Germany update
Hi guys and girls,
Decided to take a bit of time to update what has been going on in Germany.
Cost of living here
Since I arrived here on 19th of December, the weather was mostly rainy with 2 days exceptions when it was sunny but only for certain part of the day. When it comes to sight seeing, I did see some of the main monuments in the city center as well as actual center. I am very happy about that but to be honest, it is nothing I haven't seen before in Boston, NYC, Prague, Vienna, Bratislava or such cities. A lot of things are "same same but different". What did surprise me is how expensive Germany is vs Serbia, Thailand, Slovakia (Bratislava). To take a train one way is 2.80 euro. To eat Ceaser Salad is 8.65 or 10.65 eur with extra chicken. Candy is 1 eur and up (Ritter sport awesome chocolate and Kinder Bonbons is brutally awesome candy!!!). I did not get any beer because I prefer Rakija and beer is carbs heavy any ways (terrible for weight loss).
When it comes to other "weird" things from Germany (or my experience here) is the fact that when you go to public places, there is no WI FI. They don't offer it because of copyright laws, they are afraid user might download some torrents or hack and then they are responsible for it. Makes sense but sucks big time when you come with international number that has no internet plan in foreign country (or is super expensive to add one anyways). Another interesting thing is how actual market place vs gas stations vs places close to trains that sell regular things are way different in price ranges. So if you buy Kinder Bonbons for 3.50 euro 300 gr, gas station is 150 gr for same price. Water is way over priced outside of market place (in market you can find it for 20 cents a bottle which is of course great price) goes from 1.5 euro up per bottle etc.
What I am saying is that to live in Germany, there is huge price differences for regular life stuff. If I ever lived here I would to save money bargain hunt all over the place. For example I found in Rewe market where there is salad bar, you can get 100gr of anything for 1.19 eur. So I get 1kg of beautifully cut and cooked chicken breast for 11-12 eur tops. Super +EV deal considering that at home (in Serbia) I eat chicken breast all the time and here I can just add some more salad with it and my favorite meals are ready.
So definitely, to live in Germany single, one needs 2k+ eur to feel OK with food bills and regular life. In Serbia that amount is 500-700 eur, Thailand 700-900 eur tops, USA is also 2.5k+$. Quality of life is also very different but I would always choose now at my age 34 Serbia or Thailand for life vs Germany or USA. Just to mention, today is Sunday and very few things work today. This is unthinkable in Serbia or Thailand. Markets are open, stores, malls, places to drink coffee, places to go out, here I am told its ghost apocalypse like. No wonder people are productive in Germany when they stay in on Sundays and work from home (likely)
OK, now onto some other things while in Germany.
Poker
Played 2 sessions Spins, won 10 buy ins in 1st and in 2nd believe was BE or lost 1 buy in. Played live poker with a friend and won 354 EUR i 3.5 hours (cool hourly). Initially we were supposed to play 2/2 and signed up for waiting list but it was too long of a wait and casino didn't really offer hot girls to talk to or any attraction to peak my interest so we went ahead and entered 5/5 game with 250 eur each. I went up 300+ eur with 3 GTO bluff catches and then cashed out with 114 EUR profit from that table as soon as 2 spots opened for 2/4 table (minimum buy in 150 eur). Remaining 2.5 hours at 2/4 I won 240 eur and that was that for me.
Games were soft of course. Future of poker is live poker but higher limits of course. Playing 1/2 or 2/2 is too low in my opinion to make up for any serious online hourly. On 5/5 there were me and my friend, 1 tight reg, 1 young guy who seemed to know his way in the game (reg for sure) 1 old nit, 1 whale aggro spewy (every hand calling light flop turn bluffing rivers), and 1 aggro older reg with 1 weak tight reg who overfolds of course. What can I say about 5/5 game except that my friend went all in with 99 for less then 30bb pre flop and then aggro older reg and weak tight reg reshoved with over 200bb+ with JJ and TT. Too crazy to believe it I know. But I saw this with my own eyes and thought in myself "It would kick ass to have 30+ stacks and play this game full time".
2/4 game was even easier then 5/5 game because there was me and my friend + 2 more regs from which 1 is decent , 2nd one is very light, and rest of table was open book. When they raise 4-5bb they have top 4-5% range, rest is limping fest. So the action went many times with limp pre flop of course. Then post flop they were open book as well so it was even easier to play the game. In this game I lost pre flop with 30-40bb stack with QQ vs KK , and despite loosing such "large" amount (close to 150 EUR) I came back within 2.5 hours session not to brake even but to finish it with 240 eur profit. It was very good result considering we were 9-10 max table and that close to 400 eur won after initial cooler with QQ was all post flop without a single all in. I had perfect bluff catcher reads and my cbets and barreling was excellent as well.
So overall, 2/4 game is way more profitable vs 5/5 and playing both will yield very good ROI.
Other poker related topic is that I looked into my Spins DB while here. Analyzed my stats, stats of opponents and am ready to fix my game further. It will take a lot of time (as everything worth in life does) but I am ready to take 1 step at the time approach and attack my leaks as well as opponents.
Outside of everything I mentioned, 2 things worth mentioning:
- I bet with my friend on Partizan to win vs Young Boys 1000$ (500$ each) and cash out in live at over 2.3 odd around 80th minute (Partizan won 2-1 game). So 670,680$ profit each there.
- I played PES with my friend and he owns me at it. I lost my touch, control of players while he plays it every day and has GTO passing skills as well as channels and ways to score. So far I loose to him between 60-70% games and I win or draw rest. I did put training mode yesterday and won some games so from 11 games he won 7 I won 2 and 2 were draw. I play Arsenal, he used Manchester mostly (Better team for sure !!!) and Liverpool and Borusia. That's ok, I will get him once I buy PS4 and practice myself, its all about getting back in the zone of doing it daily. To beat fanatics you have to be fanatic!
To finish the update, I will just say what lies ahead.
- 5 more days in Germany including today. Will do more Spins work to improve and even add some hours.
- Until 1st of January from 1st of December I will keep pushing myself with grind to reach 300 hours of poker challenge. I am even considering to do 6 days per week 10 hours grind with 1 day "off" from poker to make 240 hours in December. Will see about that due to other things in life but definitely going to hit those 300 hours (need less then 230 hours at this point to make it).
- Training 5 times per week. In Germany I let myself go with soda, candy, carbs intake and over calorie deficit consumption. So I will jump rope 5 times per week and train 3 times per week Bar Brothers 3rd month (again). Its been close to 2 weeks without training and my body will need time to get back into 50+ pull ups per training.
- Thailand in 7 weeks exactly. Phuket, can't wait for it. It will be amazing time and lovely reward for this "hard" grind I am putting myself through.
That is all for this update. I wish you great end of the week and to enjoy your time on and off the tables.
Greetings from Germany!
