7th January 2010 - A quick report after a long time

Hey guys. So after not playing for a long long time there has been christmas (I hope everyone enjoyed it :) and there is new year (wish everyone all the best). With the new year also came the new year PokerStars offers, which include 25% deposit bonus up to $150 and some stellar rewards and quicker status earning, which made me make a deposit and start playing again. I also spent all of my FPPs to buy some nice christmas stuff, pretty cool.

After the long break, I returned to the $3 SnGs and after about 100 SNGs I was down like 15BIs, so PokerStars did not make any nice welcome for me. Classic suckouts and push-fold not working, nothing I have not seen, so I just kept my cool and while playing opened a few PLO Micro-Donkaments, and I cashed 4th in $3.3 tourney for like $200. Pretty cool. As this success is not the first one I decided to play every regular PLO MTT that PokerStars has to offer, to make it fun and also make some more money if I continue running good (Yes, I admit it, I am no PLO god and if you want to make the FT, you have to be running good ;)

So much from me, wish you all the best :)

Hey,

nice to see you back. Sick cash in PLO MTT, congrats. You defo should become a reg in those tournaments, those wins boost the BR nicely ^^

Good in SnGs, hope you can move up limits soon :f_cool:

12th January 2010 - A proper update
.

So yesterday I sort of started playing again, I put in a bit of volume to reach SilverStar status ASAP and also keep unlocking the reload bonus and the stellar rewards, plus there are some sweet discount for the VIP store stuff :f_biggrin: So PokerStars really makes it worth playing since the new year started .. Also played some MTTs, no big results, I was massive chipleader in a mixed PLO/PLHE tourney on the Final Table, got sucked out 3 times in a row and busted 9th like the biggest fish

Now some numbers :

SNGs: 398 played | 5% ROI | $72 profit
MTTs: 17 played | 414% ROI | $191 profit
Bonuses : 10$ + 66% of $75 + 20% of $10 = $61.5
Total = $324.5

I will try to put in some more volume to reach GoldStar ASAP ..

16th January 2010 - A very nice session and great news :)

First - The great news .. After some unexplainable lucky coincidence, I got retracked by PokerStars so I actually earn StrategyPoints for playing on Stars .. I guess the Bronze status times are over:f_love:

So today I decided to play a session and finish unlocking the first half of the new year's $150 bonus and the second stellar bonus .. I reached those goals and as an addition I started winning with AA, KK and overally running well finally, which ment an amazing (for me, as this year started very poorly - 24% ROI):

Cumulative numbers (January 2010) :
SNGs : 185$ (686 played, 8% ROI)
MTTs: 187$
Bonuses: 75$ + 10$ + 10$ = 95$
Total = 467$

PS. I do not know why, but there were quite a lot of SuperNovas at my tables today, no idea what they are doing at the micro donkaments

Hi,

I have just started playing SnG but we've met couple of times yesterday :). My english is not perfect but be sure that I will be your reader

GL and see you at the tables

Greetings from Poland :f_cool:

28th January 2010 - 35 Tabling with TableNinja

Hey guys, so yesterday a thing that deserves mentioning happened - I found out that there is a great peace of software called TableNinja which allows you to play way more efficiently as it handles all the annoying stuff like registering, closing, clicking OK and also lets you play using keyboard shortcuts .. So I can comfortably play up to 35 tables without any problems now (which means like 60 SNGs / hour :)

So yesterday night I put it some volume to reach goldstar, unlock the second part of new year bonus and some stellar :

Cumulative numbers (January 2010) :
SNGs : 443$ (1404 played, 10% ROI)
MTTs: 167$
Bonuses: 75$ + 75$ + 4*10$ + 15$ = 205$
Total = 815$

@ anytwooffsuited
Thanks for reading and gl at the tables :) I hope I did not suckout on you ;)

wow, sick. 35 tables at a time? how is that even possible? I mean you must be playing B-C standard. Interesting blog, just wondering, whats your biggest amount of sng's in a row that you didn't cash in? Gl at the tables, i will be reading :P

Hey, yes I play ABC, actually I call it "micro-adjusted" ABC .. Something I figured to be extremely effective at those stakes .. BTW. I do not think that doing anything more sophisticated than basic ultra TAG is better at those limits .. People just dont think there, or they think in a sort of .. strange .. way .. According to SharkScope the longest loosing streak (without a single cash) is 22

Thanks for reading :) I will be happy if you stop by sometimes and good luck as well

31st January 2010 - End of month report

So this month ended with a 35 BI downer (nothing unusual as I started playing 18-mans) and running like 12% under EV ROI, at least HEM states that, I do not know how reliable this EV lines for SNGs in HEM is, if you have any ideas please share :) I could not play tonight as I am ill as hell :-D

Now the notes about the month

  • Did not play much, especially in the first 3 weeks
  • Reached Gold Star on PokerStars
  • Unlocked full new year reload bonus and 4 stellars
  • Had a nice cash in a PLO MTT
  • Found out about TableNinja, which lets me play way more
  • Got retracked by PokerStars

Now the numbers

  • SNGs | 1856 played | $521 profit
  • MTTs | 36 played | $160 profit
  • Bonuses | $150 New Year + $50 Stellar + $15 Battle of the planets
  • Unknown (Maybe EUR MTT cashes) | $22
  • Total : $919

And the graph

Goals for the next month
[ ] As I found out once how bad it is to set money goals => no money goals :-D
[ ] Reach GoldStar at PokerStars (meaning playing at least 1365 SNGs)
[ ] Reach Planim Status at PokerStrategy (meaning playing at least 2728 SNGs)
[ ] Reach PlatinumStar at PokerStars (meaning playing at least 3410 SNGs)
[ ] Find a way to effectively change FPPs for $ by playing FPP satellites
[ ] Try to increase the number of tourneys / hour to at least 55

210 FPP to the Sunday 1/4 Million.

20 entrants and 6 get the $11 entry which you can turn into $T.

You should be cashing in at least half of these if not 2/3 of them.

Maybe you will have to lessen the tables just because it is a satty and the push fold stages
can be trickier sometimes when you have a pile of good solid high levels in there grinding
but that is rare enough from what i found.

You can fold your way right to the final table just waiting for a playable hand early game often.

Just a little brag and moan in one

I was in top 20 leaderboard, but today I made a new personal record : 70 BI downswing (not included in the picture, if I wanted to include it the fish icon would dissapear :f_biggrin: ) .. I jus LOLed so hard today when watching all the suckouts ..

Just like this :

ouch!!! EV graph?

HEM says this (history for all 18-mans), I do not know how reliable the EV live is, I e-mailed HEM this morning about that:

would be hard to find a quality EV line in the 18mans due to the huge ICM tax until close to bubble.

but still... ouch

Thanks for feeling with me :)

Interestingy, from math point of view, this is not such a big thing :
Over 1500 SNGs with Avg. ROI = 16.428% (thats my EV ROI) the interval in which the real ROI should be with 95% probability is = ( 6.047% , 26.809% ) .. as my real ROI is about 6% and sample is only 1250 it is actually OK ..

If my real ROI was 11.636% than with 95% it should be in ( 1.389 , 21.882 ) ..

Thats how big variance is in 18-mans ..

17th February 2010 - Running like crap whole month & winning a first MTT

Hey guys :) Just a short update as I am still (as the whole february) running like the sickest of sick sicknesses bad .. The only thing that made this month a little good are those 280FPP hyperturbos, that give great rakeback (like 2x better than the bonuses) and a PLO MTT, which I actually won (my first MTT win ever :f_biggrin: , however it was made by a deal so sharkscope shows it as 2nd) and cashed like 180 EUR (the buyin was 2 EUR) .. That puts me in the green by like 500$ this month so far .. As for the MTTs I started to take shots at the PLO Hi/Low Micro donkaments as well, they seem to be ever more profitable than the standard ones :)

But that is not the point .. I am so frustrated by all the suckouts I cannot find the motivation to play .. Even when I play, the bad dream continues and its pretty sick (215BI under EV) .. All this results in only plaing like 1300 SNGs this month so far which is not enough even for GoldStar ..

So the question of the day :
How do you guys find new motivation when running SICKly bad for a week or two ??

Thanks a lot for your ideas and good luck to you all :)

PS. There are new episode of High Stakes Poker (Season 6) and WSOP Europe, so check them out if you want to, Hellmuth is just amazing in both of those :f_biggrin: I couldnot stop laughing

My philosophy, crafted from the remnants of months of solid loss rate, is to try to put the limits I'm playing into perspective.

To do this I have set in my mind what I consider to be a meaningful limit to play (for me I've set it as $5/$T maybe even $T/$20 FLSH). If I'm not playing at that limit it doesn't really matter what the results are. It is far enough off that big BR movements are irrelevant in terms of how close I'm getting to play there. My skill is significantly lower than it would need to be in order to successfully compete at that limit, so I know the only thing that really matters is improving my play.

The reality then becomes, the more I focus on the process, the more likely it is the results will come - and the speed at which I progress toward those limits is irrelevant. I'm, of course, anticipating this becomes a self fulfilling prophecy. If it doesn't I won't be disappointed because at least I know that month on month my game gets better.

So far this philosophy has been working pretty well. Of course I've been winning since I implemented it (approx. six weeks ago, my volume is significantly reduced and I'm clearing the FTP first deposit bonus) so I don't know how it stands up to serious swings. But I'm optimistic that it is the correct (for me) mental state to adopt to get me (or not) to a "decent" level and limit of play.

My two cents anywhom. :f_thumbsup:

1st March 2010 - February report & Changing environment

Hey guys, so time for February report .. Nothing new happened as I was lazy as hell, I only played like 1500 SNGs this month which is not enough for anything except GoldStar .. The downer really took away all of my motivation and ejoying the game, so I took quite a long break .. I ended the month in +$756, which is good considering I played such a low volume

As the break was not enough, I decided to completely change environment and moved to FullTilt Poker, here are the reasons :

  1. Completely new room with new environment
  2. New games to play
  3. 27% Rakeback
  4. $600 first deposit bonus + Fast $50 bonus
  5. Some other promotions like Iron Man etc. etc.

I will start with $600, playing $3.5+$0.3 SuperTurbo SNGs (10BB starting stack, 3min blinds), it is a great format and I will only be playing 16 at once (FullTilt does not allow to play more), still being able to play like 75/hour and my goals will be

  • Unlock the first deposit bonus + fast $50
  • Read all the FullTilt stuff on their site to get the maximum out of the promotions (any ideas ?)
  • Play as much as possible

Any ideas about Fulltilt and their promos are highly welcome gyus :))
