So England is bigger than London you say?
I'm in Somerset at the moment, lived here most of my life. Did a year of uni in Cheltenham.
I'm having to move up to Gateshead though, so Wriggers, I might be up for some of that when I'm settled.
Hi!
Are there anybody from Brighton?
I am a 24 years old Hungarian Fix Limit HE player. I graduated some weeks ago and i am going to travel to Brighton, because I should develop my command of english and i would like to get some life experience before I start to work.
I have some friends from the Hungarian community and I would like to get to know some Pokerstrategy member from the UK as well. So if someone would like to drink a beer or speak about poker, please write an answer or a PM.
GL!
Hi coolbaasz, good to hear from you.
I'm only about an hour away, maybe slightly more, I currently live in Hampshire. I don't get down to Brighton that much, but if I do some day soon I'll certainly let you know and would be happy to meet up for a beer
Your English is very good btw ♠_thumbsup:
Best regards,
Bart
bart, does your name happen to come from the eagle star building in chelt? Only realised after you said you used to live there! Nice to see there's someone from my area, even if they've left now!
Hi Jim4rdo,
Yes you're right my friend. The first company I joined was Eagle Star Insurance, initially in Essex in 91 (showing my age, sigh) but I moved up to their head office (Bishops Cleeve) in 95. Was there until 2000 before moving down to Hampshire when we got taken over by Zurich Financial.
"Eagle Star" still provides me with many happy memories of friends, trips out etc, so it's a +ve EV nickname for me
And yes holnrew, the tower in Cheltenham (if this is the one you mean) is the ugliest building ever, couldn't agree more. Only went there twice for training sessions, Bishops Cleeve was much nicer though.
I still visit Cheltenham occasionally so if anyone wants a beer in JJ O'neils or the Whole Hog sometime? god I hope they're still there, happy times
Best regards,
Bart
Ah thought so
Yeah that building isn't exactly pretty.
Well there's an o'neils up in montpellier if that's the one you mean.
And if you do come this way i'll be happy to meet for a drink so give me a shout if so!
I lived near Cleeve for a couple of months, in Gotherington. Then I moved into the scruffiest house in Montpellier. On the same road as The Beehive.
I know where yeah
mate lives just off montpellier, can't remember the road name... maybe montpellier road or something heh.
Hi Lee,
Welcome, good to see you join our friendly community
Enjoy the banter and ofc your poker.
Best regards,
Bart

Sounds good ♠_cool: I'm in Newcastle now almost constantly until Christmas so we could head to Aspers some time
Hi!
My name is Dietmar and I'm a professional poker player from Austria (PLO). I will move to the UK in early April. My choices would be Manchester (City Centre or Salford Quays) or Liverpool (Citre Centre or Docks). I visited both cities in my last holidays, mainly Manchester. So the first challenge for me will be finding a nice appartement (should cost 500-650 pounds, but i would als take an ideal one for 700) in one of these areas. Because of the fact that UK estate agencies don't often reply to e-mails it would be great if you could give me some tips about this topic. I also off course appreciate any other general tips. Also does anbody have experience with gumtree/appartements?
I'm looking forward to your answers!
btw: if it is necessary I can give you my skype name if you want to talk about some things...
Hi Dietmar & welcome to the "Good ol' England" thread, good to hear from you
Sorry, I'm based at totally the other end of the country so don't have any local knowledge about Manchester/Liverpool, but I'm sure other members will help out shortly.
I do understand that there are some nice areas and some errr not so nice areas, so you're right to seek some local knowledge.
In terms of estate agents, it's probably best to check out their websites directly. You can either google for them or alternatively the following might be useful for you (they have many different agents shown):
Hope this helps. Good luck in your search and enjoy England
Best regards,
Bart

Hi Bart!
Yeah I already checked around 15 agents sites out which i found mainly throught www.rightmove.co.uk...but thanks for the other two links!
I guess I have to pay 6 month in advance, cause poker will be the only job I have.
I already have booked my flight to Manchester (77 Euro direct flight from Salzburg to Manchester). I also have a clue where I will stay in the first weeks of my journey (should be the Premier Inn in Old Traford which is 15 Minutes away from the city centre with the metrolink and very close to the Salford Quays)
Anway thank you for your nice welcome greetings!
Dietmar
I used to live in Manchester and my Auntie lived in Salford Quays for a few years.
I would recommend Salford Quays highly, it's a very nice area and the majority of it is very close to the Tramline so you will have very easy access to the City Centre.
