The problem with optimal strategy is that you don't give yourself many opportunities to get above the EV line because you inevitably have the best hand the majority of the time.

The times you do have the worst hand and manage to get lucky, you recoup 1BI, which doesn't compensate emotionally/psychologically for the 3/4 you lost in the session when guys sucked out on you. I guess this is just a consequence of having the best hand so often.

please post this on 2p2 so i can reply with something rude/witty/something-coaches-probably-shouldn't-say ;)/

in the meantime i will just say: that's not how ev works ;)

Wow I re-read this and it doesn't make sense to me either. My point wasn't even supposed to be about EV. It was about the frequency with which a good player gets it in good resulting in an increased quantity of so called 'bad beats'. Some players struggle to deal with with the increased quantity of times where it seems like you're 'getting unlucky' compared to times where you 'get lucky'. I think this creates an illusion for many poker players that they are somehow inherantly unlucky when the reality is that they aren't losing a disproportionate number of times. I see this to be particularly true for live players.

I'll put it down to it being late and me being tired and having jsut read 5 pages of JB complaining about being below EV.... :f_p:

The temptation to troll 2+2 with my post is huge!

King Crimson?

Edit: I'm not entirely sure about this sugguestion hence the question mark, but some elements are certainly very heavy.

Never listened to any. A huge gap in my musical education. Post me a video.

Shame. I thought you two might have a big argument. I think we should do everything we can to stop chenny being such a nice guy, and help him to get in touch with his inner 'old git'. I think I have something to contribute in this regard.

Played a set of 10 whilst eating my sandwiches. Having made my big pitch to god, this is the response. I have now changed my name to Jesus Buddha Muhammed (so as to offend/not offend everyone equally) and will be praying in the direction of Las Vegas before every session.

No idea how to embed videos but heres the link.

Remember its prog rock so takes a while to get started, and has a jazz breakdown in the middle..... Try skipping to 3.40 to get a feel of heaviness.

Also, how could I argue with the all-knowing Chenny!?

Well, I bought What's the Story Morning Glory when it came out. I liked that. Then I bought Be Here Now, and thought it was a bit shit. Never listened to anything more. I struggle with the fact that Liam and Noel are such a pair of dog's nobs. Twas OK.

Just two. You can tell who they are 'cause they are the guys hanging out with a bunch of musicians.

Just finished my sweat with Sirilidion. Nice chap. Both of us ran like shit. He spotted one push on the bubble that I missed, but mostly we commiserated with each other about how bad everyone else plays (limp call with 64s on the bubble was a particular highlight) and how badly we run. Must do it again. I even managed to use SnGWiz and learn something from it. :f_thumbsup:

Was going to listen to King Crimson, but it'll have to wait, although I am looking forward to it.

Hi,
let me join the ranks of ppl posting here interesting music links. But now for something rly special...:))) This band is one of the best what Central Europe could offer. They are called Phoenix, guess ur (older) Roumanian readers will recognize them...:))) Enjoy!

BTW, "Serious discussion about time management for working dads" would make a rly interesting thread and would love to hear ur/other's opinions/experiences...

Progtastic pop pickers! Will try to listen to all this stuff soon, but can't really do it at work, and I have a chess match tonight. Opinions will follow. (King Crimson/Porcupine Tree Trivia: i) Gavin Harrison drums for both PT and KC, ii) Robert Fripp (and indeed Alex Lifeson from Rush) both played on PTs album Fear of a Blank Planet, iii) Steven Wilson (singer/guitarist/song writer/all round musical genius from PT) remixed In the Court of The Crimson King last year and everyone says it's a big improvement).

Tips on Time Management for Working Dads
--------------------------------------------------------
i) Don't watch TV (except for House)
ii) Don't read novels (terrible, but inevitable. Save them for holidays)
iii) Don't socialize much (also terrible but inevitable when living in the middle of nowhere with three kids. Reinvent social life by blogging).
iv) Don't stress out by trying to plan every minute of the day ('Daddy can you do drawing with me.' 'I'd love to but I've timetabled this slot to go through my hand histories and see whether I'm missing any profitable ATC pushes.' 'Waaaaaaaaaa!'.)
v) Just make sure you're always doing something constructive.

This part works for everyone, not only for working Dads. I actually want to set some goals and make a schedule for the rest of the year. Of course, I have to start with not wasting a lot of my day surfing the Internet for... uhm... NOTHING! Time is too much of a valuable resource :f_cool:.

It just gives me pure eargasm when they mash the two sections together @5:40, I still can't get my head around the timing of it but no kidding, it rocks. Hard.

EDIT - If you have a subscription to any mp3 sites (I've seen it on napster and emusic) I would seriously recommend "Dreams Wide Awake" by National Health. It's on the album Of Queues And Cures, the rest of which is pretty poor IMO but this track rocks like a beast.

I like it a lot jb, with the exceptions that I don't watch house and never read novels anyway. I DO make efforts to socialize more but it never quite materialises. The last 2 are soooo spot on though ;)

Well, if you're going to start me on 'rocking hard', you can't beat Opeth. Death metal + Swedish folk + jazz. More changes of gear than my mother approaching a roundabout. Hairy, sweaty Swedes ftw! I just wish I was young and smelly enough to see them live, but I think it would probably finish me off. :f_ugly:
