SB 39/0 3bet 0 - 69 hands
BB 38/16 3bet 0 - 62 hands

Both the blinds were passive so I decided to a min raise was best, ICMizer says this is a close shove.

OTF should I just shove? I cant see folding because even if he has a 9 I have so many outs. TT & JJ are unlikely, but I guess for a passive player QQ+ is still possible

Poker Stars, $3.11 Buy-in (40/80 blinds, 10 ante) No Limit Hold'em Tournament, 4 Players

SB: 7,415 (92.7 bb)
BB: 1,494 (18.7 bb)
CO: 3,127 (39.1 bb)
Hero (BTN): 1,464 (18.3 bb)

Preflop: Hero is BTN with J♥: T♣:
CO folds, Hero raises to 160, SB folds, BB calls 80

Flop: (400) 9♥: 8♥: 6♣: (2 players)
BB checks, Hero bets 230, BB raises to 460, Hero calls 230

Turn: (1,320) J♠: (2 players)
BB checks, Hero bets 834 and is all-in, BB calls 834

River: (2,988) 8♣: (2 players, 1 is all-in)

Results:

Spoiler

2,988 pot
Final Board: 9♥: 8♥: 6♣: J♠: 8♣:
BB showed Q♣: 9♦: and lost (-1,464 net)
Hero showed J♥: T♣: and won 2,988 (1,524 net)

I think you are too deep for a shove at this spot against passive players. OTF I would check to see 1 more card. The board well connects to the SB calling station range and you don't have a made hand now. If you hit you most likely gonna get value from his worse hands at least on 1 street whereas you spew chips bluffing

Shipping pre-flop is indeed to much with your 18bb stack, but most likely +ev as well.

As played I don’t think a Cbet isn’t too bad with blocking some flush draws and 8 outs for a straight.
His min raise is off course suspicious and I would most likely fold here with only 834 left if I call.

Cheers,

When he raises my flop bet I think he has top pair or an overpair so if I give him this range TT+,A9s,K9s,Q9s,J9s,T9s,95s+,A9o,K9o,Q9o,J9o,T9o,98o
then I am 43% OTF so I think I can call his raise but would have to c/f unimproved OTT

I think you can discount the over pairs here, but he could have a straight here as well based on his stats.

True, he could have flopped a straight and be raising to protect against a FD, I dont think a passive player OTF will raise a gutshot QT, or even an open ended straight draw.
So I've probably either got good equity against a 9x hand, or miles behind and needing to hit a higher straight, a pretty iffy situation.....

By the way, do you play 6max or 9max? I sometimes miss out on that but it is very imprortant for the ICM reasons (got it now from the next post).
You should bluff less when your hand has decent equity with good implied odds against a passive player and when chips you win cost less then the chips lose. Otherwise you give up your equity to win bigger and lose less (in case he holds a fd) to winning small and loosing more when your don't hit and give up or bluff and a passive opp calls you with better hand or when you get raised and you have to give up for the ICM reasons or when you hit and your opps hits a better hand

At the moment I play 6max and 9man, just depends what is available at the time.
I used to play lots of SnGs then went to MTT's had some success but got a bit fed up with them so have got back to SnGs for a bit

Yes, I see what you mean about giving up my chance to win more whilst also allowing myself to loose less
