every time when i go to nijmegen, i visite the statue of my great great great great great greatmother, marieke van nimwegen. its one of our oldest books in the netherlands, 16th century, the story of an innocent young maiden who goes to the town market and there she meets a nice looking man with whom she paints the whole town red. after 7 years (the women in our family are not that clever) she noticed that it is really the devil himself and she goes back to her family (not that innocent anymore hehe).
the statue is that of a fair maiden with a basket in her hands and i promise each time that if i win i will put some flowers into it. of course i never do but this time i will.

43 players freezeout tourney. 35+4 euro . starting chips 3000. 15 minutes blind intervals. starting blinds 25/25 hot hot hotter.

as i told u, every time i make a silent pray to the statue of marieke, well this time my girlfriend went along and u have to believe this, she was jealous. (my girlfriend, not marieke) i think it was because i kept my mouth shut for some minutes, something i seldom do). but it was not only marieke who helped me, also my lovely fiancee helped me with her presence.
as usual it started of great. i had volenteerd to be the designated dealer (great way to look at the mucked cards) and i was really into the game. concentrated, alert and steadily getting drunk of all the free drinks i got from the players (secondary labour conditions). i think it was in the fifth hand that i held AQs utg. i made a normal raise and only the BB called me. the flop gave (as usual 2 of my suit and a straight draw. BB checked the hand to me and i made a normal contibet which he called (the bugger). the turn did no good for me and again he checked to me. i fired my second barrel, i assumed he had something like top pair (T) . he min raised me (alarm bells !!!) and because i knew him as a very loose bettor i pushed my stack into the middle and expected him to fold. no way jose. he called me, and proudly showed a set. so i was down to 13 outs with one card to come. so that became the first time that i pictured lady L with a basket full of flowers. and woepieee the J came on the flop leaving me with 6000 in chippies and villian with a one way ticket to the bar (also buying me a beer for a won sidebet).

as a dealer u have the opportunity so see the players more closely and more direct as u have to keep your focus. it makes it easier to pick up tells. a firm push and then with a little louder then normal voice told me that mister X likes to protect his overpair with an allin. cant wait for my 2 pair against him. and you can look at mucked cards (which i of course never did) , just put the cards you want to peek at on the bottum of the deck and then re-shuffle as if you want to organize them in a neat stack. and as you have more eye for the game and not the girls at the rail, you pay attention to all the moves players make with different holecards (we come to that).

at the first table i made one mistake. with a reasonable hand in the SB i wanted to pick up the BB. i raised with KJs but did it a little to slow, because im a tight preflop player , i dont mind to throw a fair hand in the SB away when there are too many players in the pot. but this time it was checked to me and i almost threw my hand away, but then noticed that i could make a normal raise. villain noticed this and when a flop of AT7 came i made a normal contibet but then he pushed allin. i could not call for my gutshot and folded. he showed a raghand and told me that he had the impression that i was about to steal the pot. good read.

we all were reseated and i was moved to the table with eric as dealer and some BIG stacks. i think it was the second hand at this table when i hold JJ utg2. i betted and with 2 callers we went to the flop and that gave AKJ. autsj that one was dangerous. with a set i had to bet and was called by one player. the turn gave an other A and i had a boat. i betted and was raised allin by one of the shorter stacks who , offcourse had AKo. that one really hurt because i was now very very short. i think i had only 3,5 BB left (blinds being 3000/6000 with an 600 ante. on the BB i had 87o (wauw what a hand). the owner of the pub made a raise from utg and the hand was checked to me. what to do when a bird shits on you. i had 2,5 BB left. at this moment i didnt play my hand, i didnt play my position, i played the moment. at the first table i had seen him raise from utg with small pocket pairs. and this time i had a vision of 44. with a sad but determined face i called the raise and showed my 87o. he showed 66. and , of course I HIT THE 8 on the flop. mad, angry shouting he payed my chippies and i was now on 7 bb. (sr marcel but it was your tshirt that made me call , dont wear tshirts with the text " how can you call with that...? ".
again i received JJ in the hole and won the blinds and the antes. 10 bb.
the next hand i got AQo and with one limper in front of me i raised the pot 4 bb with the intention to steal. a good and solid player in the BB took some time to think about my move and asked what i had. silence. he asked again and said that he thought that we had the same hand and that it would be a split if he called. more silence from my side of the table. then he said that he thought that i had AJ and would go for the split pot. he moved all in and i quickly called with my AQ. and then ( i cannot blame eric for this) the flop came J62. bugger bugger bugger. a 73.5 against 26.5 chance preflop in favor of me to a 56 against 44 chance. huh ? i hear u thinking. that must be a mistake, that cannot be the odds. but yessssss the flop was one lovely family of hearts and i had the Ah. this time i was not praying to Lady L or my marieke. no sir , i was shouting and calling for looovvveee (of course my fiancee didnt hear me since she was talking at the bar with some guys who were looking into her clevage and buying her beers tsss). normally i am CCC cool calm and collected but this time i let myself go. yihaaa love rules the world and the river gave me the runner runner flush. villain was gutted, salted and pickled. as eric told me later in the camper, villain told him that he felt that a J would appear on the flop. eric replied : yep but u didnt wish that no hearts would show up.

final table. i came a little low at the table and the blinds would stay at 4000/8000 and antes of 800. the first hand played at this table was a massacre. 3 players got busted in one hand. AA KK QQ were dealt and i believe that AK won the hand. as 7 players would get money , i had already my buyin back and a profit of 5 euro for being a dealer. the table went into tight modus. a lot of hands were checked to the blinds and some little wars were fought between the blinds. i think i had a pacifist on my right hand site because he only completed the blind and he would fold after my atc push. on my left hand side i had saddam, jozef, pol pot, adolf or atilla, i dont know what his name was but he was aggressive with a capital A (hmmm the whole word in capitals, i mean he was AGGRESSIVE) . every move i made was answered by a push. and slowly i lost my chippies. i was down to 10 BB and had to go allin every decent hand to stay alive. luckely i managed to put my right hand side out of his misere. he got fed up with my allin pushes and called me with QJs , unlucky for him , at that moment i had my first good hand at that table. AK did the trick and we were down to 6 players. the aggressive player to my left was caught with his hand in the coockiejar and went out with a meager J6. in the next BB i had K9o and i wanted to do my little trick of pushing out of order. even before it was my turn i announced that i was allin but this time two players in front of me were also allin. since i already had declared that i was allin i had to play the hand. JJ versus TT versus my K9o. i felt like a fool. but then eric shouted through the pub: look alex, you have your favorite hand. and indeed , K9o has been a good hand for me when i played it in a tight spot. and for the last time that evening marieke helped me. the river gave the case K. TT was out and i was back to 30 BB.
well that was the story of this week. my 77 were busted by 98s and i was out in fourth place winning this months rent ( i have a very small rent to pay).

greetings from my fiancee and see u all next week.

have fun all and save your aggression for the tables. let love rule.

Fun reading as always :)

ty MMa7 , i appreciate positive feedback.

what to do with KK in the BB with 7 limpers? just make the normal standerd raise, 3 times bb and one for each limper. if u push allin, there is a change u only get called by a slowplaying AA or AK. so nothing fancie, just use your normall play.
i raised to 300 and got called by one player, flop gave AT2 and i made my contibet and UTG pushed his stack, i had to lay down my hand and he showed AK.

have fun all and play your best game.

I don't think someone would slowplay AA after so many limpers, except the UTG guy. Although that's not always true, I've seen some guys limping in middle/late positions with aces eventhough there were limpers in front of them and then just check/calling postflop. That was on cash tables though, so this might not be the case.

How deep in the tourney that was anyway? If it was early and you push, you're probably getting called only with high pairs (AA-QQ, even JJ maybe sometimes) and AK (not always, if he knows you're holding a pp and he doesn't want to gamble). Atleast that's my opinion.

If it was later in tournament you might get called with a wider range of hands. What were the stack sizes? Were you having a bigstacking and didn't want to get cripled against AA? And what was your table image, have you played reckless or have you been tight?

Pressuming it was somewhere in the middle of the tournament and that you played tight agressive style, if you push you're probably getting called with AA down to TT (or any PP if he's shortstacked) and AK, maybe some other hands as well. So you're a big favorite againts all except AA (obviously).

As for me, I'd probably have played it as you did.

holland casino Master Class qualifier Breda 60 players rebuy tournament E100+10

if seldom have seen a boy (i dont think he needed to shave yet) so eager to play.
fourth on the waiting list , he was standing at the rail and looked impatiently out onto the playersfield hoping that a player would bust out having spend all his rebuy money. AND THEY REBOUGHT. sick it was. i saw a man make 12 rebuys in 20 minutes. and he was not the only one. it reminded me of a story that daniel negreanu made so many rebuys one time that he had to come in second place just to get his money back (he won the tour offcourse). it was good for the prizepot. the more they rebought the more money would go into the pot and that is a Good Thing. but we didnt play for the money. we all played for the 3 seats that were awarded to play in the main event of the holland casino masterclass in scheveningen.
but back to bart.
after one hour of playing 3 players left the game and bart was now in first place to take a seat, but allready the last hand was dealt and everybody had the change to rebuy one more time and to make an add-on. it happend at my table that a FOOL (i dont have any other word for it) pushed his chips in the hope to double and noticed that he didnt had any money left to rebuy. joy o joy (for bart that is) , the man was removed and enter bart. gleaming and beaming he jumped over the rail and had his change to play. he got hold of 2000 chippies (no need to change sir, just give me 2 chips of 1000). as short stack on the table people pushed him around trying to steal every bet he made and every blind he posted. after half an hour he was down to 800 and needed to call a raise in front of him with K5s. his opponent had TT and bart was down to 2 chippies (no, sr for him, not his two 1000 chippies but one of 100 and 1 of ten). after posting the ante of 30 he had 80 left to make something like a feebel attempt to post the smallblind wich was 250 at that time. joy o joy he had K5s again and made a flush on the flop. and there came fiercefull bart, the dealer gave him not enough chips and it took 5 minutes to get it all correct. the players were laughing at him and said that he should surrender and leave the table. but noooo bart stayed and corrected the dealer again (fire the bugger) and got his right amount of chips. in the next BB he had to go allin again and again he won (4 opponents) with a lucky hand. in the sb he had to go allin again and he won AGAIN. slowly and even more slowly he came back and after my KK was crushed i left the table to play some roulette and to plunder the complementairy buffet.
one hour later eric told me that bart had made the final table and we went back inside the pokerroom to cheer for him (we had some j. walker green labels and we were in the mood for some fun). the players were still on a break and we talked to bart and told him we were his biggest fans. he laughed and told us that he was very nervous and as the smallstack he started the final table. we found a place behind him and started cheering and rooting (yo pinguin bring us some wipsky and a diet coke for bart). the master of ceremonies introduced the players and told the crowd that bart had come back from 110 chips to the final table. and the slaughter started. first one out was a man in a wheel chair , then a big big big man with a bigger bigger bigger belly (omg he must have drank a mercedes), then a very small boy who nobody had noticed , and then the last female player (applausse applausse , tsss why are titties so overrated). but who knocked them out???? yes it was our bart. a shark in disguise he was. picking up good hands and making good reads (u stopped rocking ur chair, u must have a hand , i fold ) the underdog was almost chipleader with one more guy to drop out. our bart was in the bigblind (he just phoned his mom that he would be a little later and if she would pls make him some sandwiches) when sb (and bigstack) made a push for all of his chippies. and true class showed that moment. bart called the hand after some long thinking and indeed, sb was on a steal and cursed the paint of the wall. bart had A8s and villian had 43o. an A on the flop and from BS (bullshit) bart was now the commanding BS (bigstack). he had won his seat in the mainevent. and do u think that was it?? nooooo he wanted to get first place and the trophy. it took almost an hour of play HU (and some more drinks, we were hammered) but after 6 hours of playing (for bart only 5) he got hold of the first price (and the necktie of the tournament director).
champagne, ballons, flowers and girls and a big cheque for bart. and for us? some more drinks and many many thanks from bart to us. he told everybody that he could not have done it without us and that we had cheered him to finish line. ty ty.

so children .. what have we learned today? that stubborness and determenation and a lot of good scotch can bring u a long way.

have fun all and dont drink to much (oi my head)

LOL Nice story!

Loved the story and a real testimony to the saying "a chip and a chair" (well two in this case ;) ). But its true, you can make it back and win. I know i have, i went from 50 chips in a sng today and ended up first!

i had some private troubles so i havent been around for a while, my son fell out of the window and was in hospital for a week, luckely he is better now and again on the streets making misschief.
it got me to thinking about live, the universe and the rest. the rest will be poker and carriere. what to do? what is my reason for living? all that crap. i stopped playing poker and smoking and started long distance running to clear my mind. as u maybe know im selfsupporting and dont have an official income, what i win with poker and make with my pupquizzes do pay the rent and some extras. it is not easy sometimes but i get by. i have to withdraw every month $400 from party so i had never the change to climb the limits. (but im a monster at NL10, tnx for ur money guys). BUT to make al least $400 a month i have to play a lot of hands, 9 to 12 tables and every suckout does hurt. when my son was in hospital and till 2 weeks later i havent played poker. which means no income. i had to withdraw all my money to pay the rent.
i found another site who gives bankrolls away for 4 different sites and ive been whoring them since. made about $1000 in the last 3 weeks and i will be playing at titan soon. BUT i will not withdraw money anymore. i got myself a silly job for 3 days in the week and that will be enough for 2 months to climb the limits (then i will probely get fired) . during my long runs i decided to keep playing poker and to be one of the best. with my fiance i agreed to play for 2 more years and if i do climb the limits and if i can live of this beatyfull game, i will keep playing.

nolimit freezeout E35+4, 46 players, 3000 chippies. blinds 25-25.

my first game since weeks. and i didnt want to. eric called me that he would pick me up but i told him that i was not up to it and that i didnt want to play. he told me that he was about to kick my (small but firm) ass and that he would be here at my place in half an hour , ready or not.
okeehee (eddy murphy voice in RAW). i was in a very relaxed mood and as we drove to (iieeekk, i really cant say the name of the place but i will try) nn nnijjjmmmeegggeeuuuuhhhnn, that ugly overrated town down the south of :heart:ARNHEM  ,we had a nice conversation in the van. talking about karma, religion, odds, feeling good, changes, self fulfilling prophecies and "stop whining, do u think u have it difficult? take a look at my son, he will die before he is 15 and is in an electric wheelchair and he just started to learn chineese. do u know how difficult that language is?".

a warm welcome was there for me in the pub where we would play. cheers and fresh coffee. live can be good. i was dealer again and the game started. i played a lot of hands from the start. i picked up a bunch of reasonable starting hands in good position. AJs AQo, 99, 87s , 65s, and one of the best hands KK. i managed to win some and i did my best not to lose some and just before the first break i had about 4500 chippies. the last hand before the break i had 88 and was in the BB. everybody folded to the SB and he pushed his 2800 chippies in the middle and said that he wanted to win the last hand before the break. he was offcourse on a steal and i didnt think it over and called. as i said , i was in a very relaxed mood and my reads that day were superb (if i may say so) . he showed 77 and slowly i turned the flop. the first card was a 7 and benny jumped in the air trying to kiss the ceiling. well he better kiss the floor because the second flopcard was an 8. and that is were we left benny, sobbing on the floor because the thirth turncard was another 8.
my KK hand was quite funny. i had KhKs and the flop gave A96 all diamonds. i had raised a bet from utg ( i was in CO) against a very tight player who only played premium hands and since he was UTG1 i had him on AA AKs or KK. because there was a A on the flop, i checked when he checked the flop to me, the turn gave on 8 and he bettet to little, i raised him and he just called. the river gave 7 diamond and he checked again. whit no diamonds i made a stong bet and he folded after a long time, showing AK but no diamonds. exactly what i had tought he would have.

and then the chipleader was placed at our table, we were down to 3 tables and a redhaired ox sat down. all muscle and no brain. a bit like ron weasley who had joined a gym. how he managed to get such a big stack i dont know , he ws a calling station optima forma. three times i doubled up against him. the most funny hand was when i raised AQo from the CO first in. he called and i heared him say to his neighbour that he had AQo. on a ragflop i pushed and HE CALLED. we both showed AQo and we laughed and talked about a splitpot but whooopppiieee i made a runner runner flush. man he was pissed and stood up and smashed his chair against the wall. tsss that is not cricket. he ws kindley removed from the table and is not welcome anymore.
the last hand before the second break i found myself utg with 65s and i just limped. utg2 made a bet wich was called by 3 players and i also called. flop gave me a open ended str8flush draw and i checked the hand. the original bettor made another bet and with 2 more players i called. i made my str8flush and offcourse (whahahaha) checked again. the first bettor checked and one of the other callers made a nice big bet . one fold and i called and utg2 also called. the turn gave an K and i bettet almost potsize. utg2 raised allin and the thirth player called (for 3/4 his stack) , i pushed and he called for the remaining of his chippies. utg2 showed the klansman (KKK) and the other a Ahigh flush. I WAS CHIPLEADER. ty ty ty.

untill the final table i was a little carddead but that didnt stopped me from being a bully (i am a taurus so it must be in my blood). picking up smallpots and bluffing at a few bigger pots i started as chipleader at the final table. the dealer at that table just busted so i was asked to deal at that table. np. i think it was the 5th or 6th hand that i picked up 66 and i called a small raise from one of the other biggies. ( he had about 3/4 of my stack). the flop gave T96 rainbow and he made his contibet. i had him on a very big pair and knew that he would bet the turn again. and indeed, after a deuce on the turn he bettet potsize and i pushed, he called without a pause and showed AA , i showed my number of the beast and the *#&$& river gave him an A. well he did said sr.
DONT EVER SAY SR AT A POKER TABLE. lol i never mean it when i say it.

i was crippeld and was trying to make it atleast ITM. the new chipleader now took over my roll as bully but he played it bad. pushing when there were 3 players in the hand, betting when there was a change to knock somebody out, calling every flop. (he was a virgo !! lol)
i was able to double again with 55 against AKo, and pushed an A9s in the CO in the hope to steal the blinds who were at 2500/5000 with an ante of 500. but to my horror SB raised and BB reraised. i was allready with all my chippies in the middle. SB called the reraises and showed KK. BB had QQ and i was about to leave the table. i swear i dont cheat but i flopped myself a flush. oengaboenga i tripled and ws now average. players were dropping as flies and with 4 players left and short we took a little break to wash our hands and for one player to powder his nose (dont do drugs!!!).
as we returned i cought a glimpse of eric who was playing a sidegame and he smiled with a reasuring face. then i knew i was about to win this game. i was short but calm. since i was dealing for more then 5 hours and (dont laugh) i had hurt my little pinky , i asked for a new dealer. i moved to another chair, orderd my first beer and started to pick up great hands. AK AQ JJ 99 , and they all hittet on the flop. exit BB (Bad Bully) who didnt deserve it to be here (he works at the soccerstadium of Never Ever Champion). down to 3 players and everybody was pushing or folding. in SB freddy just called for the bb and i checked my T9s. we were now playing a friendly game, lets see a flop. the flop was J93 and my friendly neighbour bettet 10000. i called. the turn gave a rag and we both checked, all nice and friendly. the river was a J and , lets be nice , SB bettet 10000 again. i called with my middle pair and won the hand with my Tkicker. no more mr nce guy. knives back on the table. i raised and pushed with every A and the chippies went around the table back and forward. freddy was out with 99 against TT and we were down to 2 players. my opponent was a really good player who made some nice laydowns but he had one problem. he was telling. i mean, there is a little vein in your neck wich pumps the blood to your brain. every time he had a good hand BUT NOT THE BEST HAND , this vein would pound like a vulcano. with that tell i could make some big steals with nothing and from that point on i started to show my bluffs. i stole with J2 a big pot and even with 72o,94o. K3, i took some chippies who were just dying to be picked up. the last hand was a nice one. i was in BB and he called with KJ in the hope i would try to bluff at him again. the flop gave KQ5 and he bettet pot. i called and the turn gave a 5 again. he bettet pot again and i called again. the river was a J and again he bettet wich i raised , he push and i called. he showed his 2 pair and slowly and smiling i showed my Q5.
strangly enough i wasnt that exited. offcourse i was happy that i won. but i know now that winning one game isnt all. more obstacles to come and climb. more games to be played and to learn from.

i just took the first step on a long road.

have fun all and just follow the yellow brick road.

do you know the game of preflop holdum? take a bunch of gamblers, preferebly drunk, let them pay 5 euro each and deal them 2 cards face up. and then flopperdeflop, give them their board. thats it. winner takes all. it is becomming a little tradition that we play preflop holdum before each tournament in nijmegen. well yesterday we had a top day. 15 players entered the game for 5 euro each. changes to win? 1 in 200 offcourse because this is real ATC. if u dont believe me, well thats ur bad luck, but i got hold of the beerhand twice. 72 the famous dutch hand. ( i really like to play this hand, winnings can be huge IF u flop it right). in the first game there was QQ, TT, suited connectors and real garbage out there. it says nothing , i'v seen AA KK QQ get beaten by all sorts of crap. and yesterday it was my hour. the board came A7722. thank u very much. new round please. and i could not believe my eyes, i got hold of 72 again. but this time they were soooooted. that didnt matter because the flop gave me 222. thank u very much. so i started of with a 140 euro winning. a great way to start a pokernight.

no limit freeze out 100+10 euro 34 players (to bad it was still ramadan) 3000 starting chips and all my luck was allready spend.

they accused me of playing bad poker.... me? im innocent, really.
it just happend that i was forced to go allin a lot of times. and yes it looked like i pushed all of my playable hands all the time. and to be honest , i did. but ... i can explain. i was sitting UTG and i had QQ. i decided to limp and wait for a raise, slowplay my hand preflop and push it on the flop when no A or K hit the board.there were a lot of over aggessive players on my left hand side. but ..shock ooo shock, almost every player limped. there were allready six players in the pot. blinds were at 200. so the pot was allready more then 1200 and then the BB raised with 1200. so what could i do? yup BULLLLDDOOOZZZZZEERRRR allin. everybody folded and even the BB layed his hand down and showed KK, thinking i had AA. GOOOD laydown sir. hehe. i didnt showed my QQ and took the pot. he asked me to rabbit (im the dealer) and on the flop he would have made a fullhouse, he got angry and there the foul words came , the first time anybody said that i play bad poker. hmmm i showed him my mucked cards and he went silent, the flop was KQQ.

some hands later i did had AA and after a raise and a rereraise i did pushed my hand. what can i do? nothing else, right? BULLLLDDOOOZZZZZZEERRR again. (have u all seen the WSOP main event and with that guy Khan, he moves like a combination of a maori warrior and a epilepticus, ive been waching him and i wished he would be hit by a bulldozer. check out how he gets corrected by Ed de Haas (dutch offcourse)

)
and then for hours nothing, we had a break twice and i went to the final table as the shorty. i had about 12 BB left. according to the strategy i had only one move left. yes i did pushed my hands often and yes it were all suckouts but they were all correct moves. in late position i pushed my JJ after 2 limpers and i did beat a KK with a straight, and i pushed my AK and i did beat TT, and when i was down to 9 BB (on the bubble, in the BB) i called 2 allins with JTs and made a flush. nothing wrong with these moves but maybe loosers are a bit more critical about someone else play.
my final hand is what i now call "a walking back to arnhem" , in the SB i had KQspades and i pushed after one limper. the BB and the limper called and i flopped a flush. yeaaaaa. but unfortunately a fourth spade came on the river making the limper with AKo a higher flush.
i cashed in the 5th place winnings and we went home, not walking but hitchhicking, we had a flat tire. somebody had stabbed all the tires at the parking place and our van had 4 flat tires. ty nijmegen, i knew it....

have fun all and dont forget to check this one http://www.pokertube.com/

Nice story, as always.

Hi boschman123!

Nice read! Maybe we'll meet there someday. My sister wants to go there with me. I'm still hesitating because I don't want to walk home or drive home with 4 flat tires ;)

Good luck at the tables!

put some teargas or pepper-spray in the tires along with the air. You'll only have 1 flat tire that way

haha i only get angry when donkeys call me (with trash) and win...

those moves were all really quite viable (and EXPECTED if you're the shortstack really), so getting angry is just :(.

anyway, more please~!
