Everyone is entitled to their own views and opinions. If you don't find this animation useful - feel free to avoid using it. Other members might have a different opinion and might find it amusing - let them be, in the end it's just a fun illustration of expressing anger (quite common in the poker world).

Adding or removing icons requires involvement from our web dev team and would have to take place across all language forums - which is why we need to reject your proposal.

I guess we deserve a for that

If it's any help, there are some apps or browser extensions that allow you to block certain content and elements on any website. I personally use uBlock Origin, which doubles as an ad-blocker, but there are others available.

Temporarily removing offending content like the emoticon you mentioned is just a matter of making two clicks that way. I often use it to get rid of bad video suggestions on YouTube, for example.

I don't find the animation troubling. There are people who are actually into that kind of behaviour, and for most of them it's consensual. However, I do agree that it was mean-spirited for the Head Admin to post that emoticon in this thread.

This is another fine example of what's wrong with society today. People getting offended by a harmless animation instead of focusing on real problems.

I don't share OP's disgust with the animation either, but there's nothing wrong with voicing your concerns, as long as you're not imposing on anyone else. And I don't see any reason to believe that OP doesn't have any "real" problems to deal with instead.

Let's not blow this out of proportion, please. It was just a harmless request that got denied, which was accepted without any protest.

I think animation is not OK because it doesn't include safety word.

This is in my opinion not a harmless animation. Violence and torture are real problems, like climate change (although I have the feeling you will not see climate change as a real problem).

Google for smiley & 'synonym for cat' .... A lot of what you will find are what I believe harmless images and animations but to even suggest this search can get me banned I guess. That's how 'harmless' images can be.

I highly doubt that anyone is going to argue with you that violence and torture aren't real problems. The reason other people were not offended isn't because they're okay with real world torture, but because they saw it as just a humorous and, yes, "harmless" animation to express annoyance etc - pretty much like it was intended.

And I strongly disagree with the popular idea that any joke (some can be in bad taste, of course) about a serious problem is somehow delegitimizing it. In fact, humor is often a very effective tool to deal with terrible situations. Just do a web search for Soviet jokes to get some good examples. I'm obviously talking about actual jokes by Soviet citizens, not those outdated "In Soviet Russia..." meme jokes.

None of it really matters, anyway. You found a way to block it, and everyone else gets to keep using it, if they like. I'd call that a win-win.
