Hey all,
Opinions please. I would like to get some reading material on this wonderful game and have been looking at one of these two highly recommended books. No option to get both at the mo so could you wonderful people give me your opinions as to which one you would suggest for a relative beginner?

HoH is more practical. However it is kinda outdated.
Sklansky's stuff is usually more theoretical (I haven't read this book in particular though)
Depends what you play btw, a lot of HoH1 is already incorporated into pokerstrategy's articles (which I would recommend reading all that you can...)
i can't stress how important it is to read both.
chenny is right, harrington is more practical, but you can't get to a decent standard without knowing the theory and psychology behind the game.
harrington 1 may be outdated, but by the time u have read that, and sklansky, you will be in a knowledgable enough frame of mind to make your own moves regardless of if you are playing turbo online or with the cowboys in the 40s!
its also important to read HOH 2&3, tho by that time you will have adopted your own style of play and will be able to filter the information out that you dont need.
It all depends on what level you are already at, if you are already competent, read sklansky first, then u can skim read HOH pretty quickly.
if you are pretty new, keep an open mind and read HOH first.

HOH is a definite purchase for beginners, it's a real easy read aswell, nothing too complex and if you follow it closely you will soon find yourself crushing the lower stakes but if you want to get much higher you will need to get more advanced books but also ones which suit your style of play.

Isn't holdem poker for advanced players a fixed limit book? (never actually read it so don't taunt me too much if that's wrong)
I am currently studying "No Limit Hold 'em: Theory And Practice" by Ed Miller, David Sklansky

But i would make sure to read "The Theory of Poker" by Sklansky first.
Then i'll probably move to HoH volumes.
Harrington on Hold'em is tournament play, his cash game books are called something else. Probably Harrington on Cash Games or similar

so its not worth getting HOH if i play cash then! cool

I am going to read next the Theorem of poker and The poker mindset, those sound interesting.
