It IS a large sum but it's irrelevant, because nobody will ever receive any of the money ever. Because DotA tournament organisers are like that. Although I'm sure you know more about it than I do.

yeah theres been a few shady organisers but probably 90% or more of the tourneys get paid out

Yo Mount Maunganui here....
Is there any decent cash pub games round here???
My mate beat like 40 dudes and won a shirt or some shit....pfft

Yeah I suppose people will always complain and distort the reality. From the sounds of many blogs less than half of tourneys actually pay out the prizes they advertise. But whatever.

You going to XLan this year?

yeah i think so playing with a random nz team.

people just dont hear about ppl getting paid tourney winnings cos theres no reason to shout about it.

Yeah I expect so. Have never been before but I've got a few mates going, and it sounds like fun. Especially the free porn :O

Will be playing in the dota tourney too I think. I heard wind you're playing with Tekniqz, is that right?

yeah it is.

make sure u got lots of space on ur harddrive. i would normally avoid lans and things like that like the plague but if ur gonna shell out for the entry fee, at least get ur comp filled with movies etc.

im pretty shit at computer stuff but they hve a program called dc++ or something, and basically everyone just shares files so theres basically tv shows, movies, games, anything u need

I'm going to xlan and I'd help out with all the piracy but that might look bad.

Yeah a friend of mine was telling me about it. I bought a new computer about three weeks ago which I have about 900gb free on, so I should be able to leech up a storm.

Back to Citygolf related news, I played again there today. It's even fishier than I remember. Eventually busted with KK on the turn against 72s who decided to go broke with his OESD.

It's like all you hear about live play, but 100x worse. But I guess that's just pub-level poker for you.

Hey Gen

What is this City Golf tourney? All the live poker in Auckland is either at the casino or those horrible NPPL type formats (where the more you drink the more chips you get - brrrr).

nvm found it. :f_biggrin:

well if u lived in the south island ( yes there is an island below the north one :f_cool: ) .. specifically dunedin, there is a gaming lounge that has some poker tables..entirely separate to the local casino, and all u have to pay is so much $$/hour... blinds are standard at 0.25/0.5c and max limit on table of $500.
They also hold tourneys bi-weekly with ~%25 buy-ins, and it doubles as a netcafe.. seriously if ur down here swing by n give it a go!!!

theres a site up of it also (please edit if i am not allowed to post this link!!) :

So come to dunedin!!!
(ps i deal poker at the casino too, so come by n look out for me if you are around!)

peace!! :f_biggrin:

Yes there is! I've been there! Only it was closed... :f_p:

Alright, looks like there is a little surge in Kiwi's on the boards! Make 'em feel welcome. :f_biggrin:

BTW with the football world cup starting for us v Slovakia on (I think?) the 15th, how about some unnecessary slagging of the Slovakian team? eg Hah, there's no way they'll win... by more than 5 goals.... amatuers.

As an added bonus it will divert attention away from what promises to be a pretty grim international rugby season....

My "favourite" part is the exponential blind structure. I always seemed to get blinded out. I rarely had the opportunity to lose a big pot.

LOL - I didn't really know what to expect but I thought that it might be a bit closer to a proper tournament... after 3/4s of the players at my table effectively quintupled their stacks in an hour through promos and frequent player bonuses I was pretty much stuffed.

That combined with the fact the regs loved to gambool with any suited broadway to any bet made it a great excuse to forget the poker and just drink.

What up, homies?

Anyone gonna be at the Auckland Casino this Friday night? And, yes, I know it's likely someone will be there, me for instance, but I'm gonna be watching the Warriors in there and likely losing money playing some terrible pokah afterwards.

Hmm.. to all those hoards descending on Skycity tonight in hopes of managing a touch of my hem tonight, plans have changed. I'll be in there tomorrow night (Saturday) to add to the schools of fish hanging around the "Festival of Poker" (tm) hoping to luckbox my way to a first ever winning live night (live poker is so f'ing rigged).

It'd be awesome to see a fellow pokerstrategist, although, I'm just as happy to keep as marginal an edge (or alternatively, reduce the edge the field has against me) by not seeing any of you dudes there.

Take care, have an awesome weekend, and don't drink and post.
