Because a hobby has more fun when shared with friends.
Well, the obvious reason being that you can discuss poker, certain hands, videos, etc. with a friend, and have another point of view on things. Plus, you can have internal competitions.

Why? We discovered poker some months ago, so my friend bought a poker set, we were playing, having fun, then he bought a better poker set because he is a real fan of poker. ♦ We were playing, having fun, we were 4 friends, of course we played without any strategy, I was counting if I have straight on my fingers, I was asking if straight is better than flush and is three-of-a-kind better than two pair. So I was stundet, so I am now, I hadn't job so I wanted to start design freelancing and developed my graphical art skills and I was reading some designers blogs and there was his refferal and story what is Pokerstrategy, I was very interested. I registered, passed quiz, told friends but they didn't believe that PS gives 50$ starting capital. The one who was really big poker fan registered and got his 50$ and went broke in few days, too bad, I thought he will learn when I told him about PS. Second friend registered too, and googled for quiz answers to get 50$ 
. They both are broke, but they are so big fans of poker... They are looking WSOP, Poker after dark, 2m2mm, but I event don't know how Ferguson looks like. I think they went broke because they saw that on TV they play loose, so did they.
Well I chose "Because I want to extend my bankroll with the Tell-a-Friend feature" because when I was younger and kinda didn't follow the strategy I lost all my bankroll. Now I'm ready to learn again and become a winning player. Ww also every friday play offline poker with friends, so a poker set would be very useful.
The answer is pretty obvious. PokerStrategy is a great place for people to learn how to play and not to risk your own money at the same time and you can be sure that people at this site will do their best to improve your game because it is actually at their interest. Those couchings and videos cost money in other places and here you get it for free, the only thing you have to do is keep playing and improve.

Apart from great articles PS offers, it as a good way to vaunt and whine about poker results with your friends 
yeah i love having other people to discuss play with and help each other improve/give congrats on good play/rage with on bad beats that all understand and can laugh together.
I invited friends because I wanted them to get good at poker too, so we can discuss hands, strategies, and basically I want them to start loving poker.
Hope they finally start playing one day, they just registered... ♦
When I tell people that I'm playing poker they always say something like: "OMG... so you're a gambler?" or "OMG...and how much have you lost already?". They know nothing about poker and they think I'm a dummy, loosing all my savings on the internet. But when I explain them what poker is about and explain I'm a part of the internet community where people share their mathematical problems, discuss their strategy etc., and I'm really improving my knowledge here, they don't look at me like I'm an idiot. In fact, it sounds cool when I say I'm a student of a professional poker school. When I tell them about PS I let them know I'm serious with poker and I'm not just a dummy gambler. And after that speech (most of the time) they try poker too.
Extending my bankroll is always nice 
Unfortunately, whoever I refer to this site tends to go off and do their own thing though...

I told people about pokerstrategy so they can have a little help with their starting bankroll as well as improve their games by reading the awesome articles.
I was walking through the office at lunchtime, and saw a guy I didn't know tucked away under a stair, hiding away with a book. The book was a Sklansky "How to play" type book, and he looked embarrassed. So I stopped and chatted about poker, and linked him up through the tell a friend program, which gives him a real start, with resources that kick arse and can make him successful, and me a poker buddy right in the same space.
Win-Win.
