Kinda envy you right now. I just hope you are not drinking alone :)

Anyway, GL with your goals in the future.

Pokerwise: if you can beat NL 100 with decent bb/100 and suck at NL 200, why dont you make like 2 sessions playing NL 100 and then one playing NL 200 for some time? That may help you with mental issues(combining playing in the comfort zone and out of it). Later you can change ratio in 1:1 or switch completely to NL 200...

I had my thinking hat on today, and I came up with some stuff on this topic. Since this situation is also similar to my own (not atm but I suffer from the same problems sometimes), I will share my thoughts with you.

About the moving down things: I think what TLN said really makes alot of points, but I think one important fact is left out.

I mean, in poker, we all know (or should know) that it's a game where we if we want to make it far constantly need to adjust and learn and improve. We have to find ways to deal with things, rather then ways to aviod things.

I want, just like you, to move up in stakes. This means, we will keep playing poker for probably a long time, and this means we will also encounter many more 'downswings' in our days. My point is, that when we are in a tough spot, we need to learn how to deal with it, not how to aviod it. I mean yes, moving down can be good to regain some confidence and to limit our losses, but moving down as low as NL25 really will do us no good.

What happens next time we're gonna get owned by tilt and variance? We're gonna move down then too? No, this is not a long-term solution.

Maybe if we move down, we regain confidence and then we're able to play better on our own limits again. But what happens next time? Did we learn anything last time we had a downswing? No we didn't, we learned how to aviod it and that's it.

So I think, that the key in long-term dealing with these kind of situations, is to find a solution to the problem. We need to find ways, to make our mindset less weak, or in a better way, more strong. We need to learn to accept the fact that this will happen to us... over and over and over again. We need to learn to not get affected by it, and just accept it for what it is.

I know this sounds easier then it is, but I also know it's not impossible and I think it's about the only way to do it best.

What do you think? Would love some more discussion on how to solve it, rather then how NOT to solve it.

Hey,
Intresting post vonki. Last time, when i had downswing over 80k hands then i almost ended poker. This time i have been losing too long also, but i am not going to end. Yesterday i arrived from my trip and it did cost sth, so i cashed out 1.5k. Now i am rolled for nl50. Thx to this there is one problem less, RL money (-1 thing to worry about) Today and tomorrow i will start learning poker a lot and then i am going to play after 1 week.

I do not agree with this. At least with me, If I stop playing for a week, even if I study a lot, I swing out of the rythm of playing poker, and then have to take a couple of days to re-learn it. I say study and play.

I think pause were rly good for me, cause now i feel like human again . I have had a lot of 1 week+ pauses this year, cause of traveling (i think they dont affect my game at all). Today i have been sleeping most of the day, cause i am so wasted from that trip, what i had .

Hello, sir!

I've been following ur blog for a while without actually posting in here.
Well, your desire for moving up and crushing is rly insipiring for all readers, but must be really demotivating for you when not everything is going as expected.

I think, you should sit back, not put ursefl under pressure of when u have to move up.
Get comfortable at nl100 again, pwn the tables for some time, get ur confidence back.. and then start planning again.

Cheers and good luck!

GL - and remember, the most important thing is to be playing with a positive frame of mind. Theres no point playing nl100 or nl200 or higher if you don't have the confidence to play well. Whatever helps you to regain confidence is what you should be doing.

At the end of the day, you're trying to make $, not prove a point about your ability.
