Thanks for sharing the info, Maniatrix & xdimax. Glad to hear your accounts have been re-opened. The points mentioned by you here are valid and the Unibet rep has acknowledged this problem in the twoplustwo discussion. Hopefully they'll improve on that. GL at the tables.

According to the 2+2 thread he got his account verified 19/9 and an extra 50€ got credited to his account as an apologie for the delay.

I have seen similar cases a lot during the years. And in almost all of them the "victim" didn't tell the whole truth. Maybe you have created another account earlier or you used your name and ID to open an account for a friend.

If the documents are wrong/old, they don't close your account. They will ask for proper documents. As they have locked your account, they have found something shady in it. If you still feel that you don't have anything to hide, you should write a complaint to regulator. You can also write a letter to Unibet, where you use polite language and explain that you have no idea what is the reason. And it's hard to defend yourself or write a complaint to regulator when you don't know the reason for this.

edit: Oh, this is resolved. Didn't see pages 2 and 3, lol

actually I was thinking - what if somebody "borrows" your ID or driver licence and creates account with your name? For example an underage child - seeing his father playing poker and having so much fun, I believe lot of teenagers would like to play online also. And they can easily get ID from the father when he does not see. And then father might be accused and account frozen.

Also I am thinking - a lot of people do not even read terms and conditions, and might not even think that opening another account is anything bad. We open multiple accounts on emails, of facebook, on whatever. So they might be used to it and not even think that its smth bad to open another poker account. So I guess poker rooms should warn them with big letters during registration or smth like that. Not with huge document of terms and conditions which takes time to read.

Well if people don't read the terms when they sign, it's their own fault.

If someone else uses your ID, it's a bit problematic as poker sites often just say "case is closed, have a fun day!". I would assume that if you can prove that someone used your ID to create an account without your permission, you have a chance to succeed.

There was a case here in forum where a guy made an account and "forgot" that his friend has used same email to make an account earlier and his account got frozen. I think that sites should have a system that doesn't allow to use same email for two accounts. But apparently some don't.

first of all - how friend can have access to your email :) I do not give acccess to my email to anyone :) only they could have my email if they steal my password :)

The case was shady as hell. First post was really similar, "they have locked my account and I have done nothing wrong!" but eventually all kinds of stuff came up. The thread is somewhere in here. So I was not talking about you, speedfanatic, but the guy who made the post then.

Just an example that although it shouldn't be possible to create a new account with same email, it is.

If someone "borrows" your ID, you are screwed. I would assume that in many cases where someone makes multiple accounts they try to explain it with someone using their ID. So sites don't believe it unless you have VERY good prove.

I agree with Kyyberi that very often people don't tell whole story in this type of threads, and very often account closures are as well because some kind of breach of terms and conditions.

On the other hand... I believe sites only care when people want to cashout their money. I don't know many sites who don't allow you to deposit or play real money games before validating documents. It's strange how you allowed to plan & win tournaments (loose money), but you want to cashout it's denied because your underage or you have multiaccount or what ever. If you go real casino pretty much any country in the world, you are obligated to present your passport before you allowed to play anything. This means it's not even possible 2x people play using same documents, because normally casino will take photo from person using passport. It should be same for all online games, but I guess sites are not obligated to this so they will kind of use it to their advantage to freeze money when they see people break the rules. Truth is tho that they are as well breaking the law if they let underaged people play real money games with unverified account.

As well it's quite fucked up that sites seem to have possibility to freeze your funds when ever they like and for pretty much what ever reason they like. It was not long time ago posted; There was situation where players account was frozen during WCOOP tournaments. He was sit out from 5k WCOOP main + 1k Wrap up end game (finished 13th or something), because someone had send email to stars that he's tablecamping in HS cash game tables. Whether he was guilty or not, this seems little bit harsh for me, but most of the time 1 player cannot really do much when site decides to operate this way.

If you read the email sent to MajorCanon by Unibet they do explain why they closed his account. They mention that they had some doubts about one of the documents.

No evidence, no proof, just they had some doubt.

And based on this ...
Closed his account
Seized all his money
Told him the matter was closed and not open to any discussion
Refused to respond to his emails.

Im sorry but this is not acceptable by any stretch. Seems fairly obvious to me that the only reason he eventually got his money out was because he spread his story all over the internet forums and just wouldnt let the matter rest. For Unibet it became a case of weighing the damage done to their reputation versus the profit of stealing his money.

But how many cases just like this happen where the customer is not willing to carry it this far. I bet there are a ton of cases just like this that we dont hear about and Unibet just keeps the stolen funds.

in another thread where he complains:

To re iterate, mulal32 is my one and only account, acquired the email roughly 3 years ago from a friend

this is so stupid acquiring an email account from other guy. For what reason is it not possible to create your own email account. Does creating new email cost money? wtf. I understand that poker site does not believe this, even in theory it is possible. So they should not freeze money until they do not know 100 %.

Maybe the guy from the thread was really breaking the rules, maybe not. It is similar for any case where people complain about account being closed, maybe they cheated maybe not. The point is, poker site allowed him to open multiple accounts using the same email, if he really cheated, they allowed him to cheat until he won some bigger money. Yesterday i played in Holland casino, at the entrance they asked me for the ID, they checked in the system my data, registered me, and let me buy in. That's how it should work also in online casino, first user should provide ID then casino should verify it and let the deposit. Also in Holland casino, they are not going to take your money and throw you out if you entered wrong address in your registration form, used the same email as somebody else, gave false mobile number and similar stuff. If you try to cheat while playing poker, they would call a police. Somehow all those things are not happening in online casinos, because they are situated in countries where they can do whatever they want. It is similar with pokerstrategy, they are in Gibraltar, they had black member conditions for some years, and just suddenly they change the rules, who cares about players who were working hard and paying rake to reach black member. It is all written in terms and conditions, which almost nobody reads. Cheating in a legal way.

it would be good as you wrote. Besides forcing to send ID on registration. I think if they force it, then fish who wants to gamble now, does not want to wait till ID is verified and might choose another room.

THey could add message smth like each time he logins, that he needs to send ID, otherwise he might not be able to cashout at some point and money might be frozen in case of cheat.

But how to force poker rooms to be better? By not playing there? but there is no alternatives. So create new poker room which would be honest and somehow attract players is an option.

I think the only way is to get a lawyer in Malta to represent you and take this matter up with the Maltese Authorities , as far as I am concerned this sounds like pure theft . This is I suppose the weakness in dealing with poker sites not registered in ones own country of residence, maybe the few sites that the USA allows are the better choice , the USA authorities may be a bit more reliable because of their stringent requirements. But possibly your best bet is to pay Unibet a visit and sort the problem out man to man, if practical. They sound like a bunch of cowardly thieves hiding behind their computers . Perhaps it is time for us internet poker players to form our own association to investigate and settle such matters.
Thanks

If casinos are winning huge money without producing anything, having bad software (except pokerstars), investing just in commercials, then they probably have enough money to pay people who would check for ID immediately 24 hours a day?

It's obvious that if some room does this way, they will loose customers. It would need to be law, I guess. At least French regulated pokersites are forced to execute this process during first 30 days after account creation. If I remember correct in Winamax.fr I was not allowed to deposit or play before documents were verified.

Simply by not playing there anymore. That is what actually happens, most of the players are playing at pokerstars which seems to be only serious online casino with reliable software, and other casinos are slowly but surely going towards closure.
