Hi all.

I think that Elephant could vacuum & reindex DB after update because it really shortens import time at Elephant startup.
Just look at the screenshot:

1) Import duration in new DB
2) Import duration at second Elephant startup
3) Import duration after vacuum & reindex DB.

I'll forward this thread to my colleagues - as always :)

Hi Stanisluv,

we'll have to verify these results, but nevertheless an automatic DB maintenance task right before the AutoUpdateImport seems to be a pretty good idea anyway, I'll set it onto the agenda...

Cheers,
L

Stanisluv? It seems that you haven't deleted the Database before you reimported the files again?
Duplicates will be identified and handled before an import task takes place...
You have to reset your database and import the very same data again to get a valid and comparable value for the whole import duration.

Cheers,
L

Ok. I try to explain what I did step by step:
1) I purge DB.
2) Import all files in DB.(1)
3) Close Elephant
4) Start Elephant & look at import time(2)
5) Close Elephant
6) Go to Start\All programs\PostgreSQL 8.3\pgAdmin 8.3
7) Connect to server.
8) Vacuum & Reindex current DB(For more details look at the sreenshot)

Spoiler

9) Start Elephant & look at import time again (3)

Thanks for clarification, we think about adding maintenace tasks like Vaccum and Reindex to Elephant's automated update import.

Thx,
L

We've added this feature into our product backlog and will improve the Elephant with it later on.

Thx,
L
