I played with the villain on couple of tables and he seemed pretty solid.
I think it's a standard 3b SB vs BU but would prefer to be ds.
We got 4b which could potentialy be AAxx and I decided to make a call.
Flop quite decent, open ender, BDFD and a gutter.
SPR was at 1.5 I thought that was enough to put the money in.

Thoughts?

3bet is fine but just fold versus 4bet. I think we should be folding pretty much all ss KKxx combos outside of double pairs. KKxx does very bad versus AAxx heavy 4bet ranges.

On flop we face one of the issues as villain probably has some form of AA most of time and remove at least two of our outs. If we assume 8-9 outs it would mean around 35% equity. We need around 37%. So its close spot on flop and its not much mistake either way imo. But preflop is quite sizable mistake. In general be very careful calling 4bets with Axxx or one pair holdings. Most ss combos will be fold or very marginal calls.

Yep, definitely overplayed it. He was a solid player as well.

I overlooked that only to realise it when he showed aces.

I would only call super connected ds hands something like AKQJds etc.

Yes, fold that again the 4bet. Fold all KKxx even AKKx (exploitatively?). The KKxx always good enough to call oop are those without an Ace and excellent side-value like double-suited and either connected or double-paired: K♣:K♦:J♦:T♣:, K♥:K♦:Q♦:T♥: or K♣:K♥:T♣:T♥:.

With the oesd you gotta go broke, we are right around break-even but just a little worse (gutshot+backdoorflushdraw) you still have to fold the flop, that is the reason why folding vs 4bet in the first place. Not enough flop equity/ smooth enough equity distribution we can hit. Villain should not go rampage actually with all of his AAxx btw because of the possible straight and mid-high connected flop texture.

That is actually not such awesome hand to call versus 4bet especially if we assume 4bet range to be almost purely AAxx. Reason is proximity with AA. Here are preflop equities of few different strong Axxxds hands versus AAxx:

Yes, it wouldn't be great in terms of equity but hands like AKQJds, QJT9ds, T987ds etc flop extremely well vs random AAxx hands. People 4b any AAxx hands not only ds and connected ones. I remember reading in one of the books that when calling 4b's we want stack off on as many flops as possible which makes a lot of sense to continue with those kinds of hands. You can't be folding to every 4b not holding aces even for balance purposes. I assume people don't pay much attention to stuff like that on low limits but yeah.

This is something you learn when you train those spots with solver. Against 4-bets you have to be veeery carefully if you hold cards like :Kx: or :Ax: that are dominated even if it is in the premium category like AKQJds which you should fold whereas AJT9ds you can still call against AA because of it better capability to hit straights that do no need an Ace to complete.
