What a treat! This Thursday, 10th of October at 20 CET we dive deep into 6 card PLO!
It's very different from 4 card version, or is it? Tune in to discuss and learn strategical points and how to study it without solvers.
From what I watched Luuk Botter playing some 6card omaha it seemed from small sample that game is actually quite a bit more passive or it might just be that no one understand that well where and how to apply aggression. But I can see issues in aggression as e.g. lets say hand like AQ99 on T87 could in general play aggro in 4card. But sort of problem I could see in 6cards is that there is now lot higher chance of facing nuts and nuts have even less incentive to fast play without fairly good support.
On another hand perhaps stuff like nut flush blockers are more powerful as its just so much easier to have that flush as pre ranges will also be more focused on having nuttiness. So when someone block nut flush he also more often has it. So I feel like bluff catching would be kind of forced to focus on having e.g. 3 or maybe even 4 flush blockers. Only two blockers would make bad bluff catcher in general.

Fun fact: You get AAxxxx 6,1% of times, that is almot 1/16 times. Meaning that if you 4 table, you get Aces once an orbit.
About blockers, Ace blocker is the powercard once people start to make bluffs. At lower stakes big river bets are almost 100% for value. I havent' seen so far a single river bluff with Ace blocker. I have seen some on the turn but they have chickened out on the river. The power is that with one card, you remove 100% of nuts from opponent's range. With pair blocker for straight, there are still 2 cards in the deck and with 6 hole cards the odds for having them is higher than in 4 card version.
The hard part at higher stakes is that when people start to play Ace blocker as nut flush, it's hard to figure out the calling range. No solvers, and calculations are quite hard with Oracle (it can't even make some of them, as resources are not enough). And the amount of hands and hand types in our range is exponentially bigger than in 5card or 4card PLO. How to know whether you are under or over calling with bluff catchers? Besides Ace blocker, how to know whether you are under or over bluffing in different situations? So many questions, so little answers.

I've played this game for some time now and when it comes to passivity I think for some regs it comes from the way solvers and mastermind etc have coached them to play 4-card. So they are balancing their checking ranges a bit more than they perhaps should need to. Also they may not be familiar with multiway solutions that much so it could be easier to play it safe and take the passive route sometimes.

Yeah multiple blockers in hand or on board are important. Also opponent's inconsistent line is another thing that could help people make the call.

True words. At some points the best regs also start to bet big with K-high flush as well on certain boards because else they would run out of value. So when you first learn to bluffcatch thinking it's only nutflush or a bluff it feels so dumb to call the first time and see that you got outplayed by another reg valuebetting second nuts or even lower. But that's probably a thing on pl200 and further, at least not on microstakes.
As solver isn't going to give answers to 6PLO in near future, I would see that at midstakes+ the edge versus regs is based almost solely on bluffing and therefore bluff catching. And as no one has the definitive answers how to do it, there is room to make good money for those who can figure it out better and be able to spot exploitable strategies from opponents. Just like in 4 card PLO before solvers.

Lets start 2025 with a banger!
At 16th of January, 20CET, we go to KKpoker and dive in for fun game format called Bomb Pot PLO! In Bomb Pot PLO every player puts in ante, that is randomized between 1-5bb for every hand. After that two boards are dealt, and betting starts from the Flop. Players use the same hole cards to play both boards, and final pot it divided for both boards.
Lets think about strategy and build a frame model in the stream!

The Bomb Pot variant sounds like fun. Curious about what your strategy will be.
I guess that, the more money is in the pot due to the antes, the looser you can open/call and see a flop (or flops even).
Esspecially because there are two boards dealt, certain hands will flop nicely while they might not be in you regular starting range.
There is no opening range, as the game starts from the Flops. So in 6max, all 6 players get dealt a hand and they see Flops.
