The problem with optimal strategy is that you don't give yourself many opportunities to get above the EV line because you inevitably have the best hand the majority of the time. The times you do have the worst hand and manage to get lucky, you recoup 1BI, which doesn't compensate emotionally/psychologically for the 3/4 you lost in the session when guys sucked out on you. I guess this is just a consequence of having the best hand so often.
please post this on 2p2 so i can reply with something rude/witty/something-coaches-probably-shouldn't-say ;)/
in the meantime i will just say: that's not how ev works

Wow I re-read this and it doesn't make sense to me either. My point wasn't even supposed to be about EV. It was about the frequency with which a good player gets it in good resulting in an increased quantity of so called 'bad beats'. Some players struggle to deal with with the increased quantity of times where it seems like you're 'getting unlucky' compared to times where you 'get lucky'. I think this creates an illusion for many poker players that they are somehow inherantly unlucky when the reality is that they aren't losing a disproportionate number of times. I see this to be particularly true for live players.
I'll put it down to it being late and me being tired and having jsut read 5 pages of JB complaining about being below EV....
The temptation to troll 2+2 with my post is huge!
