obviously and in post flop play. Think my pre flop stacking off as well as opening and cold call ranges are strong enough so the things that need to happen will focus on HU exclusively. I am not going to lie and tell you that 4 tabling Spins is easy. It's not! I certainly miss out tons of profitable plays. Think that with 3 tables I can do way more damage to other players but on the other side I see how huge mistakes they make and I believe it is just mater of the solid volume.
Regardless of my expectations, I have one major thing to decide which is - to keep 4 tabling or cut down to 3 tabling and find 1 more hour for grinding? It is already hard to grind this many hours with other things going on so to find 30 more hours in a month is really brutal stretch for me. However, considering that there is brutal rake increase in 3$ tournaments, idea is to get to 7$ ASAP. So during the challenge this doubt 4 vs 3 tabling will be underlying theme for me I feel!
Another realization is that with this rusty HU game plan without any real reviewing I am doing very well. I am absolutely 100% positive that with more volume and steady study + review , HU will be even more brutal. Just today I had several major things in my head that I want to double check with software during study sessions. Also I realize that I just started this challenge and Spins so it will take both experience and steady study to have everything click in place.
Finally, I would like to mention something really cool and that is how well my guitar and music lessons are going. I have 10 hours of teaching scheduled this week and also taught 10 hours in previous week. My average price per hour is 36$ which if this trend continues I will be able to make monthly steady 1.3k+ which is phenomenal. For living expenses I plan minimum 500$ , maximum 600$ so with current trend if everything stays this way by the end of the year I will be able to most likely save minimum 3-4k up to 6k or more (if I accept new students - which I will very much consider!). With all this in mind, if in next 90 days guitar and music teaching proves to be steady income for me, I will definitely lower the volume for poker and drop to 3 tabling (for higher edge) + invest more hours into studying and reviewing my game.
Overall things are right now looking very good and thanks to guitar and music lessons I can without stress play poker, put hours in and out and study and over time I will make 6-8-10-12k without any doubt!

Anyways, that is all for today, enjoy your day on and off the tables!

I will update later tonight challenge with actual graph for the whole challenge and list cEV amount and actual chips won etc
In the meanwhile will go for another solid hour of grind to have additional games for challenge.

Exactly Jernej! :f_biggrin:
Was seeing way too low win rate with that 3/3 graph. Actually helped to look into 3/3 game more post flop spots.

Today was another interesting day! Woke up early, completed my mourning routine again and went for coffee with my best friend. At coffee place played a bit and meet with another friend with who I went to lunch. After lunch I moved some more stuff to the new place and meet up with my dad. The rest of day starting around 5-6pm I started to grind and did close to 6 hours grind today (5 hours and 49 minutes) with over 150 games which is great.
Focus during grinding was good and I started adjusting strategy a bit in HU and early game based on tendencies that I noticed so far. Results wise it could have been better (always can) but I am very happy with progress since I started with spins. Definitely feeling way more absolute control post flop and was playing today again A game during certain times and strong B game. Another cool thing about today is that while I was 4 tabling I was actually taking notes on each of the tables when opponent did something out of line (2.5x -3x or more open, limp/shove, open shove 1st hand, HU l/call super wide etc). I am very happy with how I didn't time out as I expected while taking those notes! So in future 5-6k games I will keep gathering the notes and then I will have even bigger edge (example tonight called opponents shove wider cause I took a note that he shoved BTN 18bb Q8o before etc).
Overall, game is improving and moving in the right direction - that is great news. Another great news is that I added $ into my existing BR so now I have over 240 buy ins for 3$ limit. The only bad news is that 3$ limit will suffer largest rake increase from all spins so I need to grind it out soon and move to 7$ limit which is no different from 3$ limit really just need larger BR. Considering to shoot 7$ limit once I get to 150 buy ins and to set up stop loss to 100 buy ins to drop back to 3$.

No lessons today but tomorrow I have a lesson with my great friend and besides the lesson I very much look forward seeing him! Plan for tomorrow is to study with Elpsycho (last night before bed studied, today didn't spend time working on the game but rather was thinking of how to adjust overall strategy) and to grind minimum 150 games again while 4 tabling, taking notes and pushing most important edges.

Enjoy your day on and off the tables!

Crazy night yesterday - went to bed at 5am!
Set up 5 buy ins stop loss for 7$ and opened 4 tables, lasted close to 1 hour. Lost 10x on 7s with AK vs T3o r/c in HU of course. Won some 4x, there was some 7x as well but I lost that one as well. I will definitely take shots at 7s with more aggressive BR such as 150 buy ins for it with 50 buy ins stop loss. I am even thinking about regular grind for the challenge 3$ but after I complete 150 games for that day to fire up 7$ only IF I am in profit for that day or simply have balance above 100 buy ins for 7$!
Today's teaching is moved for tomorrow so my Saturday will be teaching 4 hours. Today I plan to put minimum 5 hours of grind, perhaps even 7.
Now did a review of my hands and found one of the leaks that I will work on immediately to improve my win rate. Also considering in the future to add 5th table as well as 4 seems OK now.

The most productive day for poker in a very long time!
Went to bed around 5am as I was grinding 7$ limit with stop loss and then looked into my stats. Woke up and completed my mourning routine, ate breakfast, went out for a walk got back home and started my grind. Before I go into actual grind, I want to mention some important changes that I made in my game. After playing Spins for several days on 3$ limit, I started picking up very well on opponents and their tendencies pre and post flop. Thanks to this I adjusted my overall game plan a bit, especially from blinds, and that left place for even more multi tabling. Yesterday I was shooting 7$ limit and was very unlucky not to win and continue playing it but swing was super standard and expected. Today I started grinding 3$ limit again and won in 1st session close to 30 buy ins! I then decided to go for 7s again with 12 buy ins stop loss. That lasted another 50+ games and again I lost 10x multiplier while dominating opponents twice. Returned to 3$ with around 700$ BR and while 4 tabling decided to test my skill and add 2 more tables! They fit nicely on my 22 inch monitor, I can still see the important things in my HUD while playing. I expected to miss a lot of value but overall i am very satisfied with how I did today. The swing was close to 50 buy ins but I kept playing despite setups and weaker ranges doing their thing.
So after today's experience, I decided to play sessions ranging from 4 to 6 tables right now. With 6 tables I can get 150 games easier and not only that, I can push myself to work on my autopilot and B game for it. Whenever I feel that my focus is going very down I will consider stopping the grind and taking 20-30 minute rest and returning to it.
Some things that also encouraged me today was when I went through my stats and overall feel during the 1k games (combined with 7$ limit). First couple of days I was adjusting, adapting to playing field and getting to understand dynamic of spins but now I feel very much in control.
For now, plan is to still do 6k games by 1st of May but in the meanwhile couple of things will be added:
- Continuing to grind 4 tables but increasing to 6 as often as possible to improve auto pilot and regain focus
- Continue having Netflix in the background while grinding - open to your movie and tv show suggestions while grinding :)
- Whenever there is 10 buy ins over 700$ BR, to stop with 3$ and take 10 buy in shot at 7$ limit.
- If things go well with 3s I might move to 7s sooner then 1st of May. If things go really well I may bink some insane multiplier (feeling its coming for sure for me!) and finish the whole goal for the year much sooner.

Before going to bed, I will also post some info about today's grind

3$ limit = 293 games EV 10.87bb/100
7$ limit = 77 games EV 0.35bb/100
Total 370 games
Grinding time 8 hours and 37 minutes!

Final thing about today's grind - blue line was not going up during 6 tabling. I will pay attention in next 1000 games if that trend continues to pay closer attention to it in actual games.
Check out the graph where there is clear difference between time I was 4 tabling and then switched to 6 tabling.

Overall I am very happy that cEV is already at 37%+ for what I set at the beginning of the challenge and through out the whole year (later on 7$). I am confident that I can get it higher then 37%, most likely to 39% on 3$ limit but it will take time for sample (several months) + more adjustments in my game plan.
Things are looking good so far and I plan to continue with steady grind habit + analyzing my own game and looking for ways to gain additional edge on the field.

Tomorrow quite busy teaching day, 4 lessons lined up all online - 12 to 2pm, 3-4pm and 7 to 8pm. In between I will most likely rest, relax and regenerate + work with elpsycho on some ranges. In the evening after lessons I may do 2-3 hours grind 4 to 6 tabling to continue and be ahead of the required games for the challenge!

Have a great night on and off the tables!

6k Challenge Day 6/40

Total games on 3$ limit so far 1041/6000
Profit +105$
$EV +83.85$
ChipsEV 59235 or 56.902 per game
Chips won 62972 or 60.49 per game
ITM 37.4%

1st crushing day in Spins!
Played several sessions today from which two of them were between teaching (30-40 minutes of grinding). Results wise it seemed to me like it was upswing type of day but . I am definitely positive that my game plan adjustments from 2 days ago are doing great on 3$ limit and should be great for 7$ as well.
After 6 tabling 3$% for 2 hours and 11 minutes and winning 96$ (33 buy ins) in 112 games, I decided again to take a shot at 7$ limit with stop loss set at 4 buy ins! This time, shot taking payed off as I made 112$ in 78 games. So total profit today is 208$ in 190 games and exactly 4 hours of grinding 6 tabling (on 7$ started 4 tabling and as I won some right away added 2 more).
Overall very successful day, it reminds of the days when I had 500-1000$ upswing wins on 15$ limit in 6 max SNGs. It is always good to get this bankroll boost because now I have 19 buy ins stop loss on 7$ limit which I plan to use again tomorrow.
Besides poker, today I was teaching 2 instead of 4 hours. Arranged with student to spread out those 2 hours tomorrow and on Monday one hour each which works best for him and me. Lessons went great and I am very happy and thrilled when students come prepared to lesson, practice and do the assignments then building on that is very easy and progress is guaranteed always!

Before going to bed, I will post graph for the challenge as well as mention several more things. As I mentioned before, my goal is to get that 200 buy in BR as soon as possible for 7$ limit and just move there full time. Game play wise, I have not noticed any major things on 7$ vs 3$. I think I can with many games there have ROI anywhere between 2-4% pre RB which is not bad at all considering that I am playing totally new format that requires super concentration and focus (lots of HU's and post flop decisions!) and the fact that I do not plan to drop below 6 tables due to hourly reasons and variance (my goal is to play as many games as possible to even it out).
Having these things in mind, I did some numbers using current cEV for 3$ on 1k sample but instead applied it for 7$ limit and got following things: With new rake increase on 7$ and my ITM and cEV, with 6000 games per month (120 hours of 6 tabling) I can expect long term 3.5% pre RB ROI and post RB 4.9%. With those numbers actual profit is 1481$ pre RB and 2128$ post RB. When I divide it with 120 hours invested, hourly will then be 17.73$! Not bad and definitely something that I think is very much attainable (reaching 3.5% pre RB ROI on 7$ spins). Also I think that my game is right now even better than those expectations but time with right sample will show if I am right. I do think that my cEV will go over time higher then 56.902 that is for sure!
With everything said above it absolutely makes sense to go for 7$ as soon as possible because on 3$ with same cEV, I would make 722$ post RB which is 6.01$ per hour. Huge difference due to rake increase on 3$ and taking into consideration that playing 7$ will not be harder for me. Also, expected profit on 7$ shows that I can within 6 months make 12k$ which allows me to move up even slower. Reality is however slightly different. I am aware that it will take me time to earn those 12k$ but I want to do it ASAP and get it over with, dedicate my time to music and still play poker for additional income for savings, investing and retirement.
So during the challenge I will keep shooting 7$ and if by 1st of May I don't have 1400$ for them I will consider 4 options: 1) keep playing 3$ until I do get to 1400$ 2) keep playing 7$ with shot taking above 700$ but do steady 3$ limit 3) add more money to the BR from my teaching and go for 7$ with 150 buy ins or so 4) loan money from my great friends who kindly offered to help me out when they heard of my plans and approach how to make it all happen.
All options are valid and I will make the decision before 1st of May. Until then whenever BR is above 7$ I am going for 7$ spins, 700$ or less, back to 3$.

Before challenge update, here are some calculations taken out from SwongSim software using 56.902 cEV (my current cEV on 1k sample on 3$ limit) assuming the same for 7$ (due to no difference in level of play) with 7% (future rake increase) instead of 6% for 7$ limit!

120 hours/4 hours per day average
5760 games on 7$ with 56.902 cEV = post rb 1987$ , pre rb 1422$ , RB 565$
50% had a breakeven stretch longer than 1838 games

1% had a downswing greater than $1468
50% had a low point lower than $-184
1% had a low point lower than $-1172

150 hours/5 hours per day average
7200 games on 7$ with 56.902cEV = post RB 2483$ , pre RB is 1778$ , rb 705$

50% had a breakeven stretch longer than 2133 games
50% had a downswing greater than $666
1% had a downswing greater than $1606
50% had a low point lower than $-190

1% had a low point lower than $-1227

36000 games = 5 months of 150 hours grinding 750 hours total
13827$ post RB, pre RB 8888$ , RB 4939$

50% had a downswing greater than $962
1% had a downswing greater than $1889
50% had a low point lower than $-163
1% had a low point lower than $-1059
50% had a breakeven stretch longer than 4369 games
1% had a breakeven stretch longer than 13481 games

I am leaning towards 150 hours per month, 5 months steady grind to finish the apartment mortgage in next 750 hours on 7$ tourneys + get SN along the way.
I had good 2 days on 7$ limit + added rake back from Stars coins and now I have close to 150 buy ins for 7$ limit which is great! That allows me to keep grinding 240 games per day without any pressure for bankroll. Worst case scenario even if I loose 1050$ I will be able to reload it using my own money and/or with help of friends. For that to happen I have to go on brutal bad run to loose 150 buy ins and to mentally tilt like a monkey and spew. For tilt and mental game I have never felt more focused, determined and in control. Goal is very clear and reachable and I am holding myself accountable for it every day! So after I complete current challenge there will be a new one following on 7$ limit!
From tomorrow I am resuming 6k challenge but I will play on 7$ limit just as I did past 2 days and complete the challenge that way. Challenge update will contain both 3$ and 7$ limit!

Good day today!
Completed my mourning routine (very happy about it!) and went for coffee with my best friend. After that started grinding then taught one lesson and then grinded some more. In the meanwhile talked with elpsycho as usual and did calculations with different cEV expectations for 7$. During the grind had 2 movies in the background, standard stuff.
Biggest thing is that I reached close to 150 buy ins for 7$ limit thanks to RB and OK run on 7$ limit in less than 500 games.
I will from now play 7$ limit by the end of challenge and if by any chance I have some strong downswing I will activate some of the options for reload.
Also, by the end of this challenge I will warm myself up to get to 5 hours steady grind - which is what I have done so far over 35 hours in 7 days! If things go smooth I should in next 34 days by 1st of May get additional 170 hours of grind in with 48 games per hour average 6 tabling which should give me total 8160 more games starting from tomorrow/today. This will surpass the challenge easily but will also give me more realistic picture of my skill and edge + variance in spins over next 8k games. Very much look forward to it and I will continue to update the blog daily the way I updated it today just focusing in future on 7$ limit.

P.S. Fired up 2x15$ games , 1 tabling and lost in both games in HU in all ins pre flop :)

6k Challenge Day 8/40

Total games on 3$ limit so far 1041/6000
Profit +105$
ITM 37.4%
ROI 3.36%
4 and 6 tabling
7$ limit
Profit +266$
Total 668 games, 15 hours 12 minutes
ITM 37%
ROI 5.69%
Combined 42 hours 11 minutes and 1709/6000

Great day!
Swings on 7$ limit but overcame them by winning 10x 6x and 4x multipliers which there were a lot of in the 1st and 2nd session of grinding. 2nd and 3rd session downswing was happening and I remember when I checked ITM after 3 sessions that it was 36% definitely less then 37%! Got home, ate diner and started grinding. Within 5 minutes of grinding noticed my focus was off and that I needed to de-screen so I finished 6-10 games and went to bed. Studied with elpsycho 1 hour and then took a 1 hour nap 10-11pm! Woke up, grinded another long session which consisted of 1 hour 45 minutes.
Total for the day is 241 games, 5 hours and 14 minutes.
Results were great for the day too but the most important thing is the control that I feel on this limit while 6 tabling. I now see and realize why my friend was suggesting me to get to 30$ limit as soon as possible. I thank him for his words of praising my skill knowledge and mindset but I will stay on 7$ limit until get enough money to power up my roll and connect some winning months.

Here is the graph for today:

Here is a graph for the challenge so far:

Finally, I want to talk about setting goals and challenges!
Based on my calculations I need 750 hours to get to SN and with 6 tabling and expected win rate that I have (without any review or improving my game) I can get to 13k or so $ post RB. Now, 750 hours is very attainable time by the end of the year, but I want to talk about 3 key things when setting up this goal and then some more.
1) Trigger
2) Actual habit (grinding)
3) Reward

Trigger is something used to set up and start the habit. For my mourning routine when I go to bathroom brush my teeth and get back towards living room and bed, I do 15 push ups in front of it and then I go for breakfast, coffee with best friend and do the rest of my day. For grinding, my trigger is connecting laptop to my monitor, connecting keyboard and external mouse, bringing the system up and as soon as system starts HM2 run as admin and Poker Stars client immediately follows. From then on I decide based on my energy level if I will play medium session 1 hour, short bellow 45 minutes or longer one 1.5 hour or more.
So trigger for grinding habit is set in place!

Actual habit is very important, in this case it is steady grind. Grinding is something that comes very naturally to me. Most people play poker to get rich fast, I understand the variance and that is all about putting massive volume to get the results wanted. So I accept grinding just like I accept water, sun , sky and the fact that I need to sleep eat etc. This is just something that is necessary if I want to achieve winning results in poker. With actual grinding I always try to reward myself and make things challenging by increasing number of tables 1st (started challenge with 2-3 tables, then went to 4, now playing 6 for several days without problem - by the end of challenge I will most likely do more then 6 tables!) and I also like to have Netflix playing something in the background. It actually helps me focus much better because I am used to high pressure situations naturally as a musician and performer - I am always excepted to play my best and perform my best. I approach poker the same way. Also, it is very fun when you have Netflix in the background, 6 tabling spins and knowing that game plan is profitable and making money. I feel powerful in a way like I just need to log in, clock my grinding hours and over time paycheck is coming. Very powerful feeling and knowing that 99% of the things I can actually have a huge affect on in poker when it comes to my hourly and money earned but that 1% is variance (when or how long it will last).

Reward is very, if not the most important part of goal setting, challenges and behavior change!
By setting up rewards you get to look forward to your actual habit because you know there will be something for you by the end of the challenge. When reward is not there, during times when you lack motivation to power through you are way more likely to give up the habit/goal/challenge/behavior change.
For me, reward comes in many forms. First and most important form is that my dad will be debt free, have an apartment paid in full and that he can without stress continue to live his retirement days here in Serbia where things are very much standing still, economy sucks but ongoing bills and cost of living is going up! So that is my major reward and this is the least I can do for the person that sacrificed his life to have a family, worked super hard to put them through schools and always is there for them. Other forms of rewards are different and they are as following for me: 1) When I have a profitable month with 1.5k+ post RB, I take 150$ and with that money I take a 10 buy in shot at 15$ limit! If I don't loose that money I continue grinding, if I loose it I drop down to 7$ and grind until next month with same approach. 2) When I complete my monthly goal I take a day to go to spa, get massage, swim in a pool , hang in jaccuzi and sauna and just regenerate my body 3) I take my family and friends to my favorite restaurant for treat to thank them for being there for me, providing me support of different sorts.
Other sorts of rewards may include things like buying something nice for myself (new jeans, shirt, pants , shoes etc) or simply taking a day off and just hooking up with a girl or two for that day.

Now, there is couple of more things to say about challenges, goals and setting things up properly.
In my case goal is 750 hours of grinding to get to 12k$ post RB. Instead of looking at just that, it is of vital importance to make a detail plan how to accomplish it. I did that yesterday and I showed that in 5 months of steady 150 hours grinding that is achievable. That means 5 hours steady grinding no excuses each day. The question is how realistic this is? What about days off to regenerate, days with family, friends, girls, for myself time? Those things also need to be accounted for! So 1 day per week off on average means that in 6 months that goal is very well within the reach!
Another crucial thing is to run a calendar with this blog and hold myself accountable for the goal that I set. That is how I use my blog. I set the goal and every day I update it to keep myself accountable. It is like running a journal where all the entries are happening and when I look into it, read it, I don't want to break the chain of habit and events! Now I see 8 days of grinding steady for the challenge, ahead of the pace - guess what, I will do my best not to brake the chain on day 9, day 10 and so on and so forth!

Final thing about habit forming, goals and challenges is tracking energy levels and listening to my body. If I feel tired and my head hurts, it is -EV to play. Best play is to regenerate, rest relax, take a power nap, take a walk, work out, drink water, eat fruits and vegetables etc. The solution is not to lie in bed and stare in the monitor or TV. It is usually everything but that! So when I feel that I have energy, on those days instead of doing 5 hours planed I will do more because that helps me get to my 750 hours grinding goal faster or 150 hours for month faster and with those days with motivation burst usually A game follows easier in the zone and flow!

OK, that is everything for now about setting up new habits, goals and challenges as well as behavior change. In couple of days when 1st of April comes, I will set up this 750 hours challenge into monthly chunks as well and do everything that I mentioned above as I am doing now!

Hope you enjoyed today's update and that it added value to your life in one way or the other!

Graph for the challenge:

Busy day!
2 hours of teaching + 6 hours of grinding. Woke up, completed my mourning routine and from tomorrow I am raising it!
Actual grinding did not go so well. There was definitely variance but 1st half of grinding I was not playing my best. Most likely post flop setups and variance had to do with it slightly. I look forward doing the review for this specific day to see how many times I made wrong call post flop, bluffed wrong player or missed a chance to bet/call aggro player in HU just to name the few. Also as I was grinding today through variance couple more things came to my mind as I was 6 tabling and those are following : 1) Need to change my color coding and perfect it more. This includes special color for wide r/c players, color for aggro guys in HU, aggro guys early game open shoving 25bb and opening with 2.5x-3x or morel, guys who click 3 bet nai and call off trash vs guys who do it with nuts etc. That new system will help me identify leak immediately as I 6 table and my decision making will be even more automatic. 2) Need some more thing in the HUD for sure. There is now super specific things that I am absolutely positive I need to have ASAP so I will talk to elspycho tomorrow and hopefully we can implement it all very soon.
The results for the day were 286 games in exactly 6 hours with -196$! During 6 tabling something happened either with Stars or my internet , all tables froze I took a screen shot and I plan to ask Stars for those 6 buy ins back!!! Regardless, I feel during this loss day I could have prevented at least 4-5 buy ins from happening but I am also aware that days like this will come up in the future when I am putting large pressure and expectations on myself and I am fine with that. There will also be days with better card distribution in my favor and in those days I will potentially win 50+ buy ins easy vs loosing 20-30 buy ins so I look forward to those days.

Finally, I played close to 2k games already which is 1/3 of the challenge in 9 days. With this pace I will finish it way before the set time frame however I want to try and go for 7.2k games in April on 7$ limit or 240 games per day. The worst thing that I see happening is me being BE and getting 700-800$ from RB alone which is great for April considering that my initial plan was to start making money on 7$ limit from June until January with average post RB 2k$ profit per month. So I am well ahead of the pace, I am just working now towards setting daily , weekly, monthly, half and complete challenge rewards as well as to break it all down into specific daily/weekly/monthly targets.
I will therefore start a new challenge starting on 1st of April 2016 and no it will not be a joke For the end date of the challenge I have not yet decided since there are some indications that my family might visit in following period + my friend from Boston coming to Nis to hang out go out have fun etc. With these things in mind along with teaching on average 10 hours per week right now and 35 hours of weekly grinding it will be difficult to fit it all but not impossible of course. Another thing to consider is that I definitely want to do reviews every 3k games which means by the end of the challenge I will do 12 reviews to check my early game, HU and in general where I feel I am leaking and where I am actually leaking.
Overall with current game plan I am not worried, scared or anything like that, on contrary I am confident that I can make money on 7$ 6 tabling so I will continue to play volume and time will show.
Expect a 36k challenge starting from 1st of April!

Enjoy your time on and off the tables!

Hi Mate,

Great reading all of your updates as per.

One question above you say " The worst thing that I see happening is me being BE and getting 700-800$ from RB alone", I assume that is directly buying $ with your build up of stars coins?

Regards

Steve

Hi Steve,

Yes those calculations are using Stars coins to purchase cash rewards. With 7200 games per month I would get close to 20k VPPs (19404) and those would be worth 700-800$ approximately per month (depending on RB % on Platinum 22-25%). For exact calculations look at the post couple of days ago with 120-150-180 hours monthly grinding targets.
I used Swong Spin software to put in 7% (new rake) for 7$ limit actual volume and expected cEV or ITM. Actual RB money is just from grinding so I choose to get 100+ buy ins per month from RB and in the process to get used to variance that Spins bring.
There will be month with BE pre RB things , most likely even month pre RB loosing but I am positive over 36k Spins I can have both positive ROI and make 4-5k+$ from RB by hitting SN along the way!
With 4-5k$ from poker I will still need 7k to match 12k$. I made a savings system using my music teaching income and on minimum in next 9 months I should be able to save 2k while realistically I can save 4k by the end of this year (with current calculations). So that leaves another 3 or 4k profit expectations from poker and for that I need 47 cEV (for 4272$ profit pre RB) and even less for 3k profit pre RB (between 44 and 45 cEV).
These calculations are based on the way things stand now with my music teaching and for Spins calculations stated now are with less than 2% PRE RB ROI (1.7%) which I think is unrealistic for my skill level and edge but I will be OK even if I finish 36k games with such ROI because all that matters is combining income and saving 12k by the end of this year!
Some things that can affect this savings plan greatly in a good way is higher cEV and ROI, binking some brutal multiplier and of course getting several more music students. With more teaching I decrease my variance when it comes to saving plan! With more grinding I get closer to true ROI. So I choose to focus all my attention on both things - getting more students and grinding heavy. Over time both things will result into 12k saved sooner or later - I am setting goals to get it done in next 6 months but would not cry over it if I did it over next 9 months. Most people in the world don't have automatic saving system in place and end up in debt easily. I decided to take full control of my financial life and over next 18 years I want to have both retirement saved and to invest money in various projects and things I am passionate about. The idea is to reach the point where money from savings on monthly basis and investing is larger then the actual money earned per month. So if I make on average say 2k per month, I want from savings and investing to get minimum 2.5 or 3k each month or 36k per year. For that kind of money I need to start investing ASAP (which is my next goal as soon as I help my dad out) and while doing it not let it affect my lifestyle (to be able to travel whenever I want and visit friends all over the world). About 400$ per month saving would do the job over next 18 years for such return so that is what I plan on doing after current goal and life mission is completed. More on this when I complete current mission - I will talk where, when and how to save that money and what motivates me to do it.

Have a great day Steve :)
