With regards to the VPN i use StrongVPN.com i chose it because someone mentioned it on 2+2, no other reason and tbh i didn't research it much. But i got 3 months for $45 (i.e. $15 per month) to try it out and it's worked fine for me so far so I will probably renew it once it expires.
You should get an open VPN as opposed to a PPTP one as the PPTP one might not work properly. The difference is that the PPTP one uses the in built windows software and open uses software you need to download. Take this all with a grain of salt though as i am certainly no expert.
The package i am on now also lets you choose where your ip "is". For example if you want to pretend you are in the US instead of China you can, if you want to be in the UK you can. Also it's encrypted so no one is going to steal your password. But for all i know these features could be standard.

Why would the built-in windows connection be less reliable than additional software? o_O
I use purevpn.com, it's pretty much the same (buy a fixed IP in any country, 10$ a month, no bandwidth limit), and I haven't had any disconnections yet. And you don't need any additional software.

" SSL (openVPN) has the best performance and is more reliable than the PPTP version, as PPTP is commonly blocked in China. We are even expecting that PPTP will be entirely disabled soon and only available again after individual companies specifically register for it. "
But for all i know the article writer could be full of it or it only applies to China.

I tried to read the chinese post, a little hard for me I have to say 
Neteller is not working in China if you don't use a VPN (they disabled my account when I used it from China, and wanted me to use click one instead). But I guess VPN + Neteller will do it. What do you think of PayDirect (available on FT)?
I tried once VPN and it was not working (China Unicom ISP)... guess it was a PPTP I will probably subscribe to the openVPN soon.

McD is not the place with the lowest salary here, but you do get around 20$/hr for it.
Well I have been lucky with my student job, some only get what they pay at McD, but still, the taxes are high, so its 16$/hr in my pocket.
