hmm i heard the +ev to play roulette is to put let's say $100, if you dont hit then you put $200 on the same thing and so on and so on so that your next bet always has covered your previous losses and if you hit, you make a $100 profit - so if you have enough money to do this, you should be able to hit and once you do, you call it a day and come back tomorrow![]()
This works under 2 conditions (which are never met):
- You have unlimited bankroll
- The casino has no maximum stake limit

and, it wouldn't matter whether you stuck to red or black either
the best way to play roulette is to make one bet with all your money, that way the variance is the biggest and the longterm -ev is less noticeable
In holland betting on colors rows colums etc. is the least -ev to gamble. since when 0 hits in holland you get half your money back. so its only 36/36.5...

Interesting. It's 36.5/37 actually (not that it would be a big difference).
About this whole 'doubling your bet theory until you win' theory... I think it's a really bad idea. Say you play at a table where you can bet from 1$/100$, bet on a color, and you double your bet if you lose. Here's what the results would be. The probability numbers are the probability of that particular bet being your first win.
Bet 1 - Bet 1$, Spent 1$, If you win: 2$, Profit 1$, Probability 0.4865, EV 0.487
Bet 2 - Bet 2$, Spent 3$, If you win: 4$, Profit 1$, Probability 0.2498, EV 0.250
Bet 3 - Bet 4$, Spent 7$, If you win: 8$, Profit 1$, Probability 0.1283, EV 0.128
Bet 4 - Bet 8$, Spent 15$, If you win: 16$, Profit 1$, Probability 0.0659, EV 0.066
Bet 5 - Bet 16$, Spent 31$, If you win: 32$, Profit 1$, Probability 0.0338, EV 0.034
Bet 6 - Bet 32$, Spent 63$, If you win: 64$, Profit 1$, Probability 0.0173, EV 0.017
Bet 7 - Bet 64$, Spent 127$, If you win: 128$, Profit 1$, Probability 0.0089, EV 0.009
Bet 8 - No Bet, Spent 127$, If you win: 0$, Profit -127$, Probability 0.0094, EV -1.196
Total EV: -0.20624
Even though 99.05% you double your money, the other 0.95% (not insignificant) you lose big.
Here's a graph of your profit as a function of the number of bets you are allowed.
For those curious, the function for n bets is 1*(1-(19/37)^n) - (2^n - 1)*(19/37)^n

it isn't the same - EV because if you play red - black (etc.) you get half you're bet back if 0 falls you don't get this if you bet specific numbers.
I went to the casino over the weekend while i was waiting for a film at the cinema.
Used this double your bet theory and doubled my money (only from £10 to £20)
Not that I would like to make a habit of doing it though.
the best way to play is don't don't don't don't!!! As a roulette player myself I ensure I never play , and already my bankroll is much larger than all the other roulette players i know who actually play
the martingale system (doubling your losing bet until you win) also does not work, in short term you can slowly make profit when you win, but then suddenly you will lose HUGE amounts and go broke when you lose. You need such a large bankroll relative to your bet size to justify playing this sytem it is just not worth it ( you really need 100s if not 1000 dollars to play for $1 bets. if you actually have that amount you probably don't need to be risking it all to win just a dollar.
don't forget...the house always wins! trust me i've learnt this from many bad experience
"I'm going to give you a secret roulette system that really works. It will cut the house advantage to literally nothing, if you believe in it enough to never get frustrated and switch tactics. What I'm going to say may seem strange, but here goes.
First, never bet simply red or black. Also don't bet odd or even. These are equally poor, consistently losing wagers.
Second, don't be suckered into betting zero or double zero, despite what some experts may suggest. This may seem like you're betting with the house, but for technical reasons you are actually betting against the house -- and you are taking the worst of it.
So, in order to negate the house advantage, you MUST stick to straight non-green number bets. All odd red numbers turn out to be bad choices, based on over two trillion computer trials. Don't bet them.
All even black numbers fair poorly, and cannot be bet, for much the same reason, which I won't explain here.
Let's get straight to the money-saving advice. Any bet you decide to make MUST cover only even-red or odd-black numbers. There are no exceptions.
Finally, you need to be very disciplined in excluding the number 30 and the group of consecutive numbers that begins with 11 and continues clockwise through and including 14.
This system may seem mystical, but I take gambling quite seriously, and this works for me."
The above is a quote from Mike Caro and is I believe THE ONLY NON -EV method of playing roulette provided you stick to it religiously.
Have fun!

This just sounds like a huge level to me
I actually googled around a little bit and realised that betfair have a zero house edge roulette game. Definitely the best place to play if you have to play roulette.
