There are a few immediate benefits that I can see that do not make this just variance inducuing so to speak.

Firstly, you are only risking ~1BB and the reward can be very signifigant.

For example when the big stack knows what he is doing he can push and abuse untill the bubble breaks.

You can break the bubble and stop his EASY chip accumulation by risking ~1 BB very big pay off in the long run.

Also and more obviously once the bubble bursts your now guaranteed money and there is 0% chance of a bubble out.

I have seen people come back from stacks like this with just retarded luck and people folding into them gives them
that many more chips to push into the big blind with the next turn which doubles them up with that many more chips.

My answers may not be conventional and have nothing to do with what the judges will say but these are two reasons why
I can see this being a great push and not just randopm hands vs random hands inducing variance.

I wrote all that and did not even mention the odds.. there are Antes here on Stars, so you are getting HUGE value on your
push as well when you do win this hand. Even without antes its pretty sweet but they make it nicer.

the major reasons why you push ATC here are:

1. pot odds - you are getting > 2:1 on your money because the pot is already so big compared to his remaining stack. any random hand combination against another random combination has at least 35%~ equity on average. This means that with 2:1 pot odds you can make a +cEV push/call with ATC. and because you are on the bubble and the odds are > 2:1 and your hand usually has > 35% equity it is very +$EV to push.

2. he might fold - the chances of him folding even 1/100 hands makes this push very good for you.

3. he is your direct opponent - folding to your direct opponent on the bubble is usually a big mistake. because you are taking equity directly from your stack and giving it to him! if you fold here you basically double him up, which is very very bad for your equity in the tournament because his stack is now closer to your stack.

Its good to know that you have to push ATC in spots like this and that it is a BIG mistake to fold, but it is more important to understand why.

Great point, but just wanted to correct one thing: a random hand vs a random hand will have 50% equity on average, and in most cases it won't drop below 35% I think that was what you meant
